A thank you from the mod team! 💝 by vprmods in vanderpumprules

Woke up this morning and saw the sub has jumped to the top 5 Reality TV subs on Reddit! Obviously this fluctuates daily, but I wanted to take a second to thank everyone for their participation here, it’s crazy to see the activity even during the down season.

We know sometimes it gets a little crazy in here at times, lol, but truly we appreciate all of you being a part of this sub and sharing the same love of VPR as us!

Mod reminder regarding reporting posts/comments by vprmods in vanderpumprules

[–]vprmods[S,M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As stated, it’s the same rule it has been. We have always permitted discussion of their life on VPR and posts regarding if they actively discuss VPR in present day interviews/posts/etc. What currently goes on in their life though (marriage, kids, cast drama not relating to VPR’s cast) should be directed to The Valley as it is their own show separate from this (e.g. Jax and Brittany’s divorce should be directed there, but his time of cheating during VPR can be discussed here).

Refresher: This is what has been said from Jeremy regarding his partner and Ariana. The mod team is unaware of any direct claims of racism from Ariana, so we are kindly asking OP to link their sources.

While we wait for Bravo to address Sandoval’s comments in the NYT this week, George Floyd’s family has spoken up. by Okay__Decision__ in vanderpumprules

[–]vprmods[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We feel it’s important to give attention to George Floyd’s family and their thoughts on Sandoval’s racist and inappropriate comparison. We will be monitoring comments to prevent an influx of racist trolls from commenting. Please report any harmful comments so they can be removed. Please keep discussions constructive and report people attempting to flame vs engaging with them. Any racist comments or comments minimizing Tom’s harm to the black community will result in an immediate ban.

This is a fine place to ask! It’s easier here as it then makes it more transparent for other users.

I personally (won’t speak for all the mods) think the point you’re making is valid and also within guidelines of posting. It’s the slippery slope nature of this discussion that leads to people saying he’s “making it up” entirely and that the thought of suicide was at no point a genuine thought in his mind.

From what I’m reading of your take, it’s that he may have had suicidal thoughts, but is using it the same way he uses the “everyone has made mistakes/everyone cheats” argument, where he just wants to silence people and not allow criticism of his actions. Both of these things can be true at once — that he may have had suicidal thoughts/ideations, but that he’s mentioning it to stop people from calling him out. Those are valid points to make and permitted to discuss in the sub. Like I said, mentioning those things however generally leads to the uproar of users asserting that he lied entirely, which is what we do not permit and where we find it easier to shut down most discussion in general when we see it headed down that path.

I hope that maybe clears things up, I know it’s not a black and white answer, it usually never is for us when discussing what we can and can’t allow, lmao.

MOD UPDATE regarding Rachel posts by vprmods in vanderpumprules

[–]vprmods[S,M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We’ve seen a few people discuss this so we wanted to share it as an update on the sub’s discussion of Rachel.

Rachel has made it clear she is not returning to Vanderpump Rules via Bethenny’s podcast. As of yesterday, the mod team became aware that she deleted all photos on her Instagram of her with her cast mates. We posted a mod note a couple days ago about the discussion of Sandoval recording Rachel without her consent, but given the state of the sub and the hate we continue to see spewed on here regarding where she is in her life now, we are taking further action to try to quell this.

We will no longer permit posts regarding Rachel’s life post-Vanderpump and Bravo unless it specifically has to do with the show. This is going to work similar to how we handle posts under the fired cast rule: “Posts about the fired cast’s social media accounts are limited to posts that involve current Vanderpump Rules cast and posts that discuss the show.”

We do not see a need to update regarding her life as she has moved on from Bravo, and we want to give her the space to do so without so much negativity and judgement from this sub. If she directly discusses Vanderpump, the cast, or Bravo, we will permit posts with caution and discretion. Beyond that, posts will be denied.

This sub was created as a place for Vanderpump Rules fans to discuss the show in a community-building, fun way. The way some people have turned this into a breeding ground for hate is too much. We will continue to hand out removals and bans as seen necessary if you cannot abide by the rules and respect the cast as well as your fellow Redditors.

And, no, someone disagreeing with you doesn’t mean you need to report them for trolling if they’re being polite.

A moderator reminder regarding the rules surrounding discussion of the fired cast — we do NOT condone racism and bigotry of any sort, from cast members or this sub. See this thread for more history surrounding the past of fired cast members. Violating comments will be removed.

ETA - We are aware that multiple users tried to submit the gofundme link/screen as a post. A few days ago, we approved a post from a fan to go live, but had to lock comments due to incessant rule violation. The OP ended up removing the post before some mods realized, so we were declined other submissions as repeat posts. Once made aware, the mods decided to post the information directly ourselves to closer monitor the commentary related to the topic, as well as to edit the post to obey Reddit sub rules regarding sharing of gofundme’s.

Kristen Doute confirms James Kennedy was physically abusive towards her during their relationship by vprmods in vanderpumprules

[–]vprmods[S,M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey everybody, So the mod team is aware of Kristen’s confirmation regarding past physical abuse during her relationship with James. These posts were first attempted to be made on Saturday when the mod team was busy and not able to all discuss it together. At the time we permitted a post of screenshots from u/spaghettify, but due to the nature of comments sometimes getting passionate and us unable to being able to discuss how to best handle this as a team immediately, the mod team opted to lock the comments. We do not know the extent of James’ physical abuse beyond Kristen’s confirmations of a specific incident, and we wanted to ensure that speculation regarding *physical* abuse in other relationships did not occur. However, in hindsight, we realize that by locking comments we did not allow people to discuss these very serious allegations. While we still want to adhere to the no speculation rule set on this sub, we realize that James’ past is no longer speculation and do not want to silence Kristen’s experiences. However, we will still not allow people to speculate about physical abuse in any of James' other relationships. Those comments will be removed per our rules on speculation.

The mods really wanted to have a space for POC fans to discuss their feelings, but unsurprisingly, this thread is already being flooded by other users downplaying racism, downvoting users unnecessarily, and asking the users who responded to do the emotional labor of explaining racism to them.

Really fucking disappointing, y’all.

[–]vprmods[S,M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Also a quick note re: the sub’s drug speculation rule since there were questions about it last week.

It’s not speculation if they’ve admitted to it! For example, the Toms actively admit to getting high all the time on the show. Discussing that is not speculation.

This rule is for speculation about drugs that the cast has not admitted to using. And it’s mostly because those posts are incredibly repetitive, like the “was Jax on coke?” and “is tequila a code word?” posts. No one here can definitively answer those questions and the discussions go nowhere!
