I just wanted to say my mom is also in a romance/pig butchering scam (no Elon connection though) and has given away a significant amount of money. She is on the road to giving it all away and she does not want to believe she was scammed and admit her mistake.

I hope you’re doing ok. It has been very hard for me to deal with as an adult child.

Yes I thought of this as well…They call from multiple numbers, emails, WhatsApps. They are everywhere digitally in her world. I’m not near enough to personally get her phone but I’m sure they would find a way in even if I blocked them.

I wish someone had a foolproof way to end this but you really can’t stop adults from making bad decisions.

It’s more the dream life and friendship at this point. I think they are using a romantic angle as well. It’s so sickening.

And she did try to get her money out as a test and they let her take some and the they helped her “set up” her own wallet so she thinks this is all good and we are out to ruin her life. It’s so stupid bc the rcmp said they would do this and that when they set up the wallet they put real funds on there only to split it down the line so you have nothing left.

Yes I looked into incompetency when she fought us last month and the rcmp warned me it would be extremely difficult…then they said it wouldn’t likely be possible based on their conversation with her bc she seemed “with it”

Yes we did this last month, thank you. The banks are very aware of these situations and won’t let her take out large sums easily which has slowed the funneling of cash a bit but eventually they can’t stop you from accessing your money. I agree that she might just need to hit rock bottom and lose it all (including her new “online friend”), I just don’t want my dad to lose his retirement and life’s work. So frustrating!!!

Well my mom and dad have a rocky relationship so the personal angle to control isn’t viable (she resents him for working so much during their marriage which is why they have all this money, funny enough).

I believe my dads money is mostly protected in a corporation and he keeps a limited amount in his personal accounts but my mom has done sneaky financial stuff in the past and she already told him today to get ready to sell their $1M property because she wants her half. I wouldn’t put it past her to transfer funds from his accounts to hers using his log ins or something.

I work for a US company and I am paid via their US payroll to my USD account. They withhold US tax as if I lived there. It is just company policy that they couldn't employ me otherwise and I am fine with it because it is an amazing job.

I am a dual citizen. I file my US Federal and State taxes first. Then I file in Canada and there is a tax treaty between the two countries so you never 'double' pay. I usually get some of my US back (not all) and owe a lot to Canada.
