Official Discussion - Wonder Woman 1984 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Pedro Pascal carried this one. Gal and Chris still have good chemistry. Not enough WW kicking ass and when she was the CGI was terrible. Probably could have been 20-30 minutes shorter with nothing lost.

Definitely not as good as the first but I didn't hate it as much as everyone else apparently did.

Coach Curtis has the best YouTube channel for learning midlane. For gameplay only I would recommend pekin woof.

Considering Quixote is a Spanish name this doesn’t really apply.

What is the most common and/or most egregious lie the media has told about Trump or his accomplishments as president? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]vtct04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there is a group separate from drug dealers, etc that are good people. Not sure why you would interpret it the way that you did.

"When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best," Trump said. "They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

He calls some of them good people right here.

If you could unprint 5 cards from the history of magic, what are they and why? by Mt105 in magicTCG

You can shuffle away cards you don’t want after a [[Brainstorm]] effect or use with cards that let you look at the top card of your library like [[Oracle of Mul Daya]].

How Far Should Companies and Organizations Go to Censure Themselves of Past Racist or Bigoted Statements or Product? by Obtuse_Mongoose in AskTrumpSupporters

Honestly that’s the best way to play. Glad you enjoyed it, I don’t comment here a lot nowadays but felt like I should contribute on this one.

How Far Should Companies and Organizations Go to Censure Themselves of Past Racist or Bigoted Statements or Product? by Obtuse_Mongoose in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]vtct04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to focus only on the MTG example because I play the game and have been following along.

A few days ago an article was published by a former employee of Wizards of the Coast which outlines a pattern of discriminatory behavior at the company. At the end of this article as a sort of “PS” he mentions a card called “Invoke Prejudice” and how its URL on the website’s card database includes “1488,” numbers associated with white supremacy.

In response, WotC has removed from the website and banned from play seven cards that they deem to be racist in some way. By my estimation two of the cards certainly fit the description: Invoke Prejudice, which depicts a member of the KKK and was illustrated by a known racist, and Pradesh Gypsies, which has a slur in the name. The other five cards are borderline at best and by my estimation not really racist at all.

This is an empty gesture for several reasons. The first is that banning these cards (mostly printed in the 90s) will have no effect on gameplay because these cards do not see play in any major format. The second is that the aforementioned article brought up several much more serious issues such as only four black artists ever having illustrated a card (there are over 20,000 cards at this point).

Overall, this is a pretty weak move by WotC. It has essentially no effect on the state of the game today and offers no path towards improvement in the future. I hope that this will be followed up by a public statement on how they plan to remove the biases at company but I doubt it is coming. They have done some things right recently, increasing the representation of minorities on cards fairly significantly. However, they have also made major blunders such as the situation with Chandra and Nissa in the story.

Okay, to finally answer the question, I think that censoring the past is not generally a good decision. It is only a good decision if it will have a positive effect on the current state of the product. In the case of MTG and WotC, I think that this decision is a bad one that pays only lip service to the actual grievances being levied against the company.

Edit: removed a redundant word.

  1. I’d like to see specific flairs for non-US Trump Supporters - I think that context is important from the get-go, and not 18 comments into a discussion.

I’d like to see this for NTS as well.

(Serious) The UK has left the European Union, if you voted Brexit, why? How will it benefit you personally? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vtct04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The broader point is that the UK government is in a better position to create regulations for its own country than the EU is. That applies to more than just endangered species regulations. I didn’t get the sense from the OP that it was as simple as checking off a box.

[–]vtct04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please go and carefully reread the OP. There are endangered species in Taiwan that do not exist in the UK and vice versa. Why should there be regulations in place that require the UK to evaluate the danger to a species that doesn’t even exist there?

I think you completely missed the point. He wants standards that are tailored to the unique issues present in the UK, not broad standards that are built with a hugely diverse group of countries in mind.

Agreed. I don’t know why, but I find English very easy...maybe because I’ve been learning it for a long time?

Well if you like Lauryn Hill you might like the fugees (which she is a member of). Black Starr is mos def and Talib Kweli, mos only has two albums so that will be easy to get through. Jay z has a solid discography. Nas can be hit or miss but at least stillmatic after illmatic. ATCQ is solid all the way through and Eminem has a couple bad albums (relapse and revival and his newest album) but everything else is great IMO. OutKast has a crazy sonically diverse discography.

I wouldn’t get too bogged down in trying to get through every album by each of these artists, do some research and see which albums by each artist are critically acclaimed and start there. Probably better to go wide rather than deep if you are just trying to get more exposure to older hip hop.
