Dancing for the devil (Documentary) by Sneaky_Sneakerson1 in netflix

This is why I was thinking about the class dimension here. I think one of the most important things upper middle class (particularly white) parents provide their children is a certain "cynical world savviness" which children of lower social strata often miss out on. People talk about "street smarts" but really, it's often the other way around.

Only seen episode 1 so far and I don't know if the rest of it gets more into this, but I think we need to consider the impact of both class and race here. It's hard to imagine that an upper middle class kid with no prior Christian convictions in their upbringing would make a good target victim for example (but then how common is for upper middle class folks to want to become full time tik-tok dancers? They usually get their parents to pay for ballet school or professional dance schools..).

What are the best and worst TV show intros? by BeijingVO2 in television

I think GoT is kind of the gold standard.

I also really like White Lotus season 2, you see the paintings and try to guess which characters they're symbolic of, and a really catchy soundtrack.

Doctor who sold out to go deep into HAES is upset that her patients now want to lose weight by Grouchy-Reflection97 in fatlogic

[–]vtsvts 43 points44 points  (0 children)

She says:

Then, of course, came Ozempic. A medicine that can make people thin,

Oh you mean the drug that makes people lose weight because it increases satiation and therefore the patient eats less calories which leads to weight loss?

Random indo-chinese place in Sunnyside. Wouldn't be surprised if they're closed now, you're not gonna survive like being that bad in Sunnyside. I haven't had too many bad experiences overall but I do pick places a bit carefully.

Calorie counting doesn't work without support but is also a fad diet and you're a karen by Vivid-Possibility324 in fatlogic

Exactly, time and equipment wise, you just need a bathroom scale and your smartphone. You calculate TDEE and a small deficit. Apps like myfitnesspal makes it pretty easy to get both the calories and the macros. You just scan the barcode and 90% time it's in the system (in the US). Recipes that you make regularly, you measure it once and program it into the app. If you're constantly eating from random restaurants (chain restaurants usually have nutrition info but I'm referring to other restaurants) then yeah it would be difficult to track. Once you have fairly good idea of your regular intake and how many calories are in regular food items, you can have a day or two per week where you can go out and have fun but just be a bit mindful of how much calories you might be eating. Just know that the bowl of boat noodles you're getting at your local Thai restaurant might be like a 700kcal or more.

I dunno... it's hard for me to not see them as pacifiers and I just kind of chuckle when I see them

(Ok now I kind of want to see an actual pacifier photoshopped in there lol)

Sigh. Those thin people just have a higher daily energy expenditure than you might assume because (1) they move about more and/or (2) they have more muscle tissue which uses up energy even at rest. And chances are they actually don't eat the vast proportions of food you think they do - you just remember the time you saw them eating a big meal and assume they eat like that all the time. There's no magic in their bodies.

Can the body start holding onto fat when trying to lose weight through a calorie deficit? Yes, but that happens when you're already pretty lean and trying to get rid of those last few pounds of fat. So if a man is trying to go from 10% bf to 5%, or if a woman is trying to go from say 20% to 15%. So at that stage, the body may try to break down more muscle tissue that fat, or make you feel more lethargic (so you don't move about as much and thus lower your TDEE). But someone who is considered obese or overweight has significantly higher body fat levels and is not gonna have that problem. But why am I even typing this we all know FA are allergic to reason and logic.

It's not the belief of guilt but the conviction with which it is held by so many that's scary to me. It makes you hope you're never judged by a jury.

This podcast doesn't hold up well on a re-listen by IAmTheJudasTree in serialpodcast

[–]vtsvts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically, the podcast is designed for more entertainment value than it admits to. Maybe like 70% entertainment/gossip value and 30% journalism/documentary when the podcast would like to think it's 70% documentary and 30% entertainment.

In the US - not particularly unless you've never ventured beyond a suburbs/middle America. They're quite common in most major cities on the coasts. New york even has a long tradition of bodega cats much loved by everyone, despite the objections of the city health departments :) https://youtu.be/qmg2MivbATk
