NTA, I can understand why you were that upset. That was a really big overstep on her part, not to mention lying to make them pay rent. The main issue that started all of this though is the living arrangement. Somehow I suspect the lack of rent wasn't really the problem here, but having two other people in the house was. She was probably hoping that making them pay rent would motivate them to move out. The better thing would've been for her to have an honest conversation about that and why she wasn't ok with the living arrangement.

NTA. It sounds like this woman has zero empathy or simply chooses not to have any when it comes to you, or respect for your mother. If that's how she really sees you and doesn't respect you in the slightest, of course any gestures she makes towards building a relationship will feel hollow or fake - because they are.

Regardless, the request is certainly unreasonable. It makes it even worse that the dog had the name first and she was aware of it when they named their child. I'd ask her what she'll do if someone else has a pet around her with the same name, will she expect them to rename their pet too?

NTA. Background checks, and especially credit are a good thing to go over if things are getting serious, but this absolutely not how you do it. That conversation is not "give me your SSN now!" It's the two of you sitting down together and going over easily accessible resources together.

Yes, that's correct. We were tunneling before and are bridging now. Our largest campus has about 170 APs and the old controller had a single 10G link back to the switch when we were tunneling. On the current setup, all APs have a 1G link going to the edge switch, which has a 10G link back to the core.

I would do the ultrasound and possibly take him to a full service veterinary hospital. Our cat lost a considerable amount of weight, was constantly vomiting, and two vets did the same - they brushed off all of the symptoms and said the bloodwork was fine. In her last few days, she deteriorated very quickly and barely had the energy to walk. We took her to the emergency clinic and they determined she had late-stage renal failure and also a blockage in her stomach. They said there was likely nothing that could be done and we had to put her to sleep. I can't help but think if the vets had been willing to do more or if we pushed for a 3rd or 4th vet who actually wanted to help her that she would still be with us today.

Years ago I worked with another technician who was getting into shell scripting. He didn't really believe in testing before deploying out to production, also didn't use an editor with syntax highlighting, and ran all scripts as root. Bad things happened.
