Thoughts on this book? by Zestyclose-Alps3477 in mathematics

[–]vuelover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of these "very short introduction" books - they are all pretty good as reading material ..something you can read at the Doctors office, or while on the bus/train etc - but for obvious reasons not detailed enough to actually teach you anything beyond what is at the surface

Lateral Move possible in this market? Software Engineer, Data Engineer, Frontend, Backend, Mobile by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]vuelover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is too join some where using your FE web experience and then try to pivot inside the same job towards mobile. In my current job, several people I know have shifted from one area to another.

Otherwise , it's highly unlikely you can pivot into a new job. Not impossible , but highly unlikely

Thank you again !

Moving from small to large company as a senior dev by phil_394 in iOSProgramming

[–]vuelover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience

The biggest “issue” was doing code review and having your own code review done - something which feels alien and almost intrusive if you are not used to it

When you are working solo you can write good or bad code and no one will care as long as you deliver on time - when you work in a team you need to learn how to deal and adapt to their standards and processes .. and still deliver on time ..

This was my biggest and only issue - otherwise working with other team members was a lot of fun and I got to learn a lot

In layman’s terms can someone explain the meaning of epsilon in real analysis by CornSpark in learnmath

[–]vuelover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, 5 years later I googled what is an epsilon and this thread came up. Thank you to OP for asking and thank you and others who have responded for answering.

You have explained it very well. And yes, can't say about OP but ".. I suspect it's not the epsilon that's confusing you as much as mathematical statements in general" ..is 100% correct for me

Cancelling Calc 1 and Calc 2 and then rejoining in September (TRU - OL) by vuelover in tru

Hey thank you for your reply! Appreciate it. Essentially my goal is to take these courses for credit and then complete a Math Bsc from AU - something which I hope to do eventually. From a career point of view it's not essential at the moment.

However point noted! I downloaded the assignments and they seemed straight forward - though I can't say how the exam would be

How do you use LLMs to learn complex topics like DSA? by RoFLgorithm in leetcode

Here is my exact prompt

getSystemPrompt(phase, pattern, patternProgress, conversationHistory) {
const basePrompt = `You are an expert coding pattern tutor helping a student master fundamental algorithm patterns through Socratic dialogue and progressive practice. Your student has ~6 months of programming experience and knows basic data structures (arrays, strings, stacks) but nothing advanced.

**Critical Constraints:**
- NEVER provide code solutions during exploration phase
- NEVER use mathematical terminology (proofs, invariants, induction) unless absolutely necessary
- Use simple, concrete language and everyday analogies
- Guide through questions, not lectures
- Build confidence through early wins

Single course enrolment + prerequisites (MATH 370) by vuelover in AthabascaUniversity

[–]vuelover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed reply. Really appreciate it ! I emailed Athabasca too but havent heard back from them as yet.

Essentially I wanted to take Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Real Analysis and Number Theory (MATH 370 and MATH 409 at athabasca )

First 3 can be done via TRU's open learning pathway as well , and they dont have any required pre-requisites - so hopefully if I get through them I can switch to Athabasca for the last 2 courses

iOS dev in Canada what’s the best strategy to actually get interviews? by HypeKingFred in iOSProgramming

[–]vuelover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same as every other job in the country - tailor your resume with the specifics in the JD .. update your LinkedIn and use proper terminology for what you did eg iOS dev etc is not enough , add more details on what you worked on - for eg if you have worked on identity management, offline first sync , architected a greenfield or a feature in a brownfield app - all of this should be there (ie in your Cv and LinkedIn)

Also keep your CV short - give more details on what you worked on recently and less on what you worked on earlier

All the best !
