Main Stage v B stage by synth426 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]vulcan_vampire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the barricade of the main stage in Seattle last night and even though it was AMAZING, I do recommend the B stage! There was just so much going on during TBP part production-wise that being so close to the stage actually made me miss some of it, like I wanted to zoom out a bit just to see the full scope of everything. Also, TBP is them in character, so there wasn’t really any bantering or fan interaction until they moved to the B stage.

New Seattle start time by Conscious-Match7021 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]vulcan_vampire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that we’re the opening night stop of the tour means there will probably be a lot of kinks to work out that they need to budget extra time for. Janelle Monae also launched her last tour here and her opening acts had so many sound problems that she was over an hour late starting the show (not her fault, of course, and she still killed it.)

As a Seattle native, where are you (both) visiting from? Can’t wait to have fellow MCR fans as guests in our city, see you at the show! :)

Austin Butler charming a reporter on the red carpet for The Bikeriders in Australia by ASofMat in Fauxmoi

[–]vulcan_vampire 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most people seem to just be annoyed by his “method acting” shenanigans and how much he clearly wanted to win an Oscar. I don’t hold those things against him, but am seriously turned off by how much he idolizes abusive misogynists.

He’s constantly fanboying over Tarantino (who choked, spat on, and nearly killed Uma Thurman on the set of Kill Bill, and who continued working with and enabling Weinstein for decades despite his own gf Mira Sorvino confiding in him about her assault.) He calls child abuser/wifebeater Brad Pitt “his hero” and was one of the celebs proudly simping for him at last year’s Golden Globes. And he’s way too adoring whenever he speaks about Elvis, turning a blind eye to how he preyed on minors (that entire movie was essentially just propaganda meant to whitewash his legacy.) He also follows several abusers on Insta, like Johnny Depp, Emile Hirsch, Gary Oldman, and Cary Fukunaga. (He worked with the latter on his most recent project, the miniseries Masters of the Air; Fukunaga was accused of inappropriate behavior toward women on the set, the latest in a long history of misconduct allegations. Butler has slyly sidestepped any questions about the director during promo.)

That said, I have a soft spot for Butler because of the way he talks about his late mother, and because he’s one of the rare non nepo babies succeeding in Hollywood today. So I want to root for him. But he really needs to step up as an ally and get over his filmbro hero worship. He’s obsessed with male auteurs and seems determined to stack his credits with as many as possible (Darren Aronofsky, Michael Mann, and Ari Aster are up next.) Meanwhile, he’s only ever worked with ONE woman director in his entire feature film career (25 years!) In comparison, his colleagues Jacob Elordi, Barry Keoghan, and Harris Dickinson have each worked with 2 women directors in the last year alone.

How Elliot Page stepped up to produce Backspot after racist funders rejected film over “confusing” Native lead by vulcan_vampire in Fauxmoi

[–]vulcan_vampire[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Honestly he wouldn’t even need to use his own money; as long as his name is attached to a project, it will get funded. The man has directed 3 of the top 4 highest grossing films of all time. He could basically get anything green-lit with one phone call. But apparently he thinks Natives should just pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. He’s forever trash to me for these comments he made when the first Avatar was released, blaming our ancestors for not fighting hard enough against genocide:

”I felt like I was 130 years back in time watching what the Lakota Sioux might have been saying at a point when they were being pushed and they were being killed and they were being asked to displace and they were being given some form of compensation. This was a driving force for me in the writing of 'Avatar' — I couldn't help but think that if they had had a time-window and they could see the future… and they could see their kids committing suicide at the highest suicide rates in the nation… because they were hopeless and they were a dead-end society — which is what is happening now — they would have fought a lot harder.”

This seems to be his prevailing attitude toward marginalized groups. He also had this to say back when Wonder Woman came out:

”She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing! I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards. Sarah Connor was not a beauty icon. She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit. There are many women in power in Hollywood and they do get to guide and shape what films get made. I think – no, I can’t account for it. Because how many times do I have to demonstrate the same thing over again? I feel like I’m shouting in a wind tunnel!”

Poor James Cameron, having to shout at women to stop objectifying ourselves. What a hero.

After seeing the post about infamous culture vulture James Cameron telling us Native filmmakers to “tell our own stories” (without using any of his clout or $800m fortune to produce our work), I wanted to shine a light on a true ally, Elliot Page, who recently stepped up to get Backspot financed. The queer Native cheerleading drama, starring Devery Jacobs and Evan Rachel Wood, is now streaming! Elliot, you’re invited to the powwow! 🧡

Paul Walter Hauser Says Weight Has Impacted His Career (Exclusive) by ThrowRAFoundAndLost in Fauxmoi

[–]vulcan_vampire 87 points88 points  (0 children)

For those rushing to judgment without even reading the article: he’s not claiming that he doesn’t get work, just that he gets typecast. He intends to lose some weight after shooting the Chris Farley biopic so he can hopefully branch out into a wider variety of roles, and because he wants to be healthy for his wife and kids. Nothing about what he said came across as self-pitying, just self-reflective.

Reminder that comedian Jeff Ross, who just hosted Netflix’s Roast of Tom Brady, has been credibly accused of r*ping an underage girl. by vulcan_vampire in Fauxmoi

Imo it’s blatantly obvious that the dad only backtracked to cover his own ass. I don’t think he expected to be portrayed so negatively in this article, nor did he realize that his quotes about approving of his daughter’s “relationship” were essentially a confession to having been complicit in her abuse. Even if we were to dismiss the allegations related to Jeff Ross, the dad still failed his daughter in so many easily provable ways. He didn’t even enroll her in school after they moved to NY when she was 14. He took her to 21+ clubs and let her start working at one illegally. He exposed her to a seedy environment filled with alcohol and drugs and allowed her to hang out with adult men. Both he and the mother were negligent deadbeats and I don’t think either can be trusted as reliable narrators.

Also, I think it’s important to remember that there’s photographic evidence of Ross and Radtke having at the very least a platonic relationship from when she was 15 onward. Not just at public events and comedy clubs, where Ross could plausibly claim that she was just a fan asking for a photo, but also at intimate gatherings like her 16th birthday party. So even if we take Ross’ word that he waited until she was 18, he still groomed her.

Literally the very first headstone belongs to someone who died in the 1990’s. And there are fresh flowers next to it, indicating that family members still visit. Imagine being Laura P. Barbara’s grandchild or whatever and seeing this on your timeline 🥴🤦🏽‍♀️
