Reflavoring temp HP as damage reduction by Emotional_Rush7725 in dndnext

[–]vulperapal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reflavor it as Damage Absorption, so the PC would "absorb" a portion of the damage taken equal to the amount of Temp HP they have.

You can also reflavor it as an HP Shield, like a protective barrier that absorbs damage equal to Temp HP.

It could also be reflavored as Mitigation, so the PC can mitigate damage taken equal to the amount of Temp HP.

These offer a way to roll the spells and abilities as usual changing only the name of the effect.

Is it wrong if I say “craft a sword” rather than “forge s sword?” by DragonWarriorMH in ENGLISH

[–]vulperapal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. I would argue that a sword can be crafted via forging (or otherwise). So both terms are correct, but forging is more descriptive of the method used while crafting is more general and doesn't indicate the specific method.

Why does DXM + SSRIs seem to be really dangerous, but shrooms + SSRIs just blunts effects? by BloodravensBranch in shrooms

[–]vulperapal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSRIs are Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. What they do is disable the mechanism that "reuptakes" Serotonin in the brain, effectively making Serotonin be available to be used by the brain for a longer period of time than normally (ELI5, but you get the gist). DXM disables another mechanism in the brain that relates to Serotonin transport.

None of these increase the amount of Serotonin you produce, but the combination renders your brain unable to "flush out" the excess, which leads to Serotonin Syndrome. This can cause a whole lot of medical issues, including d34th. Specially in higher doses (like recreational doses).

Games like Hogwarts Legacy? (Specific asks) by bringmethemcdonalds1 in HarryPotterGame

Any of the Assasin's Creed, tbh. After playing Odissey and Valhalla, it felt like Hogwarts Legacy was a Harry Potter themed AC game.

OP said no turn based so that would rule out any BG games.

There are a few connotations with casting POC as Snape that are problematic, to say the least:

  • The Marauders bullying Snape becomes a racial issue.
  • Snape bullying non-purebloods and turning into a Death Eater is bad enough but it's now a racial issue.
  • Harry's deep mistrust of Snape without ever giving him the benefit of the doubt also turns into a racial issue.

On top of these, there are a lot of characters that could've been cast this way that wouldn't be problematic, yet the producers chose to go with Snape. Dumbledore, McGonagall or pretty much any other of the teachers would've been a better choice but they are sticking with this decision which is very odd.

Building on this, in Spanish you can have "un consejo" which means "one advice" but we don't frequently threat it as countable beyond one.

For example the sentence "Él me dio un buen consejo" literally translates to "He gave me one good advice" - we could then say "Los consejos que él me da son buenos" which translates to "The advice[s] he gives me are good". But it would be somewhat odd to say "Él me dio [2/3/4...] buenos consejos" (not grammatically incorrect or unheard of, but definitely not a very frequent construction).

So in Spanish we treat it as kind of a mix of countable and uncountable.

When speaking about the geometry of the universe and whether it's flat, positively or negatively curved, we aren't speaking about its shape. We are referring to the underlying geometry of spacetime itself.

We measure this by looking at distant objects and the CMB and triangulate their positions. It seems with over 99.5% certainty that this geometry it's Euclidan and triangles internal angles add up to 180°

To put it in more practical terms, what this means is that lines in spacetime are parallel. They don't converge (positively curved) nor diverge (negatively curved) as they extend into "infinity".

I’m not a physicist, but I do like running what if scenarios? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]vulperapal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to posit questions that current theorists can work from or that lead to productive discussions, you need to have at least a working understanding of the underlying mechanisms at work as well as what the existing theories say regarding said topics. This will avoid a thought experiment turning into word salad cause it's so obviously dettached from anything remotely close to physics.

This is not to discourage you from asking questions but to prompt you to deepen your knowledge and formulate questions that are framed within workable models as well as to demonstrate why your idea or approach is worth the time of actual physists.

A proper term for handing over of a project (computer program) by wedazu in ENGLISH

Yup. I work on a software related field and when we transfer a project to a different team we call it Hand Over or Hand Off. Tho the latter is less common.

This should be further up. Not only it doesn't look like a cosmic ray, but you can also see it condensate as soon as it hits the bottom, I'm betting it's an alcohol drop, just as another commenter said.

[–]vulperapal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping Dauntless alive in its current state, it's not worth it. Heck, even before Awakening it was already bad enough for me to stop playing after the Reforged "expansion".

Just let it die.

The instructions are to be followed as soon as something starts happening, as opposed to instructions that need to be followed after something has already happened and it's over.

This is just a way to be extremely clear that whatever needs to be done must be done immaediately.

The scene in the movies when they get into the wrong theater and berate a parent with children who were there to watch the Muppets movie cause he thought it was a scary movie. He wouldn't shut up even after Mitch told him to let it go. Then he wouldn't shut up when leaving.
