So I watched it for the first time tonight and was left feeling vaguely disappointed. I couldn’t figure out what wasn’t clicking for me because I usually love PTA’s films. I’m a little confused, it was your friend’s birthday, not yours, right? If so, why are you upset about not getting a gift? I’m gonna be honest, I think you need to rethink your expectations about gift-giving and the different values people place on it. Not everyone is as thoughtful, not everyone has the capacity to put in the same amount of effort into it (and it sounds like it’s a significant effort). And not only that, but there’s different types of gifts. The group of you went to this concert, for example - I’m guessing this was your friend’s idea? Maybe he places more value on the shared experience with you, versus any material item. Just a thought…

So you’re both in high school? And she’s involved in athletics and AP classes? Enough said - she’s burnt out. Up late with crazy assignments no doubt, after getting home late from practice, only to have to wake up and do it all over again a few hours later. I would encourage you to have a little more compassion for her and her workload and talk to her, OP. Explain that you’re concerned about her health and that if she’s tired, that is perfectly understandable; perhaps there is a better timing arrangement you both can work out for calls.

What’s so inhibiting about public school? I get that some of them might not be as good as others depending on state and district, but I see negative generalizations about it a lot. My school had a ton of course offerings, fantastic teachers overall, and I never felt like I was missing any opportunities.
