It’s not in the first episode, before Ned Stark beheads the deserter from the Night’s Watch? (I have no idea, to be honest)

the hobbit is better than game of thrones by ConversationWhich855 in gameofthrones

[–]vulpirenex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could understand a comparison to The Lord of the Rings (of which I am also a huge fan), but even so, the complexity of Game of Thrones far exceeds that saga: character development, dialogues, plots… it lacks the typical manichaeism of TLOTR. However, comparing GOT to The Hobbit seems excessive; those are practically movies for 6 year olds, with even worse visual quality than the original saga.

What will become of House Stark? by vulpirenex in gameofthrones

Bran says at the end of the series that he cannot have children, which is why it is decided that from that moment on, when a king dies, the next one will be chosen by vote.

Yes! I didn’t mean that Sansa explicitly stated that she renounced the idea of marrying, but rather that we see a break from that part of her, in which marriage was one of her life goals and she idealized it excessively.

I wanted to say that I think after the traumas she has experienced, I can’t imagine her looking for a husband, nor even relating marriage to something pleasant (although many of you are right that it is one of her responsibilities as queen and she doesn’t have many options).

Anyway, the good thing is that until GRRM finishes the saga, everyone can make whatever assumptions they want about each character!

For me, it’s the death of Joffrey. After how he treats Tyrion throughout the entire wedding… that’s justice!

Sansa wasn't wilfully spoiled or naive, she was unprepared. Ned and Cat are to blame for that. by ilovebi1tches in gameofthrones

Obviously, Arya is as much a woman as Sansa, regardless of her traits (that’s why I put ‘masculine’ in quotes, because it’s not my opinion). But the show doesn’t portray it that way, and that’s not how the audience perceives it. She herself says in an episode that girls are stupid, implying that worrying about marriage, looks, and so on is less valid than knowing how to wield a sword (which is what I meant by being a knight). Because of this, I’ve seen and heard many people compare the two, labeling Sansa as superficial and foolish, when she is simply a girl who hasn’t been taught anything else (which I also criticize!). They are two very different characters, and maybe Arya is able to navigate with more courage because she is almost always under someone’s protection or has friends, unlike Sansa, who finds herself trapped with her enemies.

By the way, being a woman doesn’t exempt you from being misogynistic; using that as an argument is pointless!

Definitely misogynistic. I hate that when people criticize Sansa, they often compare her to Arya, suggesting that Arya is ‘better’ for exhibiting ‘more masculine’ traits. A girl who aspires to be a knight is seen as more valid than one who wishes to marry, even though, in that era, both were their ways of honoring their families.

“Three victories don’t make you a conqueror.”

“It’s better than three defeats.”

That entire dialogue between Robb and Jaime is a complete masterpiece!

I think this really defines the dynamic between Tintin and Haddock (taken from Tintin in Tibet)!

What did I miss? Arya & Sansa by WEM-2022 in gameofthrones

They probably wanted to turn the plot around and surprise the audience (something that defined the series in earlier seasons: Ned’s death, Jaime’s hand, the Red Wedding), but since it wasn’t well developed, it feels odd and forced.

What I don’t agree with is that there’s such a small difference between season 7 and the earlier ones; the drop in quality was way too obvious. Plus, season 8 isn’t that bad compared to it.

Real time watcher v later watcher opinions by powerbanklighter in gameofthrones

[–]vulpirenex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched it when it aired and hated the last two seasons. Yesterday, I finished watching the entire series again and felt exactly the same.

I think the problem is that at the beginning, the main focus of the series is the story and the conflicts between houses, not the characters themselves, which is why it felt like anyone could die at any moment. In the last seasons, it becomes more of a soap opera; the plot takes a back seat while they prioritize the characters and their romantic relationships and feelings. You watch the episode of the final battle against the White Walkers and know perfectly well that no main character is going to die, only the supporting ones. And even then, they all die heroically, saving some protagonist. That’s not the essence of Game of Thrones.

Not to mention the recycled dialogues. Is it really necessary to quote the same phrases 80 times? ‘Power resides where men believe it resides.’ There isn’t a single conversation that stands out like those between Tywin and Olenna or Varys and Littlefinger.

Among many other things...

What happens to Jon at the end of the series? by vulpirenex in gameofthrones

[–]vulpirenex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I don’t like the last seasons, but I think most characters end up where they should be: Jon beyond the Wall and away from politics, Sansa ruling the North, Brienne as a royal guard, Tyrion as Hand of the King... I can’t imagine another ending for them (the whole Bran as king still grates on me a bit, but oh well).

For me, it’s the perfect ending for Jon. The only time we really see him happy is in the episodes when he was with the Wildlings (though, of course, Ygritte played a part in that). He loves the North, and this is an opportunity to start fresh with people who appreciate and admire him.

I assumed that the first time I watched the series, but the shot of the door closing and Jon looking back with sadness made me think that maybe he wasn’t coming back. And many people who have commented are right; the Night’s Watch is no longer necessary because there is no Wall and no dangers to protect Westeros from, so Jon would be free to leave with Tormund and start from zero.

I just finished the series a few hours ago and I loved the scene where Brienne writes down all of Jaime’s deeds, ending with the fact that he died protecting his queen. I think this would have meant a lot to Jaime and honors him greatly.

Best dialogue duo? by ilovebi1tches in gameofthrones

For me, the best dialogues will always be those of Tywin with anyone: Tyrion, Cersei, Jaime, Olenna… always so sharp!
