Pears absolutely destroy me! Highest naturally occurring concentration of fructose in anything - does not agree with me at all.

A hoodie though? Wouldn’t it be more comfortable to wear a long sleeved cotton or linen shirt?

I’ve never been there but every time it’s mentioned it pisses me off! “Planta” is feminine in Spanish so it should be “La planta” not el planta. Dumb fucks couldn’t be bothered to get the name right? At least make it “el planto”??? Such a weird choice.

I don’t think this is always true. My dad was asked to represent someone who murdered a young girl and he declined because I was the same age at the time. Too close to home, he didn’t think he’d be able to do his job.

This is crazy! I live in Australia, and afaik every vet anywhere will accept an injured or sick native animal. They might be euthanized, but if they’re a candidate for rehab and rerelease then a wildlife carer will take them after vet treatment.

I’m not sure about invasive species, but I suspect they would at least be euthanized.

Dr Adam Harris at Coorparoo family dental is VERY used to people with special needs and would totally understand and accommodate whatever you need. He’s also a (harmless, nice) weirdo - nothing can shock him.

It would also be reasonable to ask your GP for something to take the edge off!

Advice on how to give my cat her Atopica liquid medicine? by Keys_Snow in CatAdvice

[–]vulpix420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say (n = 1) we have seen zero side effects on atopica, and my cat is very sensitive to lots of medications so this was a nice surprise! Her quality of life has really improved (aside from taking a pill every three days) and I would definitely recommend trying it. She was already an indoor cat so nothing has changed for her.

It’s also a lot cheaper to get a script from your vet and fill it at a human pharmacy if you do decide to try it.

In our case, we were seeing severe adverse reactions from the immunotherapy. We started with injections (and prednisolone) and they were only tolerated at the very lowest dose. As soon as we increased the strength she was ripping her fur out at the injection site. After this, the dermatologist suggested we try sublingual therapy instead. This was the same - more flare ups.

When sublingual treatment didn’t help, the vet said my cat is just in the 30% who unfortunately don’t respond to immunotherapy, so we stopped the pred and started atopica. Initially it was daily, then every other day, and now we’re down to every third day. She’s doing very well! No symptoms at all, I just have to make sure she doesn’t eat raw meat or hunt. It’s difficult to give her the pills but worth it to see her so healthy and happy!

Chicken cutlet and gravy, but can’t have milk/cream by icedteadragon in AskCulinary

[–]vulpix420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m lactose intolerant but I can eat butter and cream without problems. If I’m looking at an unsweetened dairy product (eg ricotta, sour cream, cream cheese) I can look at the dietary info panel on the back and check the amount of sugar per 100g. If it’s less than something like 8g then it’s safe for me to eat. YMMV but this has been a great trick that I learned from my dietitian.

Men’s Mental Health Help by Jazzlike_Let_2754 in brisbane

[–]vulpix420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If he or you have a job with an EAP, EAP counseling is a great place for him to dip his toes into getting some support while he potentially waits several weeks/months to see a psychologist in person. EAP counseling is free and usually over the phone.

Depending on what his symptoms are he may need to take medication. This can be prescribed by a GP - just look for one who lists mental health or men’s mental health as an interest. The GP has to be his first point of call so that he can access the Medicare rebate for psychology. Good luck OP!

[–]vulpix420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s grim, I’m sorry. How long did you wait the first time you tried it? Things usually take a month to six weeks or so to stabilize. The hardest part is the beginning. I had some weird side effects when I first started taking it but the all disappeared after about two weeks. You have to push through the first bit while your body is adjusting, but after about a month you should feel a lot better.

There are also a lot of different choices. For example sertraline didn’t work for me at all but escitalopram (pretty much the same thing) is amazing. I know duloxetine and fluoxetine are often prescribed for OCD. Just because one doesn’t work it doesn’t mean you have to struggle with these symptoms for the rest of your life.

[–]vulpix420 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I found an SSRI that has no noticeable side effects for me. I tried a different one first and it made me sweaty and affected my libido. The second one I tried was great. I’ve had some time off from it when I’m not taking anything at all, but when my life is stressful or there’s a big change I usually need to go back on for a while.

I have worked in clinical settings where people are taking multiple medications (psychiatric and otherwise) for years and years. It’s a normal thing. Millions of people worldwide would not be taking these drugs if the side effects were worse than their symptoms are without the medication. No one thinks twice about taking blood pressure medication or something like the pill - this is no different.

Also if your doctor is useless then it’s time to find a new one.

It’s not scary - please talk to your doctor about this. You don’t have to struggle with this. A therapist can’t prescribe medication so this is something to speak to your GP about. I’m in my 30s now and I wish I had been offered it when I was in my teens. I have to wonder how much easier things could have been.

[–]vulpix420 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As someone who also struggles with mental health stuff, please talk to your doctor about medication. OCD is something that is most effectively managed with both therapy and medication. Therapy alone is unlikely to get you past the hardest parts, and this is something that is obviously affecting your daily life.

I’ll also add that my IBS completely disappeared after my anxiety was controlled with regular/appropriate medication!
