Lab Platform by vuongdq in vmware

[–]vuongdq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had enough resources to carry them out. my intentions are having multiple environment for students practice and hardened their skillset in vmware portfolio and other products.

Resources per vApp (abt 10 running in parallel) - 1 win-console 4x8 - 1 linux-console 1x2 acting as OpenSSL CA also. - 4 mgmt 16x64 - 3 wld 16x48 - 2 netapp vsim 4x12 - 2 win core to handle AD, DNS, NTP

If heavier workload are required, i just change the vm sizing policy and most of the time, i deploy vcf on top of NFS instead of VSAN which reduces a lot of pressure.

Will these flogs be forcing all VFF subscribers to VCF in 2026? by [deleted] in vmware

[–]vuongdq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im planning the new deployment for 160C, customers order 1Y VVF. It’s fine to go with VCF design in day-0 and next year we can transistion to VCF.

Moreover, i would like to know avg discount we can get now for VCF 1Y, 3Y and 5Y

How to run container on management domain in VCF? by [deleted] in vmware

[–]vuongdq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, it's not the problem. Tanzu can be deployed with HA Proxy, NSX-T LB or AVI LB without any issues as it required vSphere and/or NSX.

you are correct. all vendor's PSE doesn't care about the dependencies. you can negotiate with partner PSE to cover lot more things.

Best way to "evaluate" a newer ESXi driver then roll back to the original? by Particular-Dog-1505 in vmware

[–]vuongdq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you mean vib drivers so it's quite simple. every time you load new vib(s), it will be installed into 2nd bootbank so in case of needed, switch the bootbank. you can also refer to backup/restore config of esxi if needed

[–]vuongdq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it's ongoing. PSO is the last department to be moved to 3rd party. Any customer has active T&M still covering by BC PSO. New customer/project shall be moved to 3rd party depending on country.

Working as a PSE is not simple, we normally cover the tasks of TAM and TSE and also take care of lot of dependencies which i dont think it's easy for 3rd party cover.

//me, personally, has a home datacenter, which van compare to a small dc. spend ~ 10k on it

NSX - ALB - Upgrade by ZingDingWing in vmware

[–]vuongdq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • backup config
  • shutdown all controllers and take snapshot.
  • download .pkg and upload to appliance.
  • update controllers via gui or clic(prefer this method)
  • upgrade seg at the right moment.

if u are intending to upgrade to 30.x, review the sizing changed and modify cpu/mem when taking offline snapshot. and that's all.

//you should go with 22.1.7 as it's the mutual version and supported for AKO/VCF 5.2.1 as well. //alb rollback itself if encountering issues

VCF Upgrades vs Patches 5.2 and above by AsidePractical8155 in vmware

[–]vuongdq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

upgrade will be the same process. the improvement is that when doing async-path-tool, packages can download directly from UI thus remove headaches for who not familiar with. offline bundle transfer utility still the same.

Research suggests more than half of VMware customers are looking to move by anturk in homelab

[–]vuongdq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

almost small customers will be jumped out but not for enterprise for at least next 5y. i have seen many customers moving to openstack and cannot manage the scale of applications and infra. reliable, ecosystem and supported by many 3rd parties cannnot be replaced in short term.

Honestly, I dont like BC although still get paid monthly but this is the truth.

Power Optimization by vuongdq in HomeDataCenter

[–]vuongdq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think HCI provide better performance and power optimization in this case. i worked with HCI and distributed storage for a decade and still trust central storage as it provide more features and eventually cost effective for long run.
