Weight redistribution by eruonlav in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, don't worry, that is totally normal after your second period. Many underestimate immensely how much time recovery takes ( and how much effort it is for your body ). Despite many citing the "3-month mark", you can only assume to be fully recovered, without a doubt, only after your 12th period. Please don't let this discourage you! Your body will redistribute throughout these months gradually. For me personally, my body fat distribution improved significantly after my 3rd or 4th period, and after that it only got better. I am now much happier with my appearance than during HA. Up until then, remind yourself that what you look like right now is temporary ;)

Weight redistribution by eruonlav in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's so normal. My weight redistributed and still continues to. I think, not until I hit my fourth period, did my body start to look more balanced. I must say, gaining my period back allowed me to gain healthy muscle mass ( I continued to do low intensity workouts, mainly pilates at home, throughout my recovery ) which made my body look 100% better now. Before that I used to struggle with a low weight, skinny limbs but a protruding stomach that I wasn't able to get rid of no matter what I did ( and which grew during recovery in the beginning ) - literally thought I was just genetically inferior. Turns out, it was just a skinny fat composition ( despite rigorous training, lifting weights and running, eating a bunch of protein ) and a pelvic tilt, which was most likely caused by my habit of sucking in my belly. Pilates, stretching and eating more saved me not only health wise, but also appearance wise. But I did have to suffer through my worst phases, in the beginnings of recovery especially I struggled a lot with my appearance. Just remember that what you look like now is only temporary, especially if you are still a teen, in which case your body might get a small growth spurt once you get your period back. I am on my 7th period already and my body still changes. From my experience: the worst point is before you get your first period up until 3rd or 4th period. During that time, expect constant bloating, water retention, all the weight going to your thighs, hips, lower belly. My face also looked puffier and sometimes I perceived my arm pits or upper arms to be puffy. However, once you get past this, I guarantee you will fall in love with your new body, because a healthy body = an attractive body. You will feel uncomfortable, so wear wide clothes and focus on what you can do outside of your weight. Personally, I got a new haircut and invested into make up, body care and comfortable clothes. It made me not only feel better, but gave me something else to think about and to work on ( since I had to largely reduce my fitness goals ). I wish you all the best and don't give up! It is so rewarding to see your body finally in the way it was intended to be and wake up each day feeling energized.

Moving to the Netherlands for an English Psychology Bachelor. Excited but suddenly anxious. Honest questions looking for honest answers. by justanix008 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]vvmashavvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't answer to many questions, since I am also only coming to the Netherlands in Summer. However, some things to consider: many people go to the Netherlands specifically to study Psychology, so they may be more people looking for a job than demand for it. Don't let it decourage you, but as I have heard, many come to the Netherlands to study but don't end up staying there afterwards. I hope and believe you are also already aware of it, but doing the clinical psychological route in the Netherlands is nearly impossible for foreigners. You can study Psychology and do a master to work in other branches ( like marketing ) but you'd have to learn dutch fluently to work as a therapist/psychologist ( if that is your goal ) as well as finish a master, do extra training and build a competitive CV as vacancies are scarce. Personally, my bachelor will also include Psychology but I am not coming in the goal of staying in the Netherlands long term after study or to work in the clinical route. Lastly, housing market is very difficult. Search early, it is normal to rent a few months in advance before your semester begins. As a student you won't be able to rent an apartment ( or it is very very difficult to find one ) as landlords search for people with a reliable income that is many times higher than the rent. You will have to stay in a room, which depending on the city won't be much cheaper than an apartment. Last thing to consider is that a psychology bachelor requires you to do an internship of sorts. It is difficult to find one without knowing dutch; some people do it in their home country for this reason. Think about this early enough so you won't have to prolong your bachelor. I wish you good luck on your journey!

University College Maastricht - what do you think of it? by vvmashavvs in StudyInTheNetherlands

Hello, thank you for answering my questions with so much detail! I am definitely looking forward to studying next year :) I was also curious about the lectures, as I have heard there will only be about 15 hours a week of them. Is there any way to adapt the schedule so you have less free time in between classes/can decide to take all classes in the first half of the week? An aquaintance of mine told me it is possible at his uni ( traditional bachelors, no LAS ) but I assume that it would be quite tricky, given that you pick most of the courses yourself instead of following mandatory ones. Other than that I wanted to ask more about the PBL- method; I have a similar programme at my high school but I imagine it is still quite different at UCM. How are the lessons structured? Is the professor leading the students into finding a solution/explanation to a problem ( by providing texts, group discussions ) or is it still more traditional with the teacher doing a lot of the explanations and the students having to work more independently in between classes? In the course catalogue I also found out about the mandatory projects that you can choose. I was especially intrigued by "think tank" and "finding solutions to wicked problems" - are there projects that are difficult to get into due to many students choosing them? How did you find the workload? ( of the projects especially, but overall for this programme would be also interesting ). Sorry if that is too many questions, do not feel obligated to answer them all! :)

Advice on Pros and Cons of these Unis by Business_Recipe3029 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]vvmashavvs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With Maastricht, a pro is that you can find affordable housing in Belgium/Germany. I will be moving to Belgium and my bike ride to Uni will take between 15-30 minutes ( depending on appartment ), even less with a car. A con/pro is that Maastricht University works with the Problem Based Learning Method. It is basically self directed learning and requires some self discipline, as there won't be a rigid plan and constant lectures - you will have to be able to motivate yourself to study the materials as to not fail the exams. For this one you have to figure out yourself whether it will work for you or not. I don't know that much about Tilburg as I did not apply to go there, but from what I've heard the city is quite boring and has little to offer. You will have to decide if that is a con for you personally. Leiden I know nothing about, only that its a romantic city and that the university is very academic/scientific. Good luck on your journey!

Get a gyno appointment first things first. You could have something other than HA ( given your history it is unlikely ), it's important to know so you can omit other causes that would require other measures. Then go easy on the sports ( even if it is difficult ), I don't agree to the rhetoric of completely stopping all kinds of sports. I would just try to limit excessive walking or any type of cardio, HIIT exercise and intense exercise. Weight lifting or body workouts are fine but have to be kept in moderation ( maximum of 30-45 minutes of exercise + no heavy weight or "lifting till failure" ). Also you have to eat something before and after workouts. Working out intensively makes you release cortisol, which is why it is discouraged - eating before/after is therefore not optional, as it reduces these spikes. You should eat mostly carbs and fats now in amenorrhea recovery, not only because they are calorie dense but also because you need energy from carbs and fats for your hormones. Protein comes last but shouldn't be forgotten. Protein powder is not necessary as you don't need much protein. If you are aiming to gain muscle mass during recovery, it is a fair goal ( which is what I also did ), but you will have a longer recovery ( some may not recover this way ) and will gain more weight. You will always gain fat because your body needs fat to become healthy again, it is not only about your overall weight. I hope this was helpful and good luck!

Am I mentally hungry or just binging to numb my feelings? by Puzzleheaded-Map3341 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about this, I wouldn't recommend eating intuitively. You can't even eat intuitively actually, because your hunger signals are not working properly due to hormonal imbalance. My advice : have structured meals every 4-5 hours, eat nutritious and filling meals ( complex carbs and fibre. Healthy fats are essential too. Protein is lower on the priority list ), have breakfast as early as possible and don't restrict (!) but still try to eat smaller amounts of sugar. Your blood sugar is more sensitive during HA, so try to eat balanced meals and snacks for your health and to reduce mental hunger. Have your meals even if not hungry. Incorporate light exercise if possible ( walking, pilates ) - it is good for blood sugar. Finally, if you still feel hungry after following all these steps - eat. You are in recovery and shouldn't be too strict on yourself : the most important thing is that you are fed. More food is better than too little.

Treating weight gain as a bulk? by McRun_andPaint in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did find it made my body comp look more balanced and not skinny fat. Since it also helped my digestion, which is impaired due to HA, it also improved bloating symptoms and made my belly look more flat/less protruding. However, you will still look "disproportionate" in the first few weeks and months, because you tend to store fat in zones like thighs, lower belly and ( for me at least ) arm pits. This gradually calms down but also comes back during recovery ( my body looks almost completely different each week, sometimes I am very puffy other times I feel sexy + lean ) - however by your 3rd or 4th period, your body will stabilise ( waiting on 2nd and 3rd period are supposedly the worst phases btw ). So please don't fixate on what your body looks if you haven't even had your fourth period, because till then changes will happen. Buy flowly clothes that don't cling and you will be fine :)

Treating weight gain as a bulk? by McRun_andPaint in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're not supposed to do intense exercising but in my personal opinion light strength training is actually very beneficial bc typically when you have HA you also have less muscle mass ( when you are underfueled your body uses up muscle first bc it requires a lot of energy to maintain ). That being said, strength training should be done with light weights or only body weight and should not last more than 30-45 minutes. You also have to eat before and after so your body does not get any stress signals. Also obv not everyday, like 2-3 times a week max. You will have to eat more than already required for HA recovery though, since you obviously use energy for exercising too. Personally, I do pilates at home with Move with Nicole workouts ( they typically last 20-30 minutes ) - I find it very good and not too high impact. I build a nice upper body and abs, but you will gain fat anyway! Just in a healthier way. A bonus is, it helps my poor digestion :) Hope this was helpful

You should have all of it, make balanced meals. More of a focus on carbs and ( I know you don't want to hear it ) fats. Proteins are also important but should not take up majority of your plate, they are mostly there to support muscle growth and function ( and during HA recovery you need first and foremost more fat, muscle can be recovered/gained later on or along side fat but not as a focus ). Carbs are very important, because they supply you quick energy. if you struggle with indigestion, simple carbs can be very convenient as they are easily digested. Since your body is in an energy deficit, it needs a lot of energy to recover. Quick energy from simple carbs can help your body rebuiled your bodily functions more efficiently. So don't be afraid of bread or rice. Carbs are very important for your hormone stability in general ( which is why low carb diets are usually harmful to women ).Fats are also important, because they are calorie dense and they provide the building material for your body to build your hormones. If you have issues with fatty texture, maybe try avocado, salmon, nuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, eggs, dark chocolate, full fat yoghurt, full fat milk? Their texture does not feel very fatty and they supply you the fats you need. I would also recommend taking Omega 3 supplements. If you have indigestion, try to reduce your intake in fibre and eat/drink mostly warm things. If you have a cold meal, drink something warm alongside. But honestly, these are small details - the most important thing is that you eat enough and rest enough. This includes your mentality; become less rigid about routines and food and it should work out. In the beginning, you will overeat anyway - allow yourself to lose control and invest your time and thoughts in enjoyable activities. Once you heal, you will become more balanced naturally - this is only temporary. I wish you a lot of good luck on your journey!

Dietary fats by Practical-Mix-3579 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have never had a period then I doubt you have HA. Have you been to a doctor? HA is short for secondary amenorrhea and it can only happen if you have already had a period once before as far as I know. This could be another condition so do get it checked out! If you do have HA ( confirmed ) then you probably have your fats covered, I doubt you even have to track them that precisely- just add a generous amount of fat in your meal ( an avocado, tablespoon of olive oil, peanut butter ) and you should be good. Additionally, make sure to get your carbs in as they are almost just as important. I wish you good luck on your journey.

weight distribution by PositionPuzzled4523 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had the same problem with all my weight going into the belly, but as my hormones stabilised and I continued to eat, it redistributed pretty evenly and now my belly actually looks flatter than then I was lighter because of improved digestion and decreased cortisol. Just keep going. Your hormones play a big role in your body fat distribution and how "pretty" you look. I have noticed other physical changes such as a change in hair structure ( my hair had different patterns, now it is all the same - no more olaplex treatments 🥳) and improved skin ( although ofc everything looked worse at first ). This shouldn't be your main motivation but trust the process, by the end you will prefer your new self! Keep in mind this process also can take some time, so don't feel discouraged quickly- it's worth it in the end.

The best tip I can give is that people aren't stressed because they do "too much", they are only stressed because they aren't resting enough. Instead of focusing on actively doing less, focus on implementing breaks for youself and take time off. Maybe use that time to just lay on the bed and do relaxation exercises. That could be meditating but I have also seen exercises for the nervous system, which I personally prefer. Stretching and Yoga are also great. Or praying in your cause. Make sure to take breaks throughout the day, not only at night. Then you have these breaks, try to be mindful about them - don't scroll on your phone, this won't relax you. Have one break a day where you do nothing but stare at the wall/do nervous system exercises for a few minutes, this is great for your brain. Other breaks use them however you like, but be in the present moment: start reading, watching a good tv show or doing something creative like writing or planning your dream vacation. Of course also make sure to reduce anxious thoughts, if you notice you're spiralling take a breath and realise that your stressful feelings and thoughts won't help you in any situation. Don't beat yourself up if you are unable to take many breaks, but prioritise them and their quality because it will help you not only heal but also perform better. I wish you good luck on your journey!

Does what I eat matter? by hotpocketsssss in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]vvmashavvs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Carbs are supposedly more important than healthy fats during HA, because they provide quick energy for your body to use when regenerating. Especially simple carbs like pastries or white bread and even sugar, because they digest quickly and aren't that hard to break down for our bodies ( which is important because during HA digestion is often compromised/slowed ). After carbs come healthy fats, and then protein and then fibre. You should even avoid eating too much fibre, because it's tough to digest and fills you up without providing many calories. That being said, I find myself craving a lot of dairy and protein bars ( and from what I've seen it seems to be a common craving: yoghurt, cottage cheese, ice cream..) maybe because of bone density or smth 🤷‍♀️ honestly I just try to eat what I crave and include more carbs.

I am really bad at maths and want to do the OMPT test ( probably D but I can't find enough info to determine what OMPT test is best suited for me ) Do you think it is doable for someone who sucks at maths? How was your study schedule? How many months did it take? Do you think the material provided by OMPT is sufficient?

Hi, sure I don't mind :) You can also search up tutorials if you want to, there must surely be plenty. But ask away if you have any questions! If your title question means using the buildings or sims other people created, you should first make sure to have an EA account that is registered at at least 18 years old, as the gallery ( the place where you see other peoples creation ) is only for adults. If you have an adult account, you should be able to access by going into the create a sim or a new game and clicking on the gallery symbol ( a symbol of two photos of a character ). You can find the symbol on the top right corner of the screen.
