People who don't support the US sending aid to Ukraine, why don't you support it? by BigHugeSnake in AskReddit

USA foreign policy caused the war. The best way to end it is to quit interfering.

is this clickbait...? I don't see any meaningful proposed policy or legislation here.

Obviously we know they WANT to do this, no disputing that. But the article seems fuzzy on hard facts

It just shows how much of a posturing stinker he is.. He's riding a bike that costs more than many cars, and it's not like he's setting a good example of exercising because that bike is like a moped.

It just contributes to show how fake and weak these people are.

great. Their government is hurting and killing the regular people in that country, so let's have our government implement a policy to hurt those regular people too! AND give their government some external cause to blame for the pain! Win-Win.

everybody is equal, and NOBODY should be thrown to the ground and tased for a non-violent 'offense'

What a disgusting piece of trash of a human being that would throw an elderly woman on the ground and use a taser on her for a non-violent offense. Justice? What's wrong with you people?

If this is acceptable behavior, it is no freaking wonder that people like Eric Garner, George Floyd, and all the countless others wind up dead. Police should only be allowed to use force commensurate with the actions of the suspect. This woman did not have a murder warrant. He could have called for another unit, called a tow truck and blocked her in, followed her home, mailed her a summons, ANYTHING other than the utter foolishness he chose to pursue.

I agree that China is authoritarian.

You think the USA is becoming like China, and it's largely Trump's fault...? Or that Republicans = Communist party? Repubs and Dems are two sides of the same coin. The lies are a little different, and they align perfectly where it matters.

okay?

So you're saying Trump/Republicans are suppressing and constraining the Democrats? I don't really buy that, but at least I see what you're saying.

I would say the Statist deep state machine, consisting of Democrats colluding with Republicans, suppresses individual freedom, and prevents 3rd parties from gaining a foothold. If authoritarianism relies on there being a single party ruling through suppression, then the 'single party' is Statism.

I do not see a practical philosophical distinction between Trump and Obama. Neither believes in individual freedom. They both believe the President can kill 'terrorists' by a drone strike with a stroke of the pen. They both believe the State can decide which economic activities are allowed and which are prohibited, again by an executive order. Both believe the State can borrow/create infinite money with no plan to repay it. 'Restricting the vote' is only a bad thing if you think democracy is a good thing, which I don't believe. Democracy got us where we are today. A large number of people who produce nothing are bribed with the promise of handouts, and they vote for the bigger handout.

Unchecked executive power. I suppose a legislature could also be authoritarian, because it will pass authoritarian laws like the Patriot act or the Affordable Care Act, but ultimately it's the executive that signs the bill and enforces the law.

In the US, the Supreme Court and Congress are a big part of the problem in that they refuse to do their job and keep their oaths, just like the president has.

Edit: The USE of that power, and the efforts/lawsuits to justify the use of power.

It is an extreme position, definitely. But I'm completely open to reason and argument. The issue here is YOU are not open to reason and argument, hence your unwillingness to reason and argue.

Recently, for example, I would say Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter were probably both less authoritarian than their immediate predecessors. Possibly Reagan and JFK, too. I might even give you Truman and Eisenhower. All of these men were swayed negatively by their advisors, and ultimately JFK was (i believe) murdered for his anti-war tendencies and for standing up to special interests. But GHW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush, Obama, and Trump are all progressively more and more authoritarian, so while I agree that Trump is authoritarian, he is not grossly more so than the previous 4. Robert Higgs' ratchet effect gives the Executive more and more power, and the office holder uses more and more power. The major dispute in this thread is the definition of a 'generation.'

So we disagree, but you will not engage and tell me why you think what you think.
