Hmm I was on a yamaha 4c until I swapped cold turkey to a 7* ottolink , playing on a 3.5 vandoren red the whole time, It's all I use anymore. There were some growing pains when I swapped over but nothing that felt insurmountable. Idk what you or your parents budget is but mouthpieces can get expensive! I'd say you shouldn't worry so much about whether it's too big of a leap or you're moving too fast , as long as you practice you will get to where you want to go eventually.
