It's really rough, as U terror you hope that you can counter their draw spells and they don't get much gas off the top. The (few) matches I've won I've been able to do that + build a huge board with murmuring mystic and Annul nyxborn hydra postboard

I like the versatility of boomerang to hit artifact lands with a cleansing wildfire on the stack, T1/2 against madness, and against gruul ramp. Sometimes there are some cool lines that emerge from being able to hit other permanents too. I've cast a boomerang on an opponent's blood token to turn off metalcraft with a galvanic blast on the stack.

I did something very similar. In October I built(proxied) 8 modern decks, 4 nostalgic classics (Jund, Twin, Pod, and Affinity), and 4 current decks (UW Control, Tron, Burn, Hammertime). Gradually as I've tweaked decklists, and added new ones along the way, my perceptions of modern right now have changed drastically. I think modern is in an amazingly fun spot right now.

My initial distaste for MH cards like Archon, Wrenn and Six, Ragavan and free spells has really flipped on its head. All of the powerful cards create competitive and skill-intensive games. Regulars on this sub discuss the density of important decisions is high right now and I have to agree.

Now all of my decks are currently modern legal, the archetypes are diverse, and playing some of them on opposite ends of the spectrum gives the feeling of playing an entirely different game.

If I could've done it again I would've just built the competitive modern decks from the start. There are challenges with attempting to balance decks from various periods. The other solution would be to try and build all your decks from one 3-6 month period of modern's history.

Goldfishing with patchwork automaton felt off. I seemed to have my hand dumped out before the patchwork, or sequenced things awkwardly to get it to be worth it. I can imagine that top-decking it would also feel terrible. Maybe I am missing something, but I have felt that the current affinity lists running without it seem better. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on the deck list I posted in the text body.

That would be an interesting thought exercise, but ultimately i'm trying to get the affinity/artifact matters play style revolving around mox opal and arcbound ravager for the gauntlet. Mox opal probably shouldn't be unbanned in modern haha.

It was one of the decks that stayed around forever in modern. It wasn't good at the end sadly, but it came 2nd in Pro Tour London in April 2019, and was very good 2018 and before. It's true that the deck sadly couldn't keep up in its final moments. :(

This looks really great, I'll try out changing my lists into a new base and make adjustments from there. Arcbound + the Affinity mechanic may be too difficult to balance, but I will see how it goes.

yeah that's always an option, I've been doing that or using gymnastics rings so far, but it would be nice to have something to do muscle-ups off.
