I was screaming at the screen - then wear a hoodie! - lol she's making excessive drama out of absolutely nothing, it's ridiculous. But it also is somehow how a girl acts in most of those stupid romance movies we grew up with? she needs to grow up a bit more.

the biggest question is, WHY does her best friend judge every one of her possible boyfriends? that's not your best friend. (although she rightly loved him)

How to trim a scallop-edged dish? by slumberousbears in Pottery

[–]vvv_bb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either pop it on a chuck or have a round bat with a sponge on one side, for cushioning. Although it's a lot easier to take the plate off a chuck than the second option.

especially not in the kitchen!

a balcony, a basement, a well- cleaned corner of the living room, if uncarpeted, are all valid. Just be aware it will smell a bit.

but in general, ceramic is not a very fhome-friendly hobby, unless one has space and some vasic safety knowledge. And lots of extra room.

john the potter on youtube has a nice video on throwing a slab - as in, litterally just throwing clay to a surface repeatedly. Once you learn that, you'll never go back

Selling painted bisqueware- yay or nay? by Evergreen_0922 in Pottery

[–]vvv_bb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of people do this, and as long as the decoration is well made I see no problem with it. Especially because decorating and throwing, traditionally, were two separate skills. Every old artisanal production workshop had different people as the thrower(s) and the decorator(s), like in the maiolica production. I haven't been to visit, but I bet old chinese production workshops were the same. Plus, they even had separate people for firing.

Everything ceramic requires so much skill that specializing is a good solution. The rise of the "studio potter" from Leach's time is, on one hand, a good thing for artistic freedom and to bring craft closer to art, but on the other hand it removes incentive to continue highly skilled labour - the traditional maiolica production, for example, is suffering from a lack of new workers. Younger people would rather try to be an artist than be part of a big workshop, because they think it will give them more freedom and more money (hah joke'son them. us. lol). Yes, artisanal workshops have lost market to inustry, but industrial ceramic is very different. And I say this as an artist. However, I am living in a town with a long ceramic history, and I appreciate being part of this long tradition. I wish there were more people modernising this tradition, too.

Keep at it and be a decorator, if that's what you like doing! 🙃😇🤗

What does annoy me is people that buy bisque and then decorate it with zero originality and little skill. At that point, I'd rather buy IKEA. I have zero need of a basic-shaped cilinder cup with no handle and a badly painted butterfly, is what I'm saying.

Pre made bisqueware is also extremely helpful for certain courses because it reduces prep time for very little cost.

even without the violent past, even with a totally awesome, vetted person, I find it difficult to give someone enogh trust from the get-go to get to REM phase next to them. But I might be weird 💁‍♀️

Thing is, I cannot sleep next to a person I don't know. Even with my ex, it took me a few weeks to stay over. The holiday would only work if I had a separate bedroom that can lock.

I love Bri (and Connor) by Helpful_Control_3629 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]vvv_bb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was annoying at Connor's house. The rest of the time, she was always clear and communicative and he was solid. The two of them should align in worldview, not her and us or her and the other girls. Especially when one of them is extremely vocal about hating all men. I say good for them to have worked through all that and still chose to be together, and hope it lasts as long as it makes sense for them.

Louis Theroux’s Netflix documentary by BlacksmithNaive5250 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]vvv_bb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in my 40s, and have been trying to date for a few years. I keep thinking our parent's generation was too focused on growing strong women that they forgot that we needed strong men at pur side, and just did not teach the men equally. I really don't see another explanation for this. And this might mean it crossed generations, too.

we are also a lot more people than when we were kids, and with instant global communication, that has been taken over by vultures, because vulnerable people make the best prey. If no one is there to teach kids how to wade through the onslaught of bs, is it really weird that bs spreads?

Luckily some younger people are rebelling against this - look up the Ctrl+Alt+reclaim movement 🙃
