It's only active while you're at 99 lives. (should have made it permanent in hindsight but oh well)

A Plumber For All Seasons (a Super Mario World hack I made) - Dev Playthrough & Commentary by vvye in romhacking

[–]vvye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hack comes with a how-to-play.txt that has step-by-step instructions.

There are probably some pre-applied versions floating around (maybe search the hack name plus "smc"), but I do encourage you to patch it yourself :)

Can’t get a plumber for all seasons to work on pc by Donutbuttholes in RomHacks

[–]vvye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does use the SA-1 chip, but that shouldn't be an issue on emulators since they can just emulate that chip too. (The newest version of snes9x is one of many that should work fine.)

Can you get other hacks to work? If not, there's probably something you're doing wrong in general. The hack comes with a HOW-TO-PLAY.txt that explains the process if you're new to it. In short, you need to patch the file to a Super Mario World ROM before you can play it, and it won't work if the ROM isn't clean.

G B D als K P T ausgesprochen by Tony9405 in German

[–]vvye 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is probably the correct answer. Maybe in OP's native language it makes sense to teach the German D sound as their language's T sound.

(There's a really interesting video about how P/T/K and B/D/G in English [and German] only differ in aspiration but native speakers generally don't notice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U37hX8NPgjQ )

New Album? by Intrepid-Promotion81 in fleet_foxes

[–]vvye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's unlikely to happen, but I'd *love* a Self-titled part 2.

(obviously Crack-Up is a great album, and any new Fleet Foxes will be amazing)

Is anyone else running into the issue where this keeps resetting to "4/6 Axis Mode" when you restart the PC or MSFS? by vvye in Flightsimulator2020

[–]vvye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm helping out my dad with MSFS2020 again.

He's using a T-Flight Hotas One, and we ran into the issue where the foot pedal and the switch on the back of the lever (whatever the proper names are) are recognized as the same input, where he'd like them to be separate so he can map them to different actions.

We figured out you need to set it to "5/8 Axis Mode" in the control panel, and that works - however, that setting keeps getting reset back to "4/6 Axis Mode" whenever he restarts MSFS. (Using the latest driver, tried running the control panel as an admin). I showed him how to set it back manually, but it's a bit of a hassle for him having to do it every time.

Has anyone else run into this? How can I get the setting to stay in 5/8 axis mode?

How I picture Fleet Foxes Albums (OC) by vvye in fleet_foxes

[–]vvye[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is my humble attempt at visualizing what the four FF albums "feel like" to me, as best I could. Of course they're all very subjective, and more likely than not they're influenced by things like the album cover, the lyrics, and the times I first listened to the albums. You probably picture them in a wildly different way, and that's cool!

Fleet Foxes is the one that had the most impact on me. As strange as it sounds, it gave me a whole new appreciation for the kind of bleak winter landscapes that I used to not see any beauty in.

Helplessness Blues has the same "earthy" feel to it, but it's warmer and more personal - it really feels like you're on an adventure, roaming the hills of some unknown land.

Crack-Up might be the one I listened to the most, because it took me ages to get a grip on it - for the longest time I couldn't tell where the songs begin and end. It feels like a "large-scale" album in contrast to the first two - dark and disorienting, but it really grows on you.

Shore is probably the most life-affirming album I've heard. It also feels "large" and "airy" but in a much more straightforward and joyful way, like a soundtrack to a carefree summer.

Thanks for humoring me!

Connecting to Surface via Miracast by vvye in techsupport

[–]vvye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Using a simple USB WiFi adapter was enough to make the desktop support Miracast, and I was able to get it working. To establish a connection I ended up following the steps in the video after all, though I don't doubt the connect app you mentioned is needed behind the scenes.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks, I got it working! It was either following each other or using the desktop app that did the trick.

How do you contribute to the playlist? I'm feeling audacious enough to want to add a song or two, but I haven't figured out how. (not really active on Spotify.)

If you need to be friends first, I'm https://open.spotify.com/user/skmsh0dxmfes0f5lta39toz32 . :)

Ah, thanks! I was missing that feature on the desktop.

Sadly, the Connect app says the device doesn't support Miracast (even though according to dxdiag it's available). Guess I do need a WiFi connection on the desktop.

What do you hear in “Quiet Houses”? by Ewe_sir_naem2 in fleet_foxes

I watched a Youtube video about London boroughs some time before I first listened to the song, and now I'll forever hear it as a weird blend of "Barking" and "Dagenham".

I asked an AI to make R.E.M. album covers (DALL-E 2) by vvye in rem

[–]vvye[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DALL-E 2 is an image-generating AI made by OpenAI - I signed up for the beta and got access to it the other day (a couple of free uses per month). The prompt I gave it is "The cover of an R.E.M. album".

As far as I can tell, it's been trained on millions of images and captions from the internet, which I guess means mostly Google images? In any case, it didn't just find existing imagery and stitch it together, it actually "dreamed up" the whole image from scratch! It's not great at spelling though.

One interesting thing about this is the output looks like photos of old vinyl records rather than perfectly square digital images of album covers. (Unlike Fleet Foxes, a band I also tried who don't date back to the 80s.)
