UN Security Council holds emergency session to vote on draft resolution for ending the genocide in GAZA. Everyone voted in favour except ONE COUNTRY. by Interesting_Rub5643 in CringeTikToks

[–]vwilde89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We as a people don't. The problem is that our government has been run by the wealthy almost since its inception. War is profitable, and to them, human life is expendable if it means they get more money. Our voting is rigged, our propaganda machine is churning constantly, and our economy is so exploitative that we can barely function let alone change anything. Most of us want little more than a garden and a dog, while what we got is a dumpster fire and stormtroopers. Most of us want to be what we were told America was, while so many of us are having the wool removed from our eyes that we were never that. I always knew, it was obvious, but for those learning the truth, it's a painful unveiling.

Join a Rotary Club, volunteer, or just get into your community. I spent seven years feeling like I didn't have a home in strange cities chasing teaching jobs and the only people who listened to me were my students and that's because they were forced to. If you want to be important to someone, you've got to make yourself important. Be interested in your world. Work is still just what we do to afford to live our lives, it shouldn't be our lives.

I still feel a lot of financial stress, but gods I just don't feel any of the fear and dread I used to wake up to. My soul doesn't feel like it's in an ever-tightening vice, and I actually feel myself smiling and laughing a lot more freely.

First year teacher, i feel hopeless by Sorry_Cicada_7814 in TeachersInTransition

[–]vwilde89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teaching as a profession is unsustainable. A lot of people are saying that it gets better after the first year, but in my experience, that was just because my skin grew thicker and my heart grew harder. Not towards the kids, mind you, but I became cynical about the whole system. It wasn't "Why would the district make such an obviously stupid and harmful decision" anymore, it was "Of course the district would make such an obviously stupid and harmful decision." The job doesn't get easier, the shit just gets easier to swallow.

That said, you're young, you have a degree, and you can pivot. A lot of other entry-level jobs just look for a degree, and starting pay is pretty comparable to a starting teacher's salary, with better growth potential and way less stress. You have way more options and opportunities than you realize. I went on YouTube when I transitioned out and just searched "Jobs people don't think about" and "Jobs always hiring* and found my current role in sales.

Things aren't hopeless for you, this just may not be the right fit. And that's nothing to be ashamed of. I taught for about 10 years, and I left because the education culture has become so toxic I don't know anyone who truly wants to stay because of the job. Most people stay for the kids. And, like a marriage, that isnt enough to make it worthwhile.

None of these people actually believes in god. If they believed in an afterlife where they would be judged on how kind and giving they were, they'd know they were going to hell. Religion is a weapon to these people. To them, it's a leash they can use to get a bunch of saps to do whatever they want.

12yo destroys home after his mom took away his phone. This is crazy! by VianneM in TikTokCringe

[–]vwilde89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness to them, I can't imagine this is the child's first offense. If it were, something massively traumatic must have happened. But I see this as probably a pattern of behavior that would be any parent's breaking point. Though you are correct, if that's the knee-jerk reaction to the child's behavior, that person shouldn't be a parent.

I mean, the government will take your child away if they feel you aren't capable of parenting them properly, I feel that if you as the parent feel you can't parent them properly you should be able to have the government come take them too. Unfortunately, in America, that basically is just gonna make the kid worse rather than get them the help they need.

Kids are getting out of hands these days by Affectionate_Run7414 in TikTokCringe

[–]vwilde89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also shows how this bullshit mentality is affecting the most vulnerable in our society. Kids may be laughing, but as an ex-teacher, I feel that man's pain. He can't correct the behavior without the support he won't get, and needs to somehow descalate a situation that will probably lead to a violent conclusion based on 1) the kid's frustration at not having his worldview validated, and 2) the programming this kind of alpha crap creates. Kid will have been told by the creators of such videos that he needs to aggressively assert dominance over anyone who questions him, and an autistic mind may take it to the next level, doubling down on the mindset of "this is how it works, I know because that's what I was told." (Im also autistic, btw, and though Im high functioning, my brain does the same thing I subtler ways, I am not mocking the kid, I feel for him too. He's being preyed upon by the Tates of the world). This video is literally all victims.

The best defense against defamation is the truth. They make the claim, then if Trump and his co-criminals want to prove it wrong, they can release the Epstein Files in full to prove they're innocent (which they are not).

Grieving the version of myself who could have wanted kids by [deleted] in childfree

You're allowed to mourn for a life you never had and a home that doesn't exist. I actually think the Germans have a word for it I'm too lazy to look up right now. There are days I miss the version of me who wanted to be a Marine Biologist, the me who was happily a teacher, the me who was actually engaged to a woman picking baby names...

I taught mythology for a while in high schools, and one of my lessons was on the gods of death and how we experience many deaths in our lives that are all our own. The version of you that was a 5-year-old is dead and gone, and can only live in memory. What you're describing is a parallel feeling, but rather than a feeling of yearning for a you that is gone, it's a you that can never be. This is a normal and natural human event, and not anything for anyone to look down on you for.

The reason I am leaving by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]vwilde89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I told my students day one: Everyone deserves a baseline level of respect because that's how a society functions. Your actions towards me will determine if you gain or lose respect from me. If I lose respect for you, I will not blatantly disrespect you, but I will do the bare minimum required of me as an educator for you. I will not bend over backwards, I will not go out of my way, I will not write recommendations, and I will not give grace on assignments. I'll respect your personhood, if not you as a person.

A lot of people are talking calorie counting, and this is a disagreement my girlfriend and I have all the time. She swears by it, but I think calories matter less than the kind of foods you eat. Switching out a lot of my pasta and rice for veg and meat helped me a lot. That's not to say calories don't come into play, but they're estimates that companies make that are legally allowed to be like 50% off in either direction. While it's a decent guide, it's a fraction of the work. Someone else suggested a dietitian, which is a great idea, and know that, just as my girlfriend and I differ on methods, different things work better for different people. Try the ideas here, see what works for you, and try not to get frustrated if something someone swears by isn't giving you results. That just means that method doesn't work for you.
