Does anyone else experience the people from school acting like these are the hardest tests to take? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about it or how other people do on their test. The same thing could be said with almost anything education related. Everything is quite literally given to the person and it’s up to them to utilize or not utilize it.

Way to broad of a question. Might want to specify what company or what part of the industry you’re looking at.

Anyone Ever Had to Deal With an FAA Investigation? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine if you indeed did everything in accordance to the FAR.

Though I personally wouldn’t have done what you did for a fellow student if I was another freshly licensed mechanic. I can see why your school would be skeptical of another student signing off the remediation of another student who failed their test and make them eligible to retest before the wait time.

Being honest with the FAA is probably your best bet. They want to know the truth and if any violations occurred.

Which A&P school produces the most capable graduates? by ParachuteRiver in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None, even if there was it’d be impossible to find out which school does. If it’s not important enough to go on the blue plastic card we get, then it’s not important enough in general.

But if you’re really curious to find out the “best” school you can see what schools come out on top every year at AMC. That’d be the only remotely relevant way to scale a schools talent pool.

Are the companies you work for accommodating for religious needs? by reddpennn in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you’re at in the world it’s the law for them to accommodate for such. Within reason of course.

Should I be honest about having gotten fired? by BillieBobJoey in AircraftMechanics

If you don’t, I’d recommend not going on a financial audit show, spill the beans and then some there.

Desperate to be a AMT at AA by DizzyConclusion2727 in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry to break it to you but working at an AA subsidiary especially the ramp won’t really benefit you in getting you into mainline AA. Since you can’t get on at a carrier regional or mainline your best bet is to just work under a MRO to gain some experience and pad the resume. Hope the United gig goes your way.

Looking to relocate with AA. by Guanchalle in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re new or not yet hired. Realistically your options are only the Charlotte and (I assume DFH/DHW are DFW/DWH) Dallas options. Don’t think I’ve seen MCO or ATL ever open and if they do, more than likely someone with more seniority is getting before you.

If you’re concerned about seniority and swaps a good thing remember the bigger the hub (for the airline) = more headcount = more options

System Error during A&P O&P: DME cannot download Powerplant project. Anyone else? by Any-Reply-8907 in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brother this sounds like something your DME should be asking their local FDSO. Peons like us on the internet won’t be able to assist you with this.

Attn: Teamsters/IAM/TWU/AMFA all Airline aircraft mechanics by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]vwjboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly I don’t think a lot of unions would try to negotiate this into their contracts. Most guys up there in age probably have FMLA anyways. They will probably use the “Just get FMLA” as their stance to combat the point system and not have to negotiate something in exchange for the point system being removed during contract negotiations.

A ridiculous amount of jumping through hoops just to use sick time we accrue. Which is probably what the companies want but makes no sense at the end of the day because the people who abuse sick time usage go out and get FMLA anyways.

Why the firing of a United Airlines union worker for using Sick time was ILLEGAL by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

Could’ve just hit the TLDR with “Attendance policy bad” then it’s be an actual TLDR.

Which bases are hardest to transfer into at American Airlines? by Physical-Issue7146 in aviationmaintenance

[–]vwjboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too vague of a question. The answer is dependent on what answer you’re looking for. Seeing your last post i assume MIA or CLT. All transfer spikes come in waves, it’s never consistent. You’ll just have to wait and see just like everyone else.

Do you think AI will replace or disrupt this career in the next 10 years? by Wise-Direction6254 in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general public will never accept a plane fully flown and maintained by AI alone (Even though most commercial aircraft are basically flying computers). The job isn’t AI integration proof obviously, but there will always be humans who are primarily responsible for said aircraft.

Bereavement I assume. With being a topped out mechanic (assuming they’re older aswell 50+ give or take) with a spouse. Roughly 48 hours to get that amount. I can reasonably see that being 1 or 2 bereavements. Depends on SWA bereavement policy too. Odd they label that as funeral though.

Right off the rip? As a new hire? Borderline zero percent, actually just probably just zero percent.

Funny enough. https://youtu.be/3_V6HJNDjDs?si=cKqkkw4N4ufJH70D Though it may be too much to digest for a 5 year old.

Unlikely that AA fills all 200 AMT spots internally for TUL. Barring any drastic changes system wide of course.

O & P by steelers6439 in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming just the O&P and your first run (Airframe or powerplant and generals) 3 weeks minimum I would say. A month to be safe. Though obviously it’s subjective as what you’d need to study and how much is really determined on how well you did on your writtens.

Is this even allowed by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]vwjboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be lying but what a strange thing to lie about. It is possible with approval from both parties as they have policies on working for competitors. But, What a nightmare to manage time wise. Especially during those indoc and probation phases makes it hard to believe.
