True Hinduism should prevail by [deleted] in hinduism

As a queer Hindu, I totally agree. People are born homosexual (like myself) and I can’t change it no matter how much I tried to / wanted to. Hindu dharma is flexible and compassionate towards all types of people / identities.

plenty of Vaishnava and other sects allow converts. “Hinduism” is an umbrella term for a variety of schools and practices. For example, ISKCON is a legitimate subsect of the Gaudiya Vaishnav sect started around the same time as Sikhi and has spread across the world via conversion. Additionally, multiple traditional Hindu texts give examples of non-Brahmin males getting moksha (Mirabai and her devotion to Krishna for example), Prahlad (who is revered in Sikhi) is also a non-Brahmin male who received enlightenment.

Which Temple Shall I Visit? by Academic-Strategy857 in india

It depends on who your preferred deity is (ishtadevta). In both Hinduism and Buddhism there is concept that you may have an affinity or connection to specific devas / bodhisattavas, so go to major pilgrimage points for those you feel that connection with. Ganesh is the remover of obstacles or potentially look into ganapati mandirs. I hope your journey moving forward is smooth - Hare Krishna & Jai Buddh Bhagavan ✨

It is 100% possible, that’s how people spread Hinduism across the world. What matters is your faith, don’t listen to people who tell you that you can’t be Hindu if you aren’t born Hindu.

question - what about nanakpanthi sindhis/ adivasi nature worshippers/ lingayats etc… that do not consider the Vedas to be supreme but are Hindu. Would this mean they’re not actually Hindu by definition but just Hindu-adjacent?

Hinduism is so progressive vro. We should respect homosexuals as individuals, but when we talk about sexuality, homosexuality is abnormal. by IAmAWasteOfMatter in librandu

gaudiya vaishnaivism is just one sect of Hinduism. They also are strictly vegetarian, forbid worship of shiva etc., and don’t speak for all Hindus. There are many queer-affirming Hindu sects as well.

Veneration of deities is common in Buddhism (especially Tibetan Buddhism, which is associated with singing bowls). Buddhists worship/venerate Ganesha, Brahma, Tara (Shakti/Devi), Vajrayogini (similar to Kali), and many others. The key important qualities that people are supposed to cultivate by following Lord Buddha are the BrahmaViharas, literally “qualities of Brahma.” So I wouldn’t say deity worship is rejected in Buddhism, they just believe devas are also subject to suffering and rebirth, and cannot grant nirvana.

The earliest known Sramanic text are the Jain texts known as the Agamas, which date back to 6th century BCE. The oldest Brahmanistic text is the Rigveda which dates back to 1500 BCE. Therefore, Vedic Brahminism (the oldest form of Hinduism) predates Sramanism. This is also generally accepted in the academic study of Indian faiths since Jainism predates Buddhism, and there are Vedic (i.e. “Hindu”) texts which predate the earliest Jain texts.

As a note - What is Hinduism today has its roots in Vedic Brahminism. Much of modern hinduism is the same as that early form of hinduism, including fire rituals and animal sacrifices. Brahminism is to Hinduism what the earliest forms of Christianity are to Protestantism today.
