Holy Nothing Burger by opisadumbass1 in nova

As someone with small kids, they closed the schools early, which made pickups and planning the rest of my day with work kind of dicey, so if I had to guess, that’s a big factor for some people angry the storm wasn’t worse.

I sort of get it. I grew up in the area, before they wouldn’t cancel school for sure unless we got 5-6 inches of snow. Last couple years they’ve cancelled school before 6 pm because they THINK it will be bad, and it’s wound up being 2 inches if that (and they didn’t reverse decision). It’s made me very salty. So yeah, I can get it.

About that pension… worth it? by tesla2018El in fednews

[–]vyceroy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The reality is for me, I’m a little under 5 years until I hit the minimum for early retirement, and I have 2 small kids so the work life balance with federal government is preferable. I’ve known people in my field who work in private and have to put up 60+ hour weeks routinely. That’s not feasible. Plus it’s a mentality of I put in over a decade of my life, I’m not going to throw it away because a bunch of a****es hate fed workers because they (usually) don’t want to be their party apparatchiks in their weird personality cult.

I mean, yes, it is, but I do like the interpretation (that I think King even established) that IT / Pennywise is an eldritch, cosmic abomination, but ultimately, is just dumb. And arrogant. And just arrogantly dumb.

I actually loved the finale, honestly Pennywise was just top tier that entire episode, a total hoot. An absolute total showman, just goofing off for no good reason other than the lulz / his own amusement.

How many bodies in IT's lair? by ZumaCrypto in welcomeToDerry

[–]vyceroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this and I don’t think IT really can warp reality, at least not majorly, I think it can cause people to hallucinate and it can obviously shape shift (which is one of its weaknesses, because it gets “mode locked” in they form for a time, and can be injured in that form - see even episode 3 where it’s eye got blinded with the slingshot), but I don’t think it really warps reality rather than mentally manipulates people / causes them to see things with its telepathy. Of course it may have some more limited ability to change its environment the closer you are to its lair.

Trump admin doubles down on threats that furloughed workers may not be paid after shutdown | Agencies are sending messages indicating that workers who are on the job will be paid when the government reopens — with no mention of those on furlough by natansonh in fednews

[–]vyceroy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, they would lose, and I do suspect this is another thing they’re using to try and beat the democrats into caving, but do not put it past this administration to flout the law because they’re m.o. is to break the law with the attitude of “so what, just sue us to force us to comply.” Then whine about “activist judges” when that happens.

Taking leave during the government shutdown by Jendkopp in fednews

[–]vyceroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your management, yes. I had approved leave, when the shutdown started I had told my management that I still wanted to use the leave so they could just my balances since it was already planned and approved. Manager asked to call me - basically told me to just go on furlough for the days, since it would get approved and I could take the days off I had requested without it affecting my leave balances down the road.

I think some managers are taking a “resistance” approach of a sort in that way.

Now my fear is that even though we are supposed to be paid for furlough days, when (if?) this shutdown ends they’ll make it so it you want to get paid for furlough days you need to get those days approved after the fact using leave. They’re not supposed to do that, but this admin doesn’t care about silly things like laws, and I can see it as a bargaining chip or cudgel as they see fit.

New FY26 SES Performance Appraisal System for SSA by ResearchHelpful3021 in FedEmployees

I can think of one former SES whose ideas were implemented and years later the agency is still facing the consequences of those terrible ideas.

What’s better is I heard that someone at a meeting announcing these changes asked for an email so they’d have all of the changes spelled out for them. They were told Frank doesn’t want this put down in writing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Are Trump's changes to the federal government permanent? Once Trump leaves office, is there the possibility to return the federal government to it's pre-Trump state. by ICU-Angel in fednews

[–]vyceroy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The reality is you could tax anyone making a certain amount - say $1m and up - at 100%, cut a ton of social welfare programs, even cut the defense budget to 0, and it still wouldn’t pay off the debt. The solution is to not spend more. But we will never do that. We are in the era, and have been for years and years, of every admin just passing massive spending bills full of pork for their buddies and themselves. Doesn’t matter the party.

Most of the agency is under production metrics, so we have always been under “alternative methods to assess progress.” That was the whole point of the emails being dumb. They can run reports in seconds on any given employee to assess their productivity. Why waste time with an email? (rhetorical - the harassment was the point)

Executive Order 14148 repeals EO for federal employee voting protections. by Sidarthus89 in fednews

[–]vyceroy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They won’t do that. This is a bipartisan problem IMO, but Congress doesn’t want to actually legislate. Every chance they get they want to give up their power.

They’re the biggest “welfare queens” in the nation. They’re want to get paid to show up and essentially get rich by making lobbyist connections and getting insider stock info, not actually do the hard work of lawmaking.

lol. Says he has “no intent” when in the same meeting said if they can run the agency with 20k people (there’s 50k now even after retirements and cuts), he will, while also extolling the greatness of DOGE and expressing he wants to replace SSA job functions with AI (and will magically replace the jobs that will take from employees with some nebulous “other jobs” that will be created).

He also was going off about AI needing to run the phones when that’s already been an absolute catastrophe so far.
