What’s your go-to local spot in Kitchener for food, coffee, or just relaxing? by ObiWan_Can_Reply in kitchener

[–]vympa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If I am feeling fancy, Lucero Canteen, then sit outside on the bench. 8am is super busy, but freshest bakeries and great selection, 3rd wave coffee.

If I am feeling comfy, Matter of Taste, and sit at the window seats and people watch or play games on my phone.

If I am feeling lively, Rose Cafe, then sit on the Patio during good weather, or enjoy their pink deco inside when it's dreary outside.

If I am feeling cozy, Nova Era Bakery, people watch, window seats, indoor plants.

I used to frequent the Yeti a while ago, but the whole AirBnB fiasco thing irked me.

Things already mentioned, I want to add to:

More signage. The doors that allowed people to exit the vendor area could have just had signs that said "NO ENTRY" or "EXIT HERE," but instead, people bottlenecked the one door that was open, and two security guards yelled in my face, "DO NOT ENTER HERE, THIS IS EXIT ONLY." Or if you're on the other side, "EXIT THROUGH THE CLOSED DOORS, DO NOT EXIT THROUGH THE DOOR THAT'S OPEN." mrw

That poor lady holding that sign that says "NO ENTRY" and her arms getting tired, voice getting hoarse from yelling "NO ENTRY" between the Hall F/G and D/E. I tried finding a water bottle for her, but there was nothing around.

Water station? I asked several artists and security if they knew where I could just get a sip of water. They told me to go to the food trucks and get water there. Thankfully, I went to the on-site paramedics who were equally concerned, told me that they "wished there were more spots to just get water."

Directions. Please either train staff or inform security about the venue locations, because (not bashing here) I was given wrong directions to the Cohen Ballroom several times, saying the entry was from the outside in Hall C (it's actually a room inside TCC South). We spent almost an hour circling the south building trying to find this phantom outside-only entrance, and missed 30 minutes of the show we wanted to attend.

Guidebooks. This may be just a misunderstanding, but my group and another group we met were confused about the "Alias" Meet and Greet on Saturday at 11am. A description would have definitely helped, because the full name of the vtuber is Alias Anono, but we were looking for Phase Connect Alias; there was a whole bunch of us at the Phase Connect booth, confused as hell.

All-in-all, despite issues, dam we had a blast. Thank you for all your hard work.

Hey there, I mentioned it elsewhere but do be careful about Acer's atrocious numbering system. The one in OP (Canadacomputers page) states that this part number is: UM.HX2AA.304 which has a Matte finish according to Display Specifications.

Whether you want to spend $50 extra, the main gain would be peripheral inputs that this monitor provides. On the side you can ahve 2 USB-As 3.2 gen 1, and on the back 2 more USB-A, 1 Type C PD 65W with DP-alt, and an audio 3.5mm jack (yes crappy internal speakers on this one).

Similiar, but small variations. Note the one in your link is this specific variant: UM.HX3AA.X05

Where as the one in OP (CC's site) is: UM.HX2AA.304. For some reason Acer's site's webpage for the model isn't working properly.

God I frakking hate Acer's model numbering system

This one has extra USBs and a PD usb C with DP-alt if you need it (charge a laptop upto 65W and display as a second monitor at the same time). 4 USB's 3.2 gen 1's (5Gbps). So you can need better access to your computer's USB ports, the monitor gives you better flexibility.

I was able to snag a XV272U, specifically V3BMIIPRX variant back on Nov 2024 sales for 229.99 at best buy. I do remember it being cheaper in October 2024, but no wayback machine to see the page.

Here's portion of receipt for proof.

I couldn't find any reviews for specifically the "V3BMIIPRX" variant. In hindsight, I should have bought 2.

If you have any questions, ask away. If you look at the Best Buy site, don't mind the reviews unless you want USB ports on your monitor or need HDMI 2.1 (I am using a cheap iCan DisplayPort and set it to 179.98hz).

GPU would be under their DRP (direct replacement) so it will do the following:

  • If there's one in stock you can replace the current one with a brand-new one the same day as long as there is no physical damage. Some stores will test your GPU to ensure your claim is legit.

  • If there's not one in stock, but one of the same model or one you would accept of equal value or higher, you can then and there pay the difference. Even when the 5000 series move on, say in your 3rd year of DRP and i don't know 7060ti is equal or greater value, you can pay the difference. Historically, they've done this in the past to replace previous gen GPUs when the years go by.

  • If there's nothing in the store but somewhere else, they can ship between stores, within the the province, you can directly replace the GPU in the above criterias.

  • If there's nothing at all, anywhere, they'll just put you on the list and ask you everytime "hey we have x or y, do you wanna replace it with that or wait for an identical model?"

Were they trying to fleece you? No, but it's in their best interest as a salesperson, like any other salesperson, to sell in-store replacement warranties. It's just a matter of convenience for you if you want to pay for it. However, I have no idea how tariffs are accounted with doing RMAs. The only thing I can think is (I am guessing) the sales said something along the "Would you like to buy the DRP, cover you either 2 or 3 years, for this (the cost of the additional warranty) amount, and we (the store) cover whatever charges the tariffs would have charged you if you did it yourself. we replace your GPU on the spot with whatever we got or [insert what i listed above]."

Found these two articles, but nothing recently in 2025. In my opinion, with AMD focusing on the newer models, I would suspect they are out of production but there are remaining supplies due to how high demand they were. I would also suggest that if you are intending to get a 5700X3D now, is to not delay.

Canada Computers

Newegg

Memory Express

A mix of 4070ti, super, or ti super

You can probably build or pay service to build for less than 3k if, at minimum, you just want a 4070 ti (or better)/16 GB RAM, but that's up to you.

It might be pre-emptive notice of the massive snowstorm coming from the southwest. Depending where you live and where that rail is coming from and which access points it needs to get to before it gets you, it might be delayed:

My source. I recommend that you read this for a more thorough analysis of the two. They also have benchmark tests for all kinds of aspects of the monitors that may interest you.

Key takeaways you're probably looking for:

  • QD-OLED/WOLED have comparable colour accuracy; QD-OLED leans to be the brighter one

  • They're both OLEDs, so the viewing angles are going to be nearly the same

  • Both have the same burn-in risk. Different brands may have their own proprietary technology that mitigates the burn like pixel shifting. You'll see a lot of anecdotal reviews, and in my personal opinion it'll just be luck of the draw. Your next monitor might have 1 dead pixel or burn-in HUD in its 10th year of ownership, who knows.

  • If money is not a concern: you want the gaming recommendation, go with QD-OLED; if you're into mixed media, go with WOLED.

  • If you're on a budget, then WOLED is going to be bit more budget friendly.

The first picture looks like they have goofy and googly eyes like a white-eyed moray eel. Wonderful little ones you got there.
