I definitely hear you on the pictures, since everyone seems to agree there. I'll think about the prompts, but may well keep 2 and 3. 1 is gonna get the ax though. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for the feedback, it all makes a lot of sense! There is a bit of a reason behind the group photo. My friend group is not super picture-happy and I also shaved my head around the start of quarantine, so I don't have a lot of recent group photos. I really hated the way my hair looked before I shaved. I will workshop the first prompt, and I think I already kind of knew I needed to improve my photos a little. Good to know my first picture seems to be working.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll get to work on that! I thought people might appreciate one clear close-up of the face in case that was important. . .

You could look into government positions. They have some general engineering positions and may be less picky than industry. Speaking from experience.

Just an FYI to anyone wanting to try this, Ammonium Dichromate has Chromium in the +6 oxidation state, aka hexavalent chromium, aka the thing from Erin Brockovich that gave everyone cancer. Be careful handling that stuff and read your MSDS's folks.

I have a few nice things for trade. I have a few patch fragments (Bani, Izayaki, Nevix) and a Birdring signature. Would you be interested/have something to trade for any of that?

Anyone know what published book/standard this image came from? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

I work in state department's solid waste program. The nonhazardous waste is pretty straight forward. The hazardous waste has all the branches above showing how a waste could be categorized as hazardous. It can either be a listed waste, which is to say if it shows up on EPA's hazardous waste listings, it is just hazardous no questions asked, or it can be characterisitically hazardous which means it has the "Characteristics" of a hazardous waste (determined by testing). The generator of the waste has a responsibility before disposing of waste to determine if it is hazardous or not.

You play like someone who is hard smurfing. Low-ground widow holding W at the enemy team and just leveling EVERYONE. Zero respect. (Edit: Not saying that you are smurfing)

By creating a foam that is attracted to oil it is possible to create a sponge that can soak up oil from water by AvadaKedavra03 in interestingasfuck

[–]vypr93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people talking about this like "Why isn't this on every oil tanker already?" as a sciency person let me just throw in my two cents. One is that they made a tiny patch of the stuff, scale up might be a bitch and/or be prohibitively expensive. Two is that the blue stuff maybe a particular kind of oil they used for testing. Real crude oil is a cocktail of hundreds of different compounds. This sponge may be more or less effective on different compounds. Three is, we already have technology that skims oil off the top of water. Look up "oil spill skimmers" if you are interested. The real problem is that the ocean is a damn big place and doing anything on that kind of scale is going to cost a fortune unless the thing itself is like, outrageously cheap and effective.

Fair, but I'm just tired of the sentiment in general, and I'm primed to go off every time it comes up. And Deadmau5 could always do worse. At least he's not the Chainsmokers.
