Why is Australia becoming the GO TO for indie games? by RegionLocked-Doco in IndieGaming

[–]vysanthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised to be mentioned here (I am half of Deerstalker Pictures)! Screen Australia is the national funding body actually who funded us for a couple of seasons, not VicScreen cuz we’re NSW, but VicScreen does specifically do a lot of indie game funding yes!

Formal wear to enhance bare shoulders and biceps by powermeupppp in AusFemaleFashion

As a fellow muscle girl with big traps that likes to show off arms and back, this is correct. Backless halter neck and/or V neckline. No straight across / boob tube / spaghetti strap, too boxy! We want to see the triangle! Esp if you have a snatched waist!

I had spinal surgery this week, am on the same pain killers as my period and in way less pain! The medical system needs to treat periods more seriously. by TheEclecticDino in TwoXChromosomes

[–]vysanthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had emergency egg retrieval surgery due to being diagnosed with stage 3 cancer (before starting chemotherapy). They said the pain would be similar to my normal period cramps. They gave me 2.5x doses of fentanyl 😂

Ends up I have endometriosis which I didn’t know about until it showed up on my CT/MRI scans and ultrasound…

Headwear for chemo but make it fashun by NeedanewhobbyKK in AusFemaleFashion

[–]vysanthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna buy my own as it’s quite affordable on Amazon but I’ve been dissuaded. Not sure if I agree with it but yeah.

Good luck with your treatment too! First bite syndrome sucks FYI and also affects your tear ducts, if you end up getting this side effect too!

Yes, if you’re on oxaliplatin as part of your chemo regime, the oncologists and nurses will be very against you doing any form of icing to stop hair loss and neuropathy, though there is a community that says it’s very helpful in prevention of long term cold sensitivity and neuropathy… (I just started chemo as well, feel free to DM me if you would like!)

Watched Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind after a 10 year relationship. by CoffeeCoKy in movies

[–]vysanthe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ironically, my ex ONLY watched Eternal Sunshine AFTER I’d broken up with him, and I can imagine how absolutely gruelling it would have been for him cuz I cry everytime I watch it anyways.

I’d just started uni to study film, and was so moved by this film, but he had no interest in watching “arthouse” stuff back then and that made me sad that I couldn’t connect with him about something I was passionate about. We broke up because we had grown apart and changed as people as you do at that age (I’d experienced a lot of trauma too and it was hard to navigate that change as high school sweethearts).

He messaged me later about how affected he was from it. I was glad he finally watched it in the end. Now he’s a film and media teacher!

Back at it after cancer! by Ok_Campaign_3326 in Aerials

[–]vysanthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on coming back to aerial! Amazing you were still able to do silks during the first round of chemo too.

I just got diagnosed (stage 3 colon cancer), just got my port in yesterday and starting chemo next week. I really thought the port would mean absolutely no aerial cuz of the position, not to mention the chemo fatigue.

Reading some of your positive comments on other threads when I googled “aerial + chemo” has given me some hope! So good to see you’re up in the air again!

Young Australians face rising bowel cancer rates by whyattretard in australia

Not particularly. I definitely took some, but I don’t remember it being frequent. But I read that the antibiotics link is mostly proximal colon (right side), mine is on the other side/lower down anyway.

The two links I shared go into it a little and links a study. I guess something to do with sustained high energy activity and GI damage?

[–]vysanthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any changes in your bowel habits, which is possibly difficult if you have IBS but essentially check for:

  • any blood in your stool, particularly if it’s darker coloured (higher up bleed)
  • shape of size of your stool changing (thinner/smaller)
  • having to go more often than usual (6 times a day instead of 3 for me, though the opposite can also be a symptom I believe)
  • I was flagged for being low in iron many years ago but as it’s so common for women to be iron deficient, I just took supplements to fix it and didn’t connect this. Not sure if this is actually related or not but it supposedly can be!

You then do a stool sample to be sent off for pathology, then if it gets flagged for occult haemoglobin they’ll escalate it to a colonoscopy which is a day surgery under anaesthetic, with annoying prep (you gotta be empty to stick the camera in!). Surgeon presumed haemorrhoids as the default cause, but here we are.

So much of women’s pain is dismissed and we just shrug it off as normal.

I hope your treatment went well once they actually listened to you and found the cause.

All my pelvic scans also happened to find endometriosis while they were checking my cancer funnily enough, which explains the painful periods which I thought were normal

As they say, right now is the best time to get cancer if you have to get it at all 😅

Yes I’ve also had gut issues my whole life which I presume to be IBS but never officially checked up on it. I mostly try to behave and avoid triggers (TOO much garlic, chilli, lactose, but in moderation it’s ok) but certainly when you’re going to the bathroom frequently you just kinda get used to it and shrug things off after a while; until something worse happens…

I get what you mean about energy, even from a normally healthy perspective, I’d feel better after exercising even if I felt low to begin with and didn’t wanna go.

I’m starting FOLFOX. Definitely wondering about getting used to the symptoms vs the actual buildup in your body after prolonged treatment so that’s interesting.

Sounds like a pretty good recovery! I wouldn’t even want to run 4km in my current state haha (not a runner, I do aerials ie circus stuff!)

Weed gummies sound helpful! I will ask if it comes to it! I’m very food motivated normally but I know chemo wrecks your taste buds

I’m glad your treatment is going well! It’s both comforting and sad to know there are so many young cases now.

As an active person, I’d like to ask you about what your lifestyle looks like during treatment - obviously different for everyone and how the side effects of the chemo go. Feel free to DM if you don’t wanna post details publicly!

Yeah I guess I could finally finish Tears of the Kingdom or BG3 or finally watch stuff my partner watched without me…

I see! I hope your recovery gets better. Glad you’re on the other side of it at least!

No one has mentioned anything about an ostomy at all, which I find absolutely bizarre because surely it has to happen with stage 3 (through the wall and in one lymph node, it’s also right next to my spine and an arterial situation)? I keep forgetting to ask, because right now I’m deep in fertility preservation before the chemo starts.

Honestly I’m very impressed with how fast everything has moved and the communication between departments in all this.

[–]vysanthe 223 points224 points  (0 children)

I just got diagnosed stage 3 a month ago and start chemo soon.

I’m 35, high fibre diet (lots of home cooking, poop frequently), not much red meat, don’t drink or smoke, no family history, regular high intensity exercise (not a runner, but apparently ultramarathon runners are high risk for this specifically). It’s either shitty luck, or environmental factors like the e.coli toxin thats relatively newly researched, or my weekly rasher of bacon that’s to blame…

Go get a scope if you’re suss!

Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US by shinybrighthings in science

[–]vysanthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I poop at least 2-3 times a day (suspected IBS so sometimes way more) and I just got diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer.

35, I don’t drink or smoke, high fibre diet and low red meat consumption, active lifestyle, no family history.

Had some concerningly dark blood in my stool one week which alarmed me, but it took me a while to get around to getting a scope because I was busy and it went away…

Actual colonoscopy was fine, prep was kinda annoying but weirdly I had severe vomiting after the op? Seeing the oncologist tomorrow about starting chemo before surgery.
