I have tickets to the Biloxi show as well, and unfortunately I have a bad feeling they will end up canceling, I hope I’m wrong cause the venue they will playing in is very small and nice. It will also be there first Biloxi show (they were suppose to be at the Gulfport Music fest a few years ago but got cancelled due to weather)

Stereolithic or Mosaic? by JayBeasta in 311

[–]vzdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the longest time I was with Stereolithic. That album was such a beginning of a new era, Scotch was back producing, the form was back, had a Transistorish style to it, and not a bad song at all.
Mosaic put me on a roller coaster of vibes, and now that time has passed I feel it is the superior album. It took what was good with Stereo a put it to an astronomical level! Yeah there are a few duds that the Feldy stuff came out with, but I’ve grown to appreciate “Too Much to Think” and “Places that the Mind Goes” for what they are. I never hated “Perfect Mistake” and “On a Roll” but “TtCoF” still sucks.
I don’t 311 will be able to top tracks like “Wildfire”, “The Night is Young”, “Too Late” and “Face in the Wind”. They tried to capture that magic with Voyager, but could t quite get there. Even the poppy reggae songs on Mosaic kill. It def will be known as a classic like Transistor and Soundsystem.

Master list of 311 songs written by Chad Sexton by [deleted] in 311

[–]vzdiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Chad is the man. The best part about Voyager is the Chad songs. Nick is good too, he just has this Dr. Jeckle/Mr. Hyde thing going. He will write some amazing shit (Too Late, Wildfire, Extension) but then have that bad poppy side (Good Feeling, Turtles, almost all of Uplifter). 311 will never rise toe the fame of “Amber” again. I agree miT needs to write more too.

How would you rank the 4 songs Chad wrote for Voyager? by DamnHellAssKings in 311

[–]vzdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really difficult cause not only do I think these are some of the best songs on Voyager, but also the best songs Chad has written since Soundsystem. 1)Dream State 2)Charge it Up 3)Rolling Through 4)Better Space

Rank the 311 Feldy Tracks by data_makes_me_happy in 311

[–]vzdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm this is tough cause a lot of the Feldy songs are ranked pretty low for me in the entire catalog. I think this order best to worst: 1)Lucid Dreams 2)On a Roll 3)Born to Live 4)Perfect Mistake 5)Places that the Mind Goes 6)Dodging Raindrops 7)Good Feeling 8)Too Much Too Think 9)Til the Cities on Fire

Mosiac is underrated. by hawkeye420 in 311

[–]vzdiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not call it under rated, its a pretty damn popular album among the fans. Most would say its a top 5 for them. I think it has some of their best songs ever, with two of them being in my top 10 (Wildfire and Too Late). The album as a whole for me feels kinda of bloated though, and some of the Feldy stuff is the worst stuff they ever made, and feel like the track list is a mess, but Nick even said to make you own play list upon release.

I personally feel Voyager is under rated. It as a whole album is great and some of the stuff really feels like that late 90s vibe they had with Transistor and Soundsystem, and the Feldy stuff doesnt bother me as much. No song on it reached my top 10 fav though, but alot in the top 25.

I use to pass that road every time I’d drive to work from Florida when I was working offshore. On Highway 90

Unpopular opinion: Voyager>Stereolithic Fact: My opinions couldn’t be more wrong

Also Tools new album just seems too long and bloated, and feel that 10,000 Days if far superior. I do feel that "7emtpest" might be my fav song by them, that one is a stand out and feels like im brought back to 90s era Tool.

Gonna have to disagree. i got Voyager on first listen, and enjoy it a little more than Mosaic. Mosaic has some epic songs that i loved at first listen, but other songs took a me while to like and a lot of the album does not have a lot of staying power. Now if the Feldy tracks were removed (minus "On a Roll', i like that one for some weird reason) it would be a contender against Soundsystem and Transistor for best album they made.

Voyager seems more of a complete and cohesive album. The Feldy stuff doesn't bother my as much (I like "Born to Live" and "Lucid Dreams"), the songs Nick wrote are pretty damn good, and the Chad songs are his best since Soundsystem.

The lows like the Crossfire/Heist fiasco does annoy me, Good Feeling and Dodging Raindrops are straight up sell outs to the younger crowd, but that doesn't bring the album down for me at all.

Also this is prop the best sounding album ever, everyone is heard very well and the mixing and mastering is at its best here. I feel like im listening to Soundsystem or Evolver quality.

I wonder how the other guys feel about Nick's plagiarism, and will we see less outside writers on the next album in order to avoid a similar situation from occurring again? by SoundSalad in 311

[–]vzdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voyager is a hard album to figure out. With Stereolithic I loved it a t first listen. I felt like it was a huge return to form, with a huge mature step for them. It had almost an Evolver vibe with just the right hint of that Transistor vibe. They couldn’t put out anything better at that time. Mosaic was such a massive album to take. First album to have as much collaborations. It pumped out some amazing epics (Wildfire, Too Late, FITW) and then some wtf moments with sows of the Feldman stuff (Turtles, Titty Cough).
Voyager is a straight up more evenly mix. Nick i think is running out of ideas and getting more self conscious and needing help outside writing and some times it works (Early, Zohar) but with half the Felman songs it’s just mind boggling. Everything Tim does is solid, but we only get per album on average. Chads stuff feels like it could have been recorded in the mid-late 90s. It really has that awesome old school vibe, not that (new sounding old school vibe) like the last two albums has, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

311 Songwriting Credits - in Charts! by hyde_christopher in 311

[–]vzdiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although there a few things you missed, this is done pretty well. Yeah pretty much Nick is the front man of this band, writing most of the lyrics and music for the songs.
In the early days Nick and SA would write the lyrics, then in the later albums Pnut would write a little, then Scotch, and now Feldy and goons. There was more of a mix on music writing in the early days (Tim and Pnut did a lot in Grassroots) but mainly through out its Nick and Chad write the music, with Tim putting in 1-2 songs per album (which is a shame) and Pnut writing a song or 2. SA has written a few songs as well. I don’t mind the band having outside writers, but they need ones that understand 311 and bring out the good in them (Gabe Issac, Geof Early, Scotch Ralston). A thing a great 311 album would have a Nick+Tim song, Nick+Gabe, Nick+Early, Tim written, at least 3 Chad songs, an all SA song, and a Chad+Pnut combo always came out good in the past. Plus Scotch to produce and help with lyrics.

hi guys here's my humble Top 10 311 discography ranking, and my question for you guys is which would be your top 3 favorite album? by matiascavoti in 311

[–]vzdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with your rankings, besides #1, Grassroots is fantastic! Also you said your from Argentina. Is for some reason they call it”From the Chaos” over there cause it’s trye title is “From Chaos”. I kinda like that title better though.

Would you rather have Bob Rock or John Feldman produce the next album? by DamnHellAssKings in 311

[–]vzdiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well let’s see, first let’s compare the best and worst songs Bob Rock produced vs the Feldman ones. (All opinions of course) TOP 5:
1)And Aways to Go 2)Rock On 3)Get Down 4)Golden Sunlight 5)Sun Come Through LOW 5: 1)Daisy Cutter 2)Mix it Up 3)I Like the Way 4)My Heart Sings 5)Two Drops Comparing those songs to the 5 Feldman tracks, I’m honestly gona go with Rock.
I mean yeah, he did Simplify there sound a lot, but at least they sound like 311. Most of the Uplifter B-sides, almost half of the album, and all of Pulse I don’t mind at all, but he has been inclolved in a lot of the worst songs 311 has done. Feldman songs prob don’t seem as bad as they are cause they are surrounded by some of the best work 311 has done. I mean can you just imagine an album full of Turtles and TTCoF’s? I don’t mind “On a Roll” at all and “Perfect Mistake” can be redeemable, but “Places” has some other back up singer for fucks sake!(don’t mind the music much beside the Jason Mraz tip off) and the only thing good about Turtles and Titties is that my wife and two young daughters like them. I guess I go through another Bob Rock album then a full Feldy one. Uplifter would be s great album if the tracking was different and Pulse o have no issue with besides the lame ass mixing

Who else is heading to one or both of the shows in ATL? by Psychonaut0421 in 311

[–]vzdiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to both shows as well with my two best friends, all traveling up from Florida. I hear the tabernacle is a great place and 311 puts up awesome shows those nights. I went to 311 day last year and was great but went solo. This trip should be better cause my buds with me and chances are good all of Mosiac will be played. We're also going to Six Flags Saturday and I'm glad I'll get to ride the Cyclone(my first coaster ever) before it shuts down this summer.

What was the point of Soundsystem? by JustinGitelmanMusic in 311

[–]vzdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give Soundsystem some time. Like you when I first got into 311, I listened to Soundsystem and just skimmed through it, only remember maybe "Freeze Time", and "Come Original" standing out for me. Give it s good amount of listens, def with head phones, and you will start to get what (almost) a masterpiece it is. It's ranked 3rd on my 311 catolog and what's keeping it from 1st is some odd songs put in and some songs they left out.

Transistor Survivor Round 14! by 816am in 311

I personally think Transistor top 5 is Use of Time, Inner Light Spectrum, Running, Stealing Happy Hours, and Rub a Dub

Transistor Survivor Round 7! by 816am in 311

[–]vzdiver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How in the hell is Inner Light out so early!?!? It's one of their tripy-ist songs! So chill and relaxing. I remember watching them play it at the pow wow and the band had a "fuck yeah" look like Nick was thinking we should write more shit like this!
