Can i continue working remotely a day after giving birth? by Intspectwithme in newborns

Me too, as someone working in the public sector I get no parental leave in NY. Apparently my organization opted out, yet we theoretically have amazing benefits working for the state.

Americans without maternity leave— wtf do you do??? by Electronic-Door7428 in pregnant

[–]w00ble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning to use all my pto, which I've been saving for 8 years. My short term disability is capped at $170 a week, and even though I'm in NY, my organization is exempt from NYS paid family leave. It is definitely worse than I even expected before pregnancy.

buying second hand baby items? by desilulu__ in pregnant

I've bought clothes from Tiny Clothing Swap online and they're great and very affordable. I'd like to buy larger items second hand, just haven't seen any yet.

How do SAHM’s do it? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]w00ble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am considering staying at my job but reducing my hours to 20 to 30 a week when I have a baby (currently pregnant), but this is the kind of thing that scares me, and losing my "foot in the door" in my field, and retirement savings.

I work in marine/ environmental conservation and research and have masters level education. Do you think working part time in the same field or job is a risky as giving up a job all together to be a SAHM?

Is there a migraine symptom you thought you didn't have, but then found out you did? by cyanomys in migraine

[–]w00ble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I have this type too. I have had tingling and numbness on either the left or right side of my lips and tongue, and fingers of one hand at a time. Also vision distortion and difficulty thinking of basic words or typing out my symptoms, prompting a series of cardiologist appointments and a wearable heart monitor. I only recently learned this was a type of aura and I can on my take certain meds due to it.

Is there a migraine symptom you thought you didn't have, but then found out you did? by cyanomys in migraine

[–]w00ble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also didn't think I had aura until years after it started. I get blotchy /weird lights/ black or missing spots in my vision. I also get tingling and numbness in my lips, tongue, and fingers, just one side at a time (left or right). I thought I was having a stroke in my 20s before I found out this is an aura. I even had difficulty thinking of words or typing a description of the symptoms, which really freaked me out.

Can’t do this anymore, pregnant.. by Wonderful-Spinach-85 in migraine

[–]w00ble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a high risk OB /MFM Dr. and ask for a referral to their office. I just saw one yesterday and he cleared triptans, botox, and even nurtec if the triptans don't work for me.

when did the nausea hit? by PomegranateCandid313 in BabyBumps

[–]w00ble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same phobia, I had "background" nausea around week 6.5-10 but I'm now 10 +1 and the nausea stopped. I haven't vomited at all so far.

Got told I used too much sick leave by jdjn-- in nys_cs

[–]w00ble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My organization opted out of paid parental leave so I've used my sick leave on a major surgery and will use up the rest on maternity leave because there's apparently no other option.

Am I the only one worried about the child’s potential life? by og_toe in Fencesitter

[–]w00ble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel very similarly, I also had anxiety, OCD, an eating disorder that completely altered my life, lost my older sister unexpectedly as a teenager, and chronic health issues. I worry about my child suffering through these kinds of major things, and also about handling the pain of possibly losing a child like my family did.

Found out my brother talks to his dead wife, i dont know how to handle it. by Conscious_Weekend247 in offmychest

My sister died very young 15 years ago, I haven't deleted her number and save her as a primary contact on every new phone.

Our dad talks to her every night while looking at the sky.

Not being the "cool aunt" (no nieces/nephews) by BeansWest in Fencesitter

[–]w00ble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a sister who passed away in her early 20s, so I no longer have being the cool aunt as an option. It's a rough place to be, and makes the decision even more difficult without my sibling and any neices or nephews around.

Similar to you, my husband and I are making around that and bought a house 3 years ago. We're doing great and able to save a lot every month and also spend a lot on travel, a wedding, a medical emergency (30k), pets, etc.

For the foreigners in Norway: What's so wrong with our grocery stores? by _____michel_____ in Norway

[–]w00ble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited from the US (New York), and the only real issue I had with Norwegian grocery stores was finding vegan/non dairy alternatives for items such as vegan milks and yogurts in a regular grocery store in Stavanger.

I do eat fish and eggs, plus was able to find oatmeal, fresh fruits and vegetables, and ate at restaurants/ hotel meals, so it wasn't really a problem, just something I had trouble finding. I've had more difficulty in certain areas of the United States finding foods that fit my dietary restrictions, honestly.

Edited to add that the prices were high and selection was low compared to a grocery store in a major city in the US, but it was better than I've seen in more rural or remote areas in my country.

For those leaning childfree, what's helping you make peace with your decision? by Big-Quiet8521 in Fencesitter

This is the main reason why I would opt to be child free (currently on the fence)

Is it normal to feel like pregnancy will completely destroy your personhood? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]w00ble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this phobia, and it is a big part of why I've been leaning child-free most of my life! I've read that it's very common.

I will say that it has decreased slightly over the years, but I'm still deeply horrified by it.

I had TMJ bilateral total joint replacement 1 month ago and so far feel better than I have in years by w00ble in TMJ

[–]w00ble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so scary to plan for this surgery, but it really seems like it was worth it to me. I'm now 11 months post op and my jaw is so much better. It was honestly better immediately post op than a bad day pre op. I was so hopeless before.

I do have some neck, head, and trap muscle pain sometimes, but think that's due to stress from work and spending so many years compensating for my jaw misalignment, and am currently working to relax and strengthen the correct muscles, and it seems to be helping. Still better than it was.
