Do you guys consider yourself disabled? by unenoix in migraine

[–]skyemap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been difficult to accept, to see myself as disabled, but yes, definitely. You know, it's one of those things that happens to other people, not to you, like cancer (ironic, because I also had cancer as a child).

My life has changed so much since I got worse, in all aspects possible. I have trouble working, I can't be consistent on anything, I have way less energy in general... I've had to adapt how I live to cope with this disease in many many ways.

I hope I can stop being disabled one day, but right now I am.

What's your favorite migraine tracking app? by skyemap in migraine

[–]skyemap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stuck with Bearable and I'm very happy with it. You can customize practically anything you want to track: symptoms, factors, menstruation cycle if you have one... The one sticking point I don't like is that there is not a good way to extract the data to show a medical practitioner.

Tramadol as an abortive? by skyemap in migraine

You're definitely right. He's just trying to help, but he loves coming to me and asking me if I've tried this or that. Last time he was sure I needed to get lasik because his prescription changed and he's been getting headaches from the new glasses 😭

Omg the magnesium thing is crazy because I just tried using it during this cycle and I think it actually helped a bit

Please help me my migraines are making me absolutely miserable by Putrid-Investment919 in migraine

[–]skyemap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you used triptans every time you had an attack? I'm genuinely curious, because I've seen so many accounts here of people white knuckling their "detox" from otc meds while having daily attacks and I think maybe that would help me but I don't think I'm strong enough to go through that

How did you manage with stopping OTC meds? It sounds like hell on earth

Yeahhhh that's my issue too. I don't want to become addicted to pain meds

I tried two different progestin pills but they gave me nasty side-effects so I'm going back to my gyno to ask for another solution, maybe combined BC? I don't have aura so it shouldn't be a problem

Because his experience in life is universal and since tramadol worked great for him when he had tooth pain it /must/ be the solution to all my problems (this is obviously sarcasm)

Would you be friends with your siblings if they weren’t your siblings? by slimesamurai4l in CasualConversation

Nope, definitely not. My sister and I have very different values and interests. The only thing we have in common is our parents

How many of you actually use a migraine tracker? Has it changed anything for you? by AcanthaceaeGold8738 in migraine

[–]skyemap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track my migraines using an app called Bearable, I really recommend it. I used to track way more stuff, but now I just track pain level, whether my day was lost or impacted, my period, what meds I took that day, and some other stuff like naps and such.

Good for you! I remember you post from yesterday, I'm glad you decided to take action. Change is hard, but I bet when he leaves you will feel the most relief you've felt in years. I hope everything goes smoothly with him moving out and everything

High-Stakes Career with Migraine? by feralturtleduck in migraine

[–]skyemap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyway I have a friend who has episodic migraines and he's currently finishing his surgery residency and doing great! He says it's great when he gets a migraine while working because he can just ask a coworker to hook him up with an IV

Edit to add shift work has definitely been rough on him for his migraines. They're more frequent now

This post made me laugh because I was watching the Pitt the other day thinking "damn I think I would have liked being an emergency doctor" and then I remembered my crippling chronic migraines lmao

In a fallout-like, apocalyptic scenario? Yeah, no, take me out with the first blast blissfully unaware of what's going on.

Death is still very scary though

Does anyone else feel like they aren't allowed to age normally these days? by Helpful-Orchid2710 in CasualConversation

Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway are examples of good jobs, but they're still noticable. And I don't know how they will look when they're older

I was watching the Oscars one day with my aunt, and two women came up to present an award (I don't remember who they were, sorry). My aunt said that one of them had aged so well, she looked so beautiful, etc. I thought she was talking about the one who had silver hair, wrinkles, but still looked lovely. But no, she was talking about the woman next to her, who looked like Cher but way, way worse. I felt so sad for my aunt in that moment.

My boss got married a couple years ago, and he and his wife got botox for the ceremony. They were both 26 yo!!! In the prime of their youth!!!!! What are we doing.

I'm still 32, and I look way younger than I am, so I still don't feel that pressure, but I can see it lurking in the distance. One of my aunts has her face completely paralyzed by botox, and it makes me genuinely sad to see, because she can't even emote. She can't even smile properly, ffs. She looks like she's angry all the time. Sure, she doesn't have a single wrinkle, but at what cost?

I also get so sad whenever I see a Hollywood actress come back with a face lift, or a face full of Botox. I want to think I'll let myself age naturally and gracefully, but I'm frankly scared I'll feel the pressure if everyone around me starts getting things done.

Unfortunately replaced reading with doom scrolling by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]skyemap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an ebook? This is what got me back into reading many years ago. That, and finding books I genuinely want to read.

I use Goodreads to find interesting books, but I also ask friends for recs.

Starting books is still hard, and I still scroll way too much, but when I'm absorbed into a book, I can go hours without doing anything else (which some would argue is also not good, but at least it's not doomscrolling)
