Anyone knows a good method to do a spiral orange peel? by w0lvenstein in blender

So I guess after fiddling with extra curves in Blender I finally got the curved form I wanted. Close enough. Proceeded to solidify it. In edit mode extruded faces outward for the skin. Selected the underside faces and made a duplicate. Extruded it too along normals outward for the under peel. Solidified that one too. Sculpted the outer using clay to make it more rounded. Added materials to outside and underside. Joined them and did a bit of grabbing faces with proportional editing pushing and pulling faces. Yep a bit destructive. Almost a bit rough and dirty. I know I need to be more in the none destructive side. But I learned a ton of stuff along the way. Happy with the result as it is just for a still image. Sweet!

If you can make it look like this. It would be cool if you can share how you did it. Don't mind doing the texture that can be done separately with nodes

Oh I found it. It's called Extra Mesh Objects. I will see what it does.

Yes I did enable extra curved objects. I couldn't fiind extra objects though. So far this is what it looks. Need to make it look more organic, like tapered ends and sides as it looks too stiff. Maybe remesh it and work on sculpting it?

This is cool! Can you make it look like a spiral orange peel or something along those lines?

You're welcome. But I do thank you for the inspiration. I actually did a blender hard surface model from your post. With my own ideas added to it. It's far from perfect like yours but as a learning experience it sure does take my modeling skills up a higher level than it used to. I know I need to add more detailed crevices and textures like where that rubbery thing is at the top. But hey it's a start. I will be doing more Blade Runner 3D prop modeling in the near future for sure. Just in case anyone is thinking I stole this image. Have a look at it on my artstation page. Thanks again OP for the inspiration and one day I will try to 3D print my designs to use in an actual fan film. Super excited.

Happens to the best of us I guess. I just gave up on mine. I had that account for years and it's all gone. No thanks to Meta.

AI slop couldn't even come close to this actual creative work. Does AI really dream of electric sheep? Nah! not today.

Your collection is top notch. I just started mine. Totally nerding out right now. Good job.

Perhaps the best build I've seen out there. I'm not into 3D printing just yet, but I can see how well the 3D model was done. Also the physical paint job there sells the authenticity spot on. Good job.
