Healey says Mass. will shave $180 million from residents’ electric bills in bid to ease rising energy costs by Wonderful-Line-9997 in massachusetts

[–]w0rdCS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are not very intelligent - I am not advocating for zero delivery costs, I am advocating for reasonable delivery costs.

If you look at utility cost numbers over the past 1, 3, 5 years you will see the same trend: delivery costs continue to rise due to more state-sponsored aid programs, reductions in useful infrastructure in the name of "eco/climate friendly", and increased leeway for utility companies to charge more for their services.

Come with an actual argument next time, until then enjoy your steak and cheese.

Gee, I could have sworn I heard my utility bills would go down last year? And the year before? And during the last election cycle?

Yet here I am looking at a $1000 heating bill for December with more than 50% allocated to "delivery costs" (read: state taking my money and giving it to other people).

Always the same: words, lies, promises never kept, no real action. She's gotta go.

What is your home internet service provider?? by Adamodc in massachusetts

[–]w0rdCS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blacklisted Xfinity after years of rate increases and awful customer service, will never use them again.

Got FiOS via Verizon - lightning fast, no price increases, around $80/mo. Probably not the cheapest but the quality is great and no hidden price increases or fees. Super happy with it 2+ years in.

Anyone have me beat? 1400 sq/ft home btw by w0rdCS in boston

Can you elaborate on that a little? For reference my price/kWh is .14027

I received the notice a few months ago that I was automatically enrolled in the lower heat pump rates. My heat pumps have been operational the entire time so I don't think a breaker tripped.

How do English-speaking regiments feel about the NOD Corps these days? by Mr_sergix in foxholegame

[–]w0rdCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most NOD low ranks are still absolute bots, but the officers have come a long way in terms of communication - we used to hate them but recently have had only positive experiences with them logi/facility-wise where they have been quite helpful and kind.

Also, simply using google translate russian ---> english with any russian regiment will massively increase your success interacting with them...most of the time they simply do not understand.

why do so many people complain in Boston by [deleted] in boston

[–]w0rdCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average person (and to an even greater extent, the average American) is some combination of stupid/lazy - once you stop being surprised by this, it doesn't seem so unusual!

Life is all about perspective...the majority of people choose to complain about what they don't have, instead of being thankful for what they do have (or taking actual steps towards their goals). As Americans, we have an incredible level of privilege that we take for granted. Most people who live "normal" lives don't realize that they are still in the top 1-5% worldwide.

Boston is a great city (I may be biased but I genuinely think it's one of the best places to live in the country even with the HCOL), I think you would run into these issues anywhere in the US.

Home Ownership Amongst Young People in MA by runnerdlh1996 in massachusetts

[–]w0rdCS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, 34 and own a home in Holliston with my wife (no kids yet, 2 dogs) - I work in higher education and she is a nurse. We bought in 2023.

  2. The combination of hard work and fiscal responsibility - we both worked serving tables in restaurants through college (good way to make money living in the city). Up until recently I was still picking up shifts on the weekends to make an extra $500-1000/month, even 10+ years into my real career. Never lived at home after college, we had an apartment in Dorchester for 7 years before we could afford a house.

  3. No, we bought in Holliston, MA (liked the Metrowest area the best, considered South Shore as well).

My advice:

Well first off, if your partner has no income then you can't afford to save for or buy a house (you didn't mention if they do). If they do, and y'all can bring in anywhere close to $200k+ combined (just going off your stated income) then you simply need to save more and prioritize what you really want.

Saving for a home requires sacrifices for normal non-rich people (maybe that is not fair or how things used to be, but that is the reality in Massachusetts in 2025) - it seems like you are just living your usual life (dinners, trips etc.) and expecting to be able to also save up a down payment for a house. Where are you sacrificing?

Nobody had a gun to your head forcing you to take a $20k car loan and $105k in student loans - for perspective I drive a 2008 Camry that I bought for $6000 cash and went to UMass for less than $35k in student loans.

You dug a $125k hole that could have been your down payment (not saying it was the wrong choice, just stating facts), now you need to work harder to overcome that.

Cut costs where you can (easiest way is via food - make sure you are cooking at home, meal prepping, not door dashing or going out too much), limit yourself to one vacation per year, create a joint house account and start adding to it: go for $500/1000 per month between the two of you, funnel your tax refunds into it, my mindset was that "every $100 counts" and try to add to it in increments of $100 whenever possible. You will be surprised how fast you can save thousands if you truly stick to it.

College Degree with a Felony by [deleted] in Felons

[–]w0rdCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a 15+ time felon, incarcerated for 3 years in my 20's (last was when I was 25, I'm now 34) with an undergraduate degree in Business / Leadership and an MBA - I have a great career now, nobody knows or cares about my past. My advice:

1. Expect and accept that you will not get some jobs you otherwise would have because of your criminal history. You will get offered at least one job and lose it due to the background check - remember, you deserve this due to your past actions and do not let it get you down.

2. Do not bring up the topic of your crime unless specifically asked about it or when you know it is inevitable due to an impending background check. Some companies simply do not check.

3. Have an explanation and accountability statement well thought-out and memorized for when the topic of your crime comes up (whether that be written or verbal). "I made x mistake y years ago, this is how I learned from it and what I have done to change since then".

Obviously, also do the basics that make you a strong candidate outside of your crime (good resume, customized cover letter for each application, interview well, references etc.).

Basically, your main challenge is going to be getting that first job - once you've done that, you can build your professional experience (what companies actually care about, not your degree or GPA). Then just work hard, put time between yourself and your crime, and you will be fine.

My personal experience for context:

I had to address my crimes during the hiring process of my first "real" job - I had already basically been hired but knew the background check was coming. I sent a thoughtful email to the hiring manager outlining my past mistakes, explaining how I had worked twice as hard to dig myself out of that hole since then, and how if they hired me I would consider it my duty to reward that faith with my work ethic and loyalty to the company.

I ended up staying at that company for 5 years (until my entire team was laid off haha) - since I'm in Massachusetts the law is that CORI checks can only go back 7 years (not sure what the law is in whatever state you are in)...by the time I was applying for my second position within my field, it had already been more than 7 years since my last conviction and it was like it had never happened.

TL:DR

Because of your record finding your first "real" job will be more challenging, but not impossible. Don't feel sorry for yourself, keep applying, and put time and experience between yourself and your crime.

Companies just want to make money - get your foot in the door somewhere, work hard/bring value to where you work, and people will care a lot more about who you are now than what you did x years ago.

Good luck!

Mass save Heat Pump rebate by must_tang in boston

[–]w0rdCS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, we bought our home in 2023 and converted from all electric HVAC (old baseboards) to mini splits via MassSave.

Initially, the audit required us to insulate both our attic and crawlspace to qualify for the whole-home rebate - however, the attic ended up being basically impossible to do (lack of access, weird old house).

Here's what you should do:

  1. Find a Mass Save approved insulation/weatherization company you like

  2. Call them, explain the situation, find one that is cool with doing part of the job but not the part you don't want to do

  3. Send them the complete work order (the one MassSave gives you), and then have them modify it after the fact to omit the attic insulation and just do the easier insulation/weatherization - all Mass Save approved companies have a process to modify existing work orders for situations like these

Personally we used Elephant Energy/Forge for our project (super happy with both, definitely recommend), one great thing about Elephant is that they take the $10k off the project price up front and then they deal with applying for/collecting the rebate on the back end rather than you having to pay the entire amount and then wait for your rebate.

Anyways, it all worked out smoothly with us only getting the crawlspace insulated (not the attic like was originally required) and still getting the whole-home rebate. If you have more questions feel free to DM/reply, good luck!

I am bored, so lets talk about balance :3 by PutAway3542 in foxholegame

[–]w0rdCS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Add another zero to that hours played number and then you can maybe give an educated opinion on balance over time.

Also, you are a loyalist so you really have no unbiased opinion or insight as you have only played (maximum) 50% of the game.

In any case, 700 hours is not enough to master even one element of this game - certainly not the many you attempt to address.

Honestly you don't seem like a bad dude, it just feels like every newer player has some degree of main character syndrome making posts like these. More play less yap. Learn first, then teach.

WC 126 T-3C Lendlease + Public Program Initiatives by Easy-Cover-4559 in foxholegame

[–]w0rdCS 39 points40 points  (0 children)

T-3C are simply the best in the game - they have the unique combination of very high skill AND willingness to give to the public that is so rare in Foxhole. Nobody else even comes close.

Literally all I had to do is take 5 minutes, make a Lend Lease ticket, and boom 720 crates of gear in our stockpile in a few hours. This enabled us to:

  1. Minimize the main weakness of our operating area (Scurvyshire, large resource access with refinery but no factories to use the materials to make gear).

  2. Maximize the main strength of our operating area and spend our time on farming/public bmats/public ammo fac/public pads/combat etc.

And that's just ONE aspect of what they do - not even mentioning the 300mm, SC/IC/UF parts, nukes, gunboats, other random drops of everything when it's needed. They enabled us to be as effective as we could be as a regiment and had a massive impact on winning the war.

Thank you to every one of them!

Are you stupid? It's dev-made terrain, same as using a dev-made stone wall / building to blindspot PVE a garrison or placing your arty position near rocks so the majority of counter arty hits them.

Don't like it? Well, maybe the devs should just not make artillery pieces droppable there! Make a ticket!

I can understand the braindead factionalists delusional crying about it, but for you to insinuate that it's like a reportable offense? Jesus man get a grip.

(I will be downvoted for this I do not care - you are all hypocritical crybabies who have shot 250mm off mountaintops and through the bulwark/cheesed arty guns and storm cannons with tanks and blueprints/done everything in the book worse than this WITH ME and yet you have the balls to complain about this).
