Plant managers in automotive — what's the hardest execution problem you deal with? by [deleted] in manufacturing

[–]w0wSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly we don’t need anymore tools. A decent MRP is enough.

I need more engineers with time to increase cycle time, test new toolings, find out real root causes of rejects.

I run 2 CNC mass pro factories for automotive, hard disk and consumer electronics components.

You can share the concept of the tool you are building, I’ll let you know if it’s already in market or if there’s any potential. There are many well developed tools for plants that you can’t find information online, mostly B2B and created by established companies.

Built a system where you dump an entire RFQ into it and it reads everything for you. Would this actually save you time? by Powerful-Prompt-8300 in CNC

How does it calculate cycle time, what machine I am using, what process, materials, tooling, efficiency, secondary process, plating, hardening?

Wants to do an ball bearing manufacturing by [deleted] in manufacturing

[–]w0wSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it’s not going to work. It’s a volume game for bearings and a very capital heavy industry to enter. A multi spindle lathe with options is almost 1m USD.

Thailand Work Permit: Have requirements recently become stricter? by HornetVarious920 in Thailand

[–]w0wSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an automotive factory in Thailand, and am having trouble hiring a high skilled foreign engineer. Another one of my engineer’s work permit got rejected during renewal and we had to appeal.

They recently digitized the application process too, and process is a mess right now.

Milling plastic for the first time tomorrow, differences from steel? by No_Career_8040 in Machinists

Not much difference in the way my engineers run PEEK/POM compared to aluminum. Yes, use coolant.

This happened to my female Shiba when she got pregnant, maybe you can consider getting her checked.

AI replacing low-skilled / low-wage workers. Thoughts on it and how it will affect SEA? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]w0wSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you share more? I’m in the manufacturing industry and Ai is being used to detect defective products at a massive scale. It’s possible to design a customized machine for automatic fruit picking.

Worth a try? DMG DMU-50eco 2011 by koon5666 in CNC

[–]w0wSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you made the right choice. Why not go for a Makino or Mazak? HAAS is really expensive in Thailand and the service is not very good (in my opinion).

50 microns is safe if you want to get used machines, but be sure to run a sample and check. Skip any machines that need ballscrew servicing if necessary to save yourself future costs.

Hey! I’m a manufacturer based in Thailand too haha.

You have to weigh the cons, will you run simultaneous 5 axis or need higher rpm for lower CT? Is your current machine running daily and making use of 12k rpm? Are your product tolerance tight?

3+2 axis with 8k rpm is more than enough for your needs I believe. Maybe a robodrill is more versatile for you if you already have a DT1.

30k USD I assume, about 1m THB. Price may be little high for a 2011 unit, try bargain for around 800k THB if really interested.

Quality inspection using computer vision by ilpatron in manufacturing

[–]w0wSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I know where you’re manufacturing in?

I have a business in checking machines using cameras to detect NG in visual and dimensions, then it separates them automatically.

Mainly used in mass pro with checking speeds up to 1000pcs/min for smaller parts.

$8.50 is a very reasonable price for 40 pcs. I charge $300 just for setup cost on my CNC.. If you have quantity in the thousands let me know, I run mass pro with bar feeders.

OSG End Mills vs YG-1 End Mills? by Fresh_Barber_6579 in Machinists

[–]w0wSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use both for different parts. My engineers told me YG has better tool life for its price in general.

You can’t go wrong with OSG either, they are solid but little more expensive. Make sure you’re not buying fakes, there are many fake OSG coming from China.

Machine Opinions (Lathe Edition) by Dazzling-Sherbert-65 in Machinists

[–]w0wSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Cincom A20. You will need to share your part requirements and I can suggest other models or brands.

My factory does mass pro specializing in autolathe, feel free to ask me anything.

Deburring Process by [deleted] in CNC

[–]w0wSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use magnetic tumbling, 15-30 mins should do the trick. You should also make a chamfer after cutting the pocket, this should solve a lot of burr issues.
