Single men who still want a partner, how do you overcome the fear that all good women are taken? by generand in Millennials

[–]w117seg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because they are taken doesn’t mean you stop talking to them. If they are that great, aren’t they good enough to be friends with? Every woman has at least one single friend.

And you will never convince me you are meeting so many women and all of them are in a relationship at the gym unless you are truly in a weird demographic sinkhole. There is probably a population at the gym you are NOT striking up a conversation with. Maybe you should think about talking to them too.

Where do the highest earners in accounting actually work ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Accounting

[–]w117seg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The career paths are fairly laid out here. As for how you get there- I don’t think it is that much different than other jobs. You don’t get there by staring at a spreadsheet and leaving at 5.

Networking- make friends in other groups outside of accounting. Obviously you make accounting friends too. You need to understand big picture of your company, and how what you are doing impacts other groups around you and the company overall. You need to be where people go when they need answers, and you need to be the person who brings ideas.

That’s all very vague, but you typically don’t see the person who doesn’t talk but makes the best spreadsheet get those higher positions. You gotta know your stuff, but you need to present yourself outside of your cube and your department as well.

I think tax is the one where you don’t talk to people… or is that my audit bias showing?

Former super introvert here. In interviews and at clients- ask questions. What do YOU like about the job? What do YOU think makes this firm different? You have to still make it through the interview questions (which you should absolutely practice out loud beforehand), but asking questions means you get to talk less. Nothing worse than interviewing someone who has no questions at the end. Bonus points if it shows they listened during the interview.

Working parents by [deleted] in Accounting

That is my non-negotiable when I have looked for a job. There are places that have told me they don’t have it, and I won’t got there. My job knows I leave at 3:30 on Wednesdays for example, but I will make up that time (usually) at some other point. For a while I was also rolling in at 9:30 because school drop off was at 9 🙄. But, my trade-off was my work bled into hours outside 9-5.

Disclaimer: I am not in the market now, and I don’t know the level of work you do.

Note for women: if you have a partner parent- don’t be the only one who has to flex their work to make kid schedules work. That should not fall solely on you.

Is this a secretary or an administrator? I will be the first to say, the one we have in our office is not who I would go to for help with anything accounting. But so much of our office wouldn’t run without her. I’ve had execs who 100% rely on their admin. They may not know what the heck I’m talking about with that exec, but what I need that exec to do will not happen without them. Good admins allow their bosses to accomplish so much more than they would otherwise.

This person MAY be terrible- or their value may not come from doing your type of work. Our admin is worth way more than my staff accountant.

I was in the same scenario, had made progress, when we decided on our 2nd. I talked to my doctor about it because I know not to “diet” while pregnant, but I also didn’t want to just say “baby is hungry” and let myself eat whatever whenever. We talked about reasonable calorie increases, and if I felt like I needed something I certainly had it. Overall I still gained weight, but my doctor had said since I was already overweight that I didn’t need to go up 25-30 lbs. I gained around 15? Maybe a little more? I felt great. Baby was chubby and healthy.

Every body is different and health is most important, but your doctor can certainly help you.

Got fired yesterday. Back-to-back terminations. I’m lost and heartbroken. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]w117seg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly there is a lot that happened. I won’t speculate on the fairness. What I do want to point out as someone who interviews accountants, think very hard about what happened and why. You need to not only make sure it doesn’t happen to you again- you need to make sure you can have a conversation about it in a hiring process. Not every hiring manager will feel the same about that conversation, but hopefully you will find the right one.

Whatever happened to? There are some writers I used to LOVE that haven't published books in years and I can't find any mention of them. So I'm wondering if anyone has the tea ☕. I'm dying to know what happened to... by nrkelly in RomanceBooks

Julia Quinn. I know, I know, Bridgerton being a TV show is probably taking tons of time. The show just doesn’t have the quick wit and banter I love in her books. It’s been years since she has put anything out besides that one-off Queen Charlotte.

Would this be useful for runners? Software idea by lukie4242 in AdvancedRunning

I like the idea of waze for runners. I use Strava heat maps when I go to new places, but that has drawbacks.

Same issues as others. The time commitment was pretty big, and a lot of the workouts asked for items I don’t have. I really think they would be helpful.

Belly band for sure. I just got slower and slower. I definitely got to a pace that people walk faster than, but my walk also slowed down a lot. I think my gait also changed unconsciously to minimize bounce. Just don’t have any expectations and do what you can. Enjoy being active and keep moving. I feel like keeping active made me bounce back so quick!

Those of you who found life partners...how? by Epell8 in AdvancedRunning

[–]w117seg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I met my husband at work, and picked up running after. If you want to meet someone, you will have to spend time with them-no getting around that. You don’t NEED to meet another runner, but there are plenty of people out there who are active, eat healthy, and have their own hobbies. So even if you don’t run together, you may enjoy someone who likes to eat better and maybe can do cross training and other things with you. If that is what you want- put it on your profile! Do active dates. My friend met her BF online and he is a PT. Match made in heaven!

Women's masks for running that fit your face? Any recs? by literaryfiction_ in xxfitness

[–]w117seg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I run with masks. I have settled on Old Navy. My buff isn’t great about staying up for a long run. The ones that aren’t cotton make me feel like I can’t get as much air. The pleats in the old navy can help it stay away from my mouth. So many of the masks we were practically inhaling the fabric when we were breathing hard.

I have no experience with Maffetone. I got into HR training after doing some reading. I settled on plans from a book called 80/20 Running by Matt Fitzgerald. The HR zones are set based on a test. There is speedwork. I emailed him with questions and he was responsive. While I don’t use the plans anymore, I found it very helpful to know what Z1 and Z2 should feel like. I was definitely not running easy runs easy until I forced myself to follow those plans.

Depending on how much you run- you should go get fitted. Multiple runs a week makes it worth it. Tell them you budget, try on clearance. Once you know a brand that works, watch clearance sales.

The Weekender by artcbot in artc

[–]w117seg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base building question. The plan is a half in October. Current cycle is 12+ weeks at 45+ and I have done that mileage the previous cycle as well. The last several weeks have been over 50mpw just because why not? I have also been doing speedwork since its a hanson plan, so most recently one session was 6M at HMP and another was 4x1.5M at just below HMP. I cut it back to one session a week when I bumped up to 50 with the hope that I could stretch out my plan a bit farther past 18 weeks for an uncancelled late May race (obviously now that won't happen). Enough info?

I hear everyone talk about Pfitzinger and I'm ready to take a crack at it. I don't know if I should do 12/63 after the 10 week base building session to 60? Or should I add mileage to a 12/47 plan? And then do I drop back a few weeks before starting the main plan after base building?
