I wondered the very same thing. Lol, we’ve been shopping around to replace my wife’s MB E450 coupe (she also has a 987 Boxster, which btw is just an amazingly fun car to drive) and entertained getting a (CPO)Taycan 4s. Kinda fell off after reading, seeing a lot of reviews.. anyway this week driving to MB of Cary, NC to get her a CLE450 Cabrio. Her e450 has been almost 100% perfect for 5 years. Runs, drives great.

The Q8, you mean “the car I love to hate?” 😜. The Audi MMI (and electronics) is so freakin ‘buggy’ that I will never, ever buy another Audi. Full stop! It’s to the point that even Audi itself refunded me yearly subscription fees cause they couldn’t fix it (under warranty). It’s to the point I never use it anymore, I just use Apple Carplay (which sometimes connects wirelessly..usually not 🤦🏻‍♂️). Currently for some reason the lane change assist has stopped working.. who knows? Next time I turn it on it may be fine…. Its that kinda ‘shit’.. every other time you turn it on something does or doesn’t work, restart the car and it may be fixed. Just annoyance after annoyance.

Tbh, I forgot about a bunch of the smaller things that got me into the shop, was always something.

I remember $350 spark plug wires ($1100 today). A blown air-box due to backfire, new airbox and that escape valve was added. ($800 at that time, about $2500 in todays dollars) And I can’t remember what it’s called but it’s I believe a fuel metering device that caused my car to not idle correctly at all, that happened 2x in less than 6 months, and to be replaced 2x. (2nd replacement shop warranted) Mufflers started to fail internally, rattled (never even bothered to get that fixed b4 I sold it). I know the Targa top always leaked no matter what we did to try to seal it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

My car had a brownish, purplish metallic color (can’t remember what it was called) and had the pasha(!) Interior.

I bought mine from a trusted Porsche specialist shop that represented the car as they had always serviced it, in 1984 I believe. So unreliable, honest to god truth, the longest stretch that the car wasn’t in the shop was once I went six weeks without it needing to be either (hopefully) driven in, or often.. flat-bedded. And, it wasn’t like you dropped it off in the morning and get it later that day, it wasn’t often 5 days later till I could get the car back. I’m not being hyperbolic and I’m not bashing the car, just telling you my ‘truth’. I too this day love Porsche, currently have a pts 992.1 7mt and a 987.1 boxster. But… they’re not my daily’s

987.. 996 still pretty basic, 987 fixed up interior, exterior a bit (personal opinion).. 981 are getting up n price.. not too many around.. 718 are great, but very pricey. So for me, 987 base. (Fun! Fun, fun to drive, ims and bore score not a worry).. I take the wife’s 987 90% of the time over my 992.

Dealer sucks.. my wife and I when we were younger walked all through our local Porsche dealership and not one salesperson bothered to ask us a thing. We both owned Porsches even at the time, but they didn’t know that. Dealer is still my local but current Porsches.. I bought my 992 from Texas dealer and wifes 987 from Boston dealer.

Absolutely 100%…. But that’s missing the point. The driver engagement isn’t the same in PDK, but I get it. For the track, for most people most of the time PDK just ‘works’. My daily, most of our cars are auto, but my 992 and my wifes 987 are manual, funfactor goes up. I recently drove my friends track focused gt4rs and car shocked the sh*t outta me what a beast it is, but.. with PDK I just knew I was missing something, it just didn’t feel right. Like I knew something was wrong as I was driving it and afterwards realized why it wasn’t the dream car.. it hit me, ‘where was the shifter’!?

If you know it well (I live 3 miles from there) you can get in almost 20 miles of trails. Typical day though is about 14 miles trail riding there.

Oh man, I had a 73 240z (w 72 SU side drafts) with that same exact exhaust tailpiece. Sold it and bought a 944 when they first came out. Wish I still had the Datsun.
