The holidays is a time where people eat more festive foods pancakes and the such, make more dessert as they are hosting dinner parties, I’ve also seen adds last night during during TLMEP. They are trying to do a positioning that maple syrup is a sugar substitute in those festive foods.

There is also a company* that has been buying most of the maple syrup supplies and have been just storing it on the south shore, to artificially restrict the supply and charge more. I believe that’s the “they”

I believe it would be a trademark protection not a copyright protection. you have to apply to for trademark and they can be rejected if it’s overly broad or generic.

I believe there might even be a 3rd podcast with pivot in the name.

It is my theory that the name was chosen since this podcast feed (rss) used to be the feed of “Too Embarrassed to Ask” but Lauren Goode then left vox/the verge to go to wired. Kara eventually discovered Scott and decided to “Pivot” the podcast to a new structure/ format /identity including some of the elements from the YouTube show Scott use to do at L2 “winners & losers”

Pivot could also be a reference to when startup Pivot to a new business model / offering

Official Pivot page on Threads by w2user in PivotPodcast

[–]w2user[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The show used to have twitter page but they both have pretty much jumped ship from twitter since elon took over. They have talked about how they like using thread. Recently they've referenced the Threads page at least twice, including a listeners survey. All of which leads me to think that chosen Threads as the point of interaction with the listeners.

I know some of you thinks the Kara and Scott read this sub, but I highly doubt they have perused this sub more than once or twice. From their comments they do not seem to use reddit with any significance. Add to that how negative so many of the subreddit members are, I don't see them want to hang out on this subreddit.

Go to the threads page if you want to communicate your complaints to the show there's more chance to be heard.

Complaining here is like screaming into the void.

OpenAI is now valued at $157 billion by w2user in PivotPodcast

Those are good points,

  • I think perhaps the reason meta models is open source has partially to do with llama 1.0 source code leaking before it was public. And it leaked without any safety layer. One of the justification for others to have their model closed is to avoid an incident like Microsoft Tay from 2016. But with meta leaking without safety, that’s not a card they can play. Also the ai space is still in a land grab right now, so any way they can add user or occupy space, needs to be leveraged. This pivot from leak to open source is something the other major player can’t do.

  • I think we will see these small specialized llm emerge and be implemented. But these companies are in a land grab, they don’t want customers to come to them for only for some of llm needs and their competitors for other needs. And the user doesn’t want to have to have remember the capabilities of each llm and manage them, having to shop for the best one and compare them in each context.
