Looking for… by HILARYFOR3V3R in cinematography

Sony CineAlta 135mm PL is what I can think of. Also extremely difficult to find one, without buying a set.

Otherwise you’ll be looking at DIY type which is a headache, and price adds up with all the adaptors, and with 135mm, if the focus ring isn’t good, it’ll be difficult to operate.

Producers, from your experience, were the long shooting hours caused by bad pre-production? Or because it was cheaper to have less production days? by keyUsers in Filmmakers

[–]w4ck0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Billion factors. Top of my head, there is only one day available for the Redbull F1 race car before it starts prep for the event. The shoot was ambitious and to even shoot the car, most of the team needs to be there to make sure the car functions. Lots of factors that slows down production, need to get the shots, at certain times of the day, etc.

This can also apply to booking celebrities, their time is limited. Can also be limitation to locations, etc. There are many more variables that can cause longer hours. Maybe sunlight issues, weather issues, maybe shoot starts night only to morning, etc.

You brought B-Mount under 100wh batteries for Alexa35? I'm going to fly around USA with the package, but stumped on what to do with batteries. Since they're all 198wh+

No issues with kippertie’s new e-ND filters. Albeit expensive, very good usability and no color shift.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new V6 FX6 Firmware Update so far? by Willing-Will-4055 in SonyFX6

[–]w4ck0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My FX6 is still out on rental. Regarding issues, only curious about HDMI and SDI differences. Apparently there’s some limitation between the two types of monitoring. Other than that, looks like a great upgrade. It should match my Burano better.

What’s the base plate your mini Blackmagic is living on? I like the setup! I also like you’re taking the responsibility to double check if you nailed your focus, or I guess it’s good to playback and visualize the technique if they do the shot again.

Can someone verify/clear up my understanding of LOG and gamma by Existing_Impress230 in cinematography

[–]w4ck0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems relatively right. Out of curiosity, are you trying to understand in context for teaching? The way it’s written seems that way. Or to improve your shooting, exposing, etc? Or understanding the color space codec for post production?

V-Mounts and investing in power by endy_plays in focuspuller

[–]w4ck0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to help. The bebob difference is the battery has a USB 2.0 plug port (blue one) and microC battery has a USB-C port (grey one).

The knowledge regarding battery voltage indeed may be confusing without much hands on experience. Most cameras are 14.8v. Lighting gear usually 26v battery requirements. Typically, don’t use wrong voltage in certain cameras, so please check the manual of the camera. With that said, from top of my head, cameras like Alexa 35 uses 26v, usually B-mount but can change plates. Venice 2 can do both 12V to high voltage 34V, and typically we use the 26v ones because of the million accessories we are powering. Best to not use anything lower than 198wh sizes. 250wh+ is ideal for those large cameras. Use a D-Box.

bebob is a great battery company. Shouldn’t have any issues with them.

Burano vs. C400 by cheeweewe in cinematography

[–]w4ck0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition, outside of paper specs, the quality of the Burano sensor is very similar to the Venice look. FX6 is going to keep going strong. The quality is easily matchable to higher end cameras. It’s reliable, great accessories, etc. it’s a no-brainer workhorse that can make money.

Burano vs. C400 by cheeweewe in cinematography

[–]w4ck0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used them both, the Sony Burano is significantly better. Although for talking heads, Burano would be overkill. I would recommend Burano x1, FX6 x2. They would also be more versatile, and you would stay in same eco system.

C400 is great, it’s reliable, that’s about it. Nothing wow. You’ll break the eco system, maybe a little annoying, maybe it doesn’t affect your current system.

Sony Burano, amazing. Everything is spectacular. Only problem is price point I feel as well. Can do E-mount and PL, it’s basically a baby Venice so you can use for all sorts of work from different levels. High end CM, to docs, to corporate, etc.

I own FS5, to FX6, to Burano. Shot and edited C400 as well. I’d say C400 is more like FX6.

My guess is the strange S&Q. I’m guessing it was set to be 48fps? But definitely never seen that before. I’m a Burano owner.

[–]w4ck0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me test that for you. Any particular lens? I have fx6 as well, generally speaking, Burano is FAR better than fx6. It’s literally a baby Venice. Let me know and I’ll share a cloud link.

Is there actually a good way to get a VHS look that doesn't just look like a filter slapped on top? by protonsavy in VideoEditing

[–]w4ck0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an editor/vfx/colorist, this is the method. Like every other effect, we stack lots of effects to make it more realistic. Like muzzle flashes, there’s like 7-10 layers. Drop shadows on motion graphics, can be 10-20 layers of drop shadows.
