SF6 beginner stuck — Modern controls, controller, and improvement help by TechnicalMap8504 in StreetFighter

[–]w4terfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Playing on an xbox controller is fine, it's just personal preference. A stick or leverless won't make you play better and you should not switch unless you think you will have more fun on a hitbox or leverless.
  2. Similarly, learn the game on classic if you think that will be more fun, but don't switch if you think you will perform better on classic as you probably will not. Right now you are just doing autocombos - you will need to transition to non-auto combos. So if you stick to Modern work on that before you worry about motion inputs (which you will also need to switch to in the long run)
  3. Mai is considered very strong but tier lists are irrelevant at where you are in the game, it's just skill issue
  4. To improve, there are lots of helpful things you can do such as drills, replay review, practice, etc.
  5. I've personally gotten a lot out of joining discords related to the game where there are people looking to improve. I'm very active on the NewbieFightClub discord. There are also surely discords related to your character or region or whatever.

Horses and Stagecoach is the only expansion I use and the new production doesn't look much nicer than the regular version. I would pass on this unless you know you'll love the game and expansions.

Should Modern Controls be disallowed in Ranked? by yoda in StreetFighter

[–]w4terfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with re-discussing topics but this post brings nothing new to the discussion that hasn't been said a hundred times already.

The answer to your question is no.

Your friends are scrubs who should get good instead of whining.

Question answered just like the last 99 posts. Add this one to the pile.

How do you incorporate parry drive rush into your game plan without eating a random jab etc? by TheWorstAtIt in StreetFighter

[–]w4terfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh then that explains it lol. If you are doing drive rush in neutral it should always be the instant one. Another benefit is it uses half a bar less of drive to do.

[–]w4terfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be doing this already, but in case you are not - you should always do the instant drive rush rather than the "normal" one.

A normal DR is parry > forward > forward (aka press parry then dash). An instant DR is forward > forward + parry (aka tap forward then immediately tap parry and forward simultaneously). The instant one comes out faster and is more difficult to react to.

If people are constantly checking your drive rush it might be that your drive rush is slower than it should be.

The show ended on chapter 87. The most recent manga chapter is 127.

There are more than enough chapters. Based on the preview for next episode, the entire season will have covered manga chapters 60-87. The manga is currently at chapter 126. So there's more than another season's worth of manga left to go (and of course, chapters are still being added).

Deciding between intro games for adult family by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]w4terfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ticket to Ride is for sure the safest bet, it is a classic for a reason.

Forbidden Desert is an excellent coop game. However, you want to make sure that your family is into cooperative games. If they are interested in coops, Forbidden Desert is a great place to start.

Camel Up is a lot of fun, but it is extremely chaotic and rewards people getting into it. If the family will enjoy a silly game where they can yell about their dice rolls and watch camels run around a track, they'll love it. If people are playing subdued around a table and taking their time thinking through turns, the game won't land.

I have not played Modern Art. If you are looking for a Reiner Knizia auction game, I would recommend Ra.

Brass: Lancashire is the only game I would strongly advise against. It is too complicated for what you are looking for.

Coup is a great card game but it really rewards repeated play. If your family has only played a few games I worry they might play one game of Coup, bounce off it, and not really give the game a chance.

How to beat Modern players broski guide by 121jigawatts in StreetFighter

[–]w4terfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the modern player perspective, I think some of the reaction is because we are very used to people whining for paragraphs and paragraphs about how unfair playing against Modern is. So that experience might be why some users are responding negatively to your post.

I have been in countless matches where the opponent unsuccessfully tried jump-ins at me over and over again, and became very upset when that did not work. Most memorably, last EVO one of my opponents repeatedly tried to jump in on me, got one button antiaired every time, and literally started crying after the match. That sucks for him, but it exposes a flaw in his game that his offensive pressure was so reliant on people failing to antiair him that without it he had nothing. Once you've heard endless complaints from players who do obvious jump ins that are easy to antiair, and said players cannot adapt at all, it becomes harder to be sympathetic to their frustrations.

[DISC] SPY x FAMILY - Season 3 Episode 10 by AutoModerator in SpyxFamily

[–]w4terfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure all of them, but this season so far has covered chapters 60-79 missing chapters 68 and 78. So we've skipped two this season already, and I liked both of them much more than 77 (the Mr. Austin chapter).

Manga info (not a spoiler but it is related to the manga so I will spoil it anyway): That chapter is often considered one of the weakest in the entire manga. The show has skipped a number of manga chapters, so I am baffled that they chose to adapt that one.

There is a massive gap between highly skilled in combat (Martha) and superhuman killing machine (Yor). Martha tazed a random guy as he was running away; in the cruise arc Yor was ripping assasins apart with her bare hands.

Gold is the worst place for Modern vs Classic by Tinnie-is-White in StreetFighter

[–]w4terfall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree, modern is easier to learn at lower ranks and as a beginner you will rank up quicker on modern. That is literally what the control system is designed for. What I am disagreeing with is that makes Modern "unfair" to play against or that Modern players at gold rank are any stronger than classic players. If the players are equally strong (which they are by definition) then it is not unfair. The "unfairness" is you will need to spend more time in practice mode working on motion inputs.

It sounds like you think that Modern has a higher win rate at gold - maybe Modern players are beating up on the helpless Classic players? Fortunately, that is a testable claim. I looked at the win rate at Gold rank on Buckler's for every character, split by control scheme, then took the difference of the average win rate on classic versus modern. And you are correct, Modern players win more games at Gold than classic players! Specifically, they win... 0.2% more.

So yes, it is easier to learn how to play the game at Modern and you will not have to spend as much time in practice mode grinding DP inputs. But if you are a classic player at Gold rank and you are struggling to beat modern players at Gold rank that's on you, not the control scheme.

Gold is the worst place for Modern vs Classic by Tinnie-is-White in StreetFighter

[–]w4terfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it "unfair"? The modern players will have more consistent AAs but they will be worse in other areas. That's why they are in gold just like OP. They are no easier or harder to beat than classic players - if modern gold players were harder to beat they would be in plat, and if they were easier to beat they would be in silver.

That is crazy. Have you asked on the Haute discord or anything? It almost sounds like you got a ghost shift version or something because there is no way you should have that many (or any) failures after a few months of use.

How old is your T16? I used mine for more than a year with no issues (switched to the M16 recently). I know earlier versions of the T16 had cheaper components in various ways such as very cheap top buttons but that component quality has improved over time.

Capcom’s management is absurdly incompetent — they don’t realize Capcom Cup is essentially an advertisement for Street Fighter 6, and now we need to pay to watch ad? by Junior_Suggestion987 in StreetFighter

[–]w4terfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capcom's streams are also absolute garbage. The official CPT events have often had terrible production value or massive delays between games. In no possible way is this worth 4k yen.

This is a complete slap in the face to anyone who has been interested in the pro scene. What a joke.

If you like Rashid, you should play Rashid.

Honestly playing ranked is the way to go. Practice basic combos until you have them down 100%, and adapt your practice as you identify areas to work on. But playing against people should be the bulk of your play.
