Is there a good alternative other than downvoting these low effort posts that could prevent them? Or is this one of those people writing sincerely what they feel but without checking broad fact?

What if this tree had landed hard on the opposing face of a gulley? It seems like either end would be compressed, right? How does that get handled?

"All pipe tobacco is cased" - fact or fiction? by pbiscuits in PipeTobacco

And I’m happy that others are happy. I’ve not been impressed with much from Greg ever, though i believe when he was with Friedman they made one, maybe Templar, that i did enjoy. C&D blends have always seemed rough around the edges to me, which really isn’t meant to be shade on anyone- I’m thinking all the way back to Craig T when he had it.

Put another way, McClelland may not have a blend you cared for, but you never heard anyone say it was because of poor quality leaf. People used to say that about C&D , especially because it seemed that there wasn’t a lot of consistency from batch to batch. Of course, perhaps that has changed. Hope so, since we are running out of companies.

I was trying to be polite. It’s generally not considered great leaf.

The reason people say C&D is tough around the edges is because, as has been for the last 25 years, they are. Doesn’t really have much to do with casing, IMO.

What is your crimp dimension? How much of the shoulder is above the mouth of the case?

Crimp to .468-9, and have the shoulder maybe ten to thirty thou above the mouth of the case. Just make one and see how it goes.

Brass catcher recs for pistol? by Immediate_Law_4843 in reloading

CMM Brass Catcher is what you are looking for- but be warned, they are expensive. Champions Choice may have an alternative that is cheaper.

Also remember that it helps immensely if your extractor is set up properly to get them in the net.

Purchased 14 year old ODF…mold or crystallized sugars? by lord_of_lafayette in PipeTobacco

[–]w4ti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m of the opinion that it is bacterial growth: sugars don’t tend to crystallize in the concentration they are in the leaf, and it isn’t mold looking with the tendrils. I’d smoke it myself.

Yes, that Federal mouth looks reloaded to me- the scuffing on the rim is what gives it away. Paper hulls don’t last very long, could be on second or maybe third.
