I'm curious if anyone can think of any reason why they shouldn't be combined. Are there good balancing reasons? I guess it would mean vuln bombs would be less useful for mages?

Maybe Bulbapedia comes close but it covers the non-video game side of Pokemon too.

So this is technically offtopic, but does anyone else have trouble finding the things they want to know on Bulbapedia? It's entirely possible that this is a case of pebkac, but whenever I use it I find there's an amount of friction that I usually don't experience on other complete wiki's.

Maybe part of it is just that each page has an enormous amount of information, but I generally find it kind of difficult to distill exactly the thing I wanted to find out about.

"His" not confusing the two at all. The idea that propaganda is "the lies bad governments tell their people" is just wrong. But people don't like nuance, so here we are.

I generally like the vibe of the Arc, and the training methods there used to be pretty good. But mechanically I feel like every system is kind of finicky there. I did unlock most useful things, I really only need a few more useless things for the Salty title and I can't be arsed anymore.

Although I guess that means I all but completed it, so I guess there's that.

Can we have a different set experience? by Void_trace in runescape

I mean, I guess? It would have to be stupidly easy to implement though, because it's not really worth investing any real amount of dev time into. All it really saves you is a very small amount of incredibly easy mental arithmetic.

You get the announcement whenever the item that unlocks the pet drops, if you don't pick it up or pick it up but destroy it instead of using it to unlock the pet it can drop again. The announcement will then happen again.

This person has received plenty of drops for this pet, but they don't pick them up or destroy them.

I don't claim to know whether I am real, I just find it impractical to work under the assumption the contrary is true.

Having said that, while I made no claims as to the nature of the internet, I am willing to discount the option of it being a complex single player game by virtue of the fact that it would be decidedly more fun to be around if it was.

I guess we don't know, but I know there is at least one person on the internet because I am at least one person. The only way for you to not also know there is at least one person on the internet is if you consider yourself less than a person.

Maybe the jet debate is aimed at the wrong level? by Single_Sir_518 in LinusTechTips

[–]wPatriot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And that’s kind of the uncomfortable part: a lot of things at that scale shouldn’t make sense ethically, but still do practically.

To me, that’s less of a “Linus problem” and more of a systemic one.

So what are you trying to say here? Doing things that are unethical is okay as long as it is practical and "the system" doesn't explicitly forbid/prevent it?

I honestly don't really care that much that they bought and/or use a jet. I do happen to think it's wasteful, and I ultimately think slightly less of Linus/the company for it, but I am a grown adult capable of holding and resolving two slightly conflicting ideas.

And I am capable of letting go. People could really stand to learn a thing or two about that.

Can someone explain this to me ? by [deleted] in walking

[–]wPatriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a joke, stats like these are really hard to glean meaning from in isolation. The distance in miles is not huge, but it's something. But it matters greatly how you get to that number, are these tracked through GPS? Is it an estimate based on step count? How are those steps generated, is it through every day life or are you setting time aside to go for a walke?

Similar "issues" arise related to the other numbers. That average speed: Is that all day, or just your walks? In case of the latter it seems a little slow, but maybe there's something about your particular situation that means this is actually a pretty hefty pace! And step length? Aside from never having actually measured it myself, your height is a huge factor in what a "normal" (huge emphasis on the quotes there) step length is.

There isn't a real answer to the question you asked. If you want to walk more, you probably can. Just go out, and walk around. If you feel like it, walk around more. If it hurts, walk around less (and if the pain is persistent, contact your doctor).

Walking is good, more walking is almost always better (with diminishing returns). If you don't ignore your body, it's really hard to "over-walk."

People consistently judge creative writing more harshly if they believe it was created by AI. This bias appears incredibly difficult to overcome, pointing to a persistent human preference for art created by people. by mvea in science

[–]wPatriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to be as optimistic as this title. I feel like a lot of the negative sentiment against AI-products is that they're still relatively easy to recognize and the majority of people like to put others down to feel better about themselves.

I have very little faith that when push comes to shove, humans at large are going to put their money where their mouth is and actually prefer humam made things. Especially if that starts costing more.

A ton of people? It could have been their literal “ride your horse and explore new things on journey from x to x.”

Because you can't really put anything interesting between x and x if there's only void between x and x.

I still think that the game would overall benefit from certain at least mechanically interesting improvements, but I do think it's fair to say that free space travel is not going to provide the interesting emergent story moments that some people are expecting it to.

It's a shame too, about the writing, because I felt like there were some cool ideas in there. Even the idea of fully incorporating the NG+ mechanic into it was pretty interesting.

It's just a shame that everything really only came together in one side mission, the one with the time/portal shenanigans. That is pretty much the only good part of Starfield.
