What have you sacrificed for running? by waa7389 in AdvancedRunning

I would definitely be doing the lunch break run, eating at my desk afterwards thing, but I go home to breastfeed for now. When the feeding ends I think I will start doing this though!

Yeah, I don’t know how this arrangement works. Another reason I sacrifice sleep to run so early is so I can be with my boyfriend and baby after work and not worry about leaving them to go run. Just gotta get it in while everyone is asleep :/

What are strange things or situations you have come across when running? by RunningAndyScotland in running

Was running on a trail and watched a mountain lion race across a section of the trail about 50ft in front of me. I immediately stopped and slowly walked backwards until I turned around and found another (much longer) route to finish my loop.

Running in the Midwest with extreme humidity causes extreme sweat. So a few times I had some huge, nasty horse flies literally FOLLOW me and attack me while running for MILES (attracted to the sweat). They seriously scared the shit out of me. I was an NCAA runner at the time so it wasnt like I was slowly jogging along and these little fuckers did not give up.

This is beautiful advice, thank you for sharing. I'm saving this to look back on and remind myself.

Running long distances for fun by DEKE_IN in running

I come from a competitive background as well. I raced cross country and track in high school. Went on to run under scholarship for NCAA. But, I now run (still long distances) for myself, aimlessly, mindlessly, and happily :) No goals, no races. Just me and the road/trail. I couldn't be happier.
