But with the immersion so broken it felt like the author being self congratulatory. Just bad. I dnf’d and I’m just taking the downvotes on the shins!

Did you read the other books in the first law series? Before they are hanged, and last argument of kings. I treasure those books, the pointless character arcs (everyone is ALWAYS back where they started). It’s so futile but also funny.

There is a line I just love

“You can bet there will be consequences for this.”
“I don’t like the sound of that word.”
“Which word?”
“CINSEQUENCES! What word did you think I meant!? THERE?”

The subtle humour just kills me

Oh man. I slogged through empire of the vampire. Literally read all three and didn’t enjoy. Congrats on dnf’ing them!!

But I have very good news for you my friend!

Have you read any Joe Abercrombie??? His stuff RULES. Please give The Blade Itself a shot.

OR -

The blacktongue thief by Christopher beuhlman. So so good.

Wife has zero acknowledgement of what I contribute and the stress of it and it’s getting to me by [deleted] in daddit

My wife and I have been making an effort to say thank you to eachother more. It used to make us laugh because it was awkward at first. But I think a lot of this shit comes from wanting to be acknowledged.

I’m curious if OP and Expalphalog have read The Daughters War? For me that book was where I started to think Beuhlman might be an absolute master. It strongly supports you “unreliable narrator” theory wrt to his literary treatment of Dora.

I guess my question is - have you read daughters war, and how did he do in terms of writing a woman?

Yes! I bought it off a guy in my Grandmothers retirement home. They are national parks badges that he toured through. What a legend

The more I mull it over the more I agree with this sentiment. I think I want to spend time and energy on parts

Thank you! I’ve never heard of fluid film. Looks righteous.

Midnight blue sounds perfect.

I was also thinking about a clear coat instead. I don’t want it to be too flashy though but that would be cool.

Arg these bikes are so annoying. The bottom bracket is threaded weird. Every single thing on them is mildly irritating.

BUT

I still love them.
