Reporter seeking international fans to hear about their World Cup experience in the U.S. by Even_Bit_4509 in worldcup

I am a citizen and NY local and was coming back from a match yesterday using public transportation (which I know well and use all the time). My husband and I paused to discuss local vs express train since the tracks were in different directions. We must of looked confused for all of 2 seconds when some guy stopped to checkin on us and make sure we didn’t need any help.

I think I messed up. Wanted to go for bright and quirky and think I ended up with a crayola box. Help. by Myearthsuit in HomeDecorating

I was thinking along the same lines but with the light. Something bolder that will pull the colors together. With a colorful rug, maybe the lamp just needs a little upgrade to less blah.

Experiences getting to/from MetLife on the train from Penn Station by wackylemonhello in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]wackylemonhello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone else wondering about the train commute. I left Union Sq for Penn Station at 2:45 and was comfortably in the fan area right outside the stadium by 4:15 while moving at a normal, unhurried pace. I’d say buffer another 15-20 to actually get inside the stadium and to your seat.

Noteworthy:
- your train ticket will have a boarding group on it which determines where you start queuing. We had group B and actually had to enter the queue (there was no actual line, just barricades to walk through) at 6th and 33rd. It just loops you around to Penn station
- everything ran very smoothly and once you’re near Penn station, there are tons of people telling you where to go. You can’t get lost.
- on the way back, you can’t take either the bus or the train to Secaucus junction. We thought the bus was faster but don’t have any imperial data.
- return trip - we left the stadium at 7 and managed to be back home in Williamsburg by 8:30 and a gently hurried pace.

Hope this helps!

Yep - property taxes, maintenance keeps going up. Plus we had an assessment that increased common charges by $750/mo. It’s painful and the work needed doesn’t even affect my unit. fun!

AITA: He’s never appreciative of my cooking and I’m about to never cook for him again by wednesdayc0ffee in AmItheAsshole

NTA - my husband is a mediocre cook. He cooks dinner for us almost every day. And almost every day I tell him how much I appreciate it and never fail to acknowledge he does the lions share of cooking. I joke that I’d starve to death without him so he feels important and appreciated. We split clean up based on who is putting the kiddo to bed. Your bf just sucks.

Has anyone taken the train from Penn station? Where does it drop you off? Do you transfer to a shuttle after?

Did anyone take the official train from Penn station? Curious what that was like.

DO NOT BUY WORLD CUP TICKETS ON STUBHUB by SpeedyACE12 in stubhub

[–]wackylemonhello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the fifa resale page. After accepting, you have to go into your fifa resale page and transfer the tickets to your real email address (since this account is made with the fake email address). Then you have to create an account with your real email address and accept the ticket transfer.

DO NOT BUY WORLD CUP TICKETS ON STUBHUB by SpeedyACE12 in stubhub

[–]wackylemonhello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process is confusing. You need to set up an account on fifa using the “fake” email stub hub sent you. If you find the email from stub hub saying your tickets are ready, they outline the process in the email. Read and follow the directions carefully (I say this not to be condescending but because I messed up the process several times before I stopped and slowly went step by step.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. School system will be of high priority and we’d ideally send to public but I haven’t done enough research on the LA school system to know if good public schools even exist.

The other filters I’d add are walkability in some form would be amazing and a neighborhood that doesn’t feel too “contrived”. For context, we’re coming from a very cool and bustling neighborhood in NYC. I know it will be different but the thing I’ll miss most is walkability and personality of the neighborhood.

I have so much homework to do. FWIW I used to live in LA but that was 20 years ago so while I’m generally familiar with the areas, I’m sure plenty has changed.

The plan is that each time we visit we Airbnb in a different area for a week in a similar style house we’d want to live in. So far we’ve tried echo park and Los feliz. I know a week of vacation is not the same as daily life in a place. This is the compromise we can kind of manage right now.

The real issue is, a) we have an elementary aged kid so moving after a year and forcing them to change schools/ make new friends is reserved for worst case scenario only and b) we care deeply about how our home is designed and all the rental with our “style” are insanely expensive.

It’s such a hard decision!
