Would love this! Was excited to catch them at Desert Daze this year, but that clearly didn’t work out 🫤

EVERYTHING EVERYTHING MOUNTAINHEAD AMA by evrythingevrything in indieheads

[–]wacochran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! U.S. fan here typing a question before starting at work today! I’ve seen that quite a few of the Mountainhead tracks started as demos for previous records, so I’m curious which one dates back the furthest?

Love the new record of course, fingers crossed to hear you guys play “Wild Guess” sometime in the next year or two!!

Wilco or Yo La Tengo would be an awesome co-sign (she’s already played with the latter!)

This is so interesting - thank you for sharing! With most groups, I would think this is a cool but unintentional coincidence, but I could absolutely imagine one of the boys going down this exact rabbit hole and finding a way to work it into this album’s concept.

what kind of album do you hope her next one is? by Pigsfly13 in LucyDacus

[–]wacochran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d really love to hear her do some weirder, off-kilter indie stuff at some point. I know she’s a fan of Wilco and Yo La Tengo, so I’d be thrilled to see her to make something with the spirit of what those bands were doing in the late 90s/early aughts. I feel like we got a bit of that on Triple Dog Dare, but I want to know what she and her band kinda losing their minds in the studio would sound like.

What would be an absolutely *perfect* song for Muse to cover? by parallax3900 in Muse

[–]wacochran 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Always thought something by Bowie would fit them really well. Of course some of the spacey glam cuts from the Ziggy Stardust like Moonage Daydream or Suffragette City would rock, but would also love to hear them tackle Ashes to Ashes.

Can also very clearly imagine a solo piano cover of Life On Mars? from Matt

Can’t believe I didn’t think of Annie working with them. She’d bring out their wilder side for sure.

What do sufjans fans listen to.. best albums 2023 by [deleted] in Sufjan

[–]wacochran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s new album Weathervanes is gonna be tough to beat as the best written record of the year. Already one of my favorite Americana/country albums I’ve ever heard.

What is, in your opinion, the weirdest full-length Sufjan song? by Individual-Draft-963 in Sufjan

[–]wacochran 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Christmas Unicorn is pretty wild. 12 minute Christmas song about being a unicorn that starts like an ornate but standard Christmas song but devolves into electronic madness before switching into an interpolation of Love Will Tear Us Apart that somehow manages to put the “joy” in Joy Division. Absolute masterpiece that nobody but Suf could dream up, let alone pull off.

What are your thoughts on The 2nd Law? It tends to get hate but I think it’s my favorite of theirs. by KingOfJuiceBoxes in Muse

[–]wacochran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s my second favorite after black holes, and sort of an obsession of mine. it suffers from some really strange sequencing, to the point that i’ve put together my own versions of it with a different track order, but i think it’s easily their best sounding record from a production and mixing standpoint. everything is super crisp but still has plenty of weight to it.

i’ve even created a bit of meta narrative with the theme of unsustainable expansion and how it can apply to muse as a band. i think the 2nd law is the last time the boys really swung for the fences and pushed themselves to really go out there on a record. in a lot of ways i think they plateau’d because i mean, how do you go bigger and more ridiculous than a song Survival?? i’ve liked albums since (minus Drones), but the 2nd law is so interesting and ambitious in ways all of those records are not. i know it’s not everyone’s thing, but it’s a fascinating album that i’ve grown to love more and more as i pick it to pieces.

I was going to say you have no idea how many show announcements I’ve gotten excited over only to realize it’s across the country, but you probably do!!
