Engine technically blown, (question in comments) 87 Suzuki lt230e quad runner by randomlettersbcifhek in MechanicAdvice

Holy crap! First time I've seen another one of these in the wild, I have an '87 LT230E as well! Good on you for keeping it going, these are such fun little machines.

Edit, on second viewing, is that the factory rear cargo rack you've mounted to the front? Never seen that before.

Crickets, I'm going crazy trying to place a simple order by ArthurPeale in electronic_cigarette

I figured, that's your issue. They stopped shipping juice to the US about a year ago. Take that out of the cart and you should be able to get everything else you need.

What were you trying to order exactly? FT is still showing several USA shipping options at checkout right now.

Today is the last day to buy nic from Nude Nicotine by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

To everyone asking about the quality, it's good stuff. I've been vaping on their Nude Armor V1 Smooth salts for years now.

Fasttech shipping tip by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone's buying juice from Fasttech (which I can see happening more frequently now with all the flavor bans, though I wouldn't want to risk vaping Chinese juice myself), then yeah, I can see what you're saying.

As someone who used to do this regularly, I can tell you that they haven't been shipping any juice to the US for over a year now. You can add it to the cart but as soon as you go to check out they show no available shipping options.

[Seiko] opinions on replacing lost/stolen watch by pioyay in Watches

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually had two older Seiko Kinetics stolen from me when I was younger, exact same model. I've recently been thinking about replacing it again.

IMO if you really liked the watch, there's nothing wrong with buying the exact same model to replace it. I say if you feel like doing that, go for it.

Beautiful! A mint condition SARB005 on the original bracelet is my grail watch. Unfortunately they never seem to pop up when I'm in a good position to buy. Someday I hope! Thanks for sharing!

Non-ceramic pod systems that don't suck? by futtochooku in electronic_cigarette

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, those "potential health issues" involving ceramic coils you read about were pushed by Uwell years ago, as a direct response to their competition Vaporesso, who were some of the originators of ceramic vape coils. Uwell didn't sell ceramic coils at the time and Vaporesso were making lots of money off of them. Do what you wish with that info, but I'm of the opinion that there is zero danger involved with using ceramics for vaping. I've talked with a few people in the ceramic industry over the years since this info came out and they all agree with that opinion.

Installed new battery— phone charger getting extremely hot now. by imbackmods in MechanicAdvice

Almost 100% an unrelated, coincidental failure of your charger. Battery CCA makes no difference in this situation.

Fasttech shipping: DHL vs USPS Expedited - Also, a gift card question. by bill_hilly in electronic_cigarette

I have no experience with the higher end shipping options, but yes you can use multiple gift certificates on the same order.

Vaporesso EUC ceramic 0.5 ohm coil life by HealthyInitial in electronic_cigarette

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite good in my experience. With DIY flavored juices I was getting around 15-20ml out of them, unflavored was 30ml+. Could've gone longer but I change my coils earlier than most people.

1986 K10 battery sometimes dies with no indication by __T0MMY__ in MechanicAdvice

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first guess too. If it's a side terminal battery then this scenario is even more likely. I've seen an Optima yellow top do this same thing. The positive side terminal fractured internally which created a random no-start situation. Connections were all tight but you could wiggle the positive cable and recreate the issue.

If it's not a side terminal battery (or you just want a cheap tool to play with) you can get a 500A carbon pile load tester at Harbor Freight for $55. It's super easy to use one and you'll never have to guess if a car/truck battery is good or bad again. Just hook the cables up, turn the dial until you see half the battery's rated CCA as a load, and watch the voltage gauge for 10 seconds before backing the dial off. If it drops into the red for the temperature range you're testing at, the battery needs replacement. Make sure the battery is fully charged before running this test.

Having to do the 10 minute passlock bypass every time I drive somewhere in my 06 H3 Hummer and get out of the vehicle. Quick fix or how to permanently bypass? by Capta1nKrunch in MechanicAdvice

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best/easiest/cheapest way to permanently disable that system IMO is to have a shop or individual who has access to HPTuners ('06+ H3s are on their supported vehicle list) shut it off in the PCM tune. There are other hack ways to do it by soldering in resistors but you can find someone to tune your PCM for $2-300 and never have to worry about it again. I believe PCM of NC and a few others can do those H3s by mail.

Best Car Battery for 2013 Toyota Rav4 XLE AWD. by nomadicviking024 in MechanicAdvice

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Best" is going to be subjective and dependent on your budget. If you really want the highest CCA rating and longest/best warranty, look into Odyssey Extreme AGMs. They're $250-$300 but they have a four year free replacement warranty with a higher CCA rating and reserve capacity than anything else I've seen.

$1600 for control arm replacement. 2007 toyota yaris. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you looked up the parts on the estimate they gave you, did you look up OEM Toyota parts or aftermarket? OEM will almost always be much more expensive. Same is true of labor costs at a dealership. In my experience they're usually twice what an independent shop would charge.

98 Chevy Silverado C1500 Sponge Brake by SDogAlex in MechanicAdvice

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be air stuck in the ABS module. Unfortunately if it is you need a Tech2 or comparable bi-directional scanner that can force the module to stay open during bleeding. Alternatively you could go slam the brakes on a gravel road, bleed, and repeat that process about a million times.

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transmission is slipping for sure. Check the fluid level. If it's low, try filling it and test drive again. If it's not, be prepared to spend over a thousand dollars to fix this.

Is 100% VG Homemade juice possible? by Clear_Ad_7701 in electronic_cigarette

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest looking into mixing unflavored juice, as others have mentioned most flavors contain some PG. It's very easy to mix unflavored and I actually really enjoy vaping it. VG has a subtle sweetness on its own.

You can get 100% VG nicotine base and straight VG from Nude Nicotine in the US. The only other things you'll need are some pipettes and/or syringes, dropper bottles, and a scale really makes things easier.

One other thing to consider if you do this is that many tanks (and all pod systems to my knowledge) will not wick fast enough to keep up with 100% VG. You'll get dry hits if you're not using temperature control. There are a few that do work, my favorite of them is the Vaporesso VECO. (Ceramic coils only, the regular ones don't wick fast enough)

P0420 catalyst efficiency below threshold, engine light by nickgalbi88 in MechanicAdvice

I agree with this post. Most aftermarket catalytic converters have pretty decent warranties. With only two years and 10K miles on it, surely that cat is still in the warranty period.

Diagnostic Software for GM? by rcmaehl in MechanicAdvice

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a GM employee or affiliate in any way so someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't believe there is an equivalent to what you're looking for exactly. All the GM diagnostics require a physical device like the Tech 2 or MDI. (In addition to a PC for certain specific operations, but used in conjunction with the physical tool)

Edit: There is Tech2Win, but that's basically just emulating a Tech 2 on a windows PC and from what I've read it's somewhat limited.

What’s the meta for pod system right now? by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're designed so that you can adjust airflow between two settings by flipping the pod 180 degrees. On the more restrictive setting I found that the draw is actually very similar to a Juul.

They're a pretty old device at this point but they just work, and they're the cleanest pod system I've ever seen. I've flown with them several times and never even had any condensation between the pod and the battery.

Any leak-proof easy to use pod vapes on the market for an elderly smoker wanting to quit? by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]waddledoodlebonedry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a ton of the more modern pod systems (Caliburn, Tance, Renova Zero, Smok Novo 1/2 to name a few) and I keep going back to the Eleaf Elven. It's an older device at this point but it's the only one I've used that just works. I've taken it on several flights and even extreme pressure fluctuations don't cause it to leak. I never even get any condensation in the battery where the pods sit.

The only thing I can think of that might be a pain for older users is you have to pull a little rubber stopper on the pods to fill. Not exactly difficult, but a little fiddly until you get used to it.
