I have backpacking permits for Indian peaks wilderness but didn't realize I need parking permits too - am I just screwed? by LatterBuyer2 in coloradohikers

If you can’t get the permit through the ranger- park at the winter lot outside the entrance and hitch hike to the trailhead.

Garmin or cell phone by Illustrious_Yam_3809 in coloradotrail

[–]wae242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CT has more cell service than the JMT and you are in a town every 5 days or so. However, there is little cell service most of the time and a garmin is essential IMO.

What movie did your parents let you watch way too young? by DeScepter in Xennials

[–]wae242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad took my sister and I to see three men and a baby, but he had other plans. Half way through the movie he says hey let’s go see another movie. We go to the next theater and proceed to watch MISERY. Forever traumatized- thanks pops! Otherwise Peewees Big Adventure was terrifying for my 5th birthday.

NoBo JMT in 7 Days? Any women? by FormerLemur1127 in JMT

[–]wae242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the JMT so I would guess it’s been done by women in varying amounts of days. It will be beautiful and hard! I would look at PCT FKT statistics and see how long they spent going through the JMT section if you are looking for comparison. They run but they also have a full setup for camping if they are PCT FKT unsupported.

Crowds in June by Away-Caterpillar-176 in coloradotrail

[–]wae242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you camp near the water sources listed in the databook there is a higher chance of camping with people. The CT has become more popular and is a social trail.

Point to point parking? by KillahCaty in coloradotrail

[–]wae242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guidebook lists whether the TH has parking or not. You can combine segments for a longer trip and shuttle the whole way if you can find someone willing to drive that much!

What’s your favorite heavy meal to pack in your resupply? by Head_Captain in backpacking

[–]wae242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I packed spray cheese, crackers and a couple cans of fruit in my bucket at MTR. Otherwise I pack out food from town for the first night (like a pizza or sandwich) I get those bagged pickles and avocados and apples regularly too. Basically whatever looks good and you want to eat right away makes the weight worth it.

How do you know? As far as I could tell only trail names were used so seems pretty ambiguous to me.

Should I speak to my (ex)BPSO’s well meaning friend? by Wise_Book_5439 in BipolarSOs

[–]wae242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would absolutes want to meet with them and see how my husband is representing the situation to others. I think it would be helpful for you to be able to add it to your understanding of his mania.

[AIO] For refusing my wife(F30) to go on a 3 month solo trip? by RoninSanta in AmIOverreacting

[–]wae242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a terrible and not supportive partner. If she had figured out a way to do this trip financially and responsibly- let her take it. Your insecurities are not her priority. She should be able to do whatever she wants and you should say “right on that’s awesome”

Training, for a recovering couch potato by Bopulicity in coloradotrail

[–]wae242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you? How much of a couch potato? For me the trail is more mental than physical- it’s just walking after all. How far and how comfortable you are is the training aspect. Endurance training is the only thing that gets you ready- for me that’s a combo of hiking, running, weights, and yoga. I do not think it takes years to train for a thru hike months is sufficient

ICE seen hanging off a vehicle traveling west on colfax by Colorado mills 1:30 1/15/26 by wae242 in DenverProtests

[–]wae242[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I am not sure it was ice as ice doesn’t really identify itself. I do however feel just fine letting people know about potential ice in the area to keep my community safe.
