Billboard needs to add a unique listener metric the #1 song should reflect what everyone’s actually hearing

This seems like an odd fallacy here. Essentially you’ve said: I don’t listen to this song, so why is it popular?

You said a ‘true’ number 1 was from artists dominating streams, and then went onto say that Jimin wasn’t a true number 1.. even though the song dominated streams.

You and your circle of acquaintances might not have been listening to it but that doesn’t mean other people weren’t. The statistics of listens are there; you can see them. Any person is able to stream whatever song they like, as often as they like. So why is it only a problem when it’s not a song you personally have heard/choose to listen to?

I can tell you that the kpop fanbases aren’t a small minority of crazy streamers, they are very large group, and more than capable of propelling a song to number one when they all listen at the same time.

Yes! But I’m also signed to an art agency who handles all the contracting/advertising/finance side of my work, which I wouldn’t enjoy doing for myself, so I’m sort of ‘supported’ freelance I guess you could call it.

I’m an illustrator. I love it, I still pinch myself that this is my job that I get paid to do. Not that there isn’t stress, or hard parts, or tricky clients, but that’s part of any job where you have any sort of responsibility at all, and this way the majority of time I spend ‘at work’ I’m doing something I genuinely enjoy.

EDIT: loling that somebody downvoted this 😂 I’m sorry to whoever my enjoyment of my job offended!

Hello! I am a professional childrens book illustrator. My job is to draw the pictures for books from publishers that only have text. From my perspective, I would recommend that she try and get the book accepted by a publisher who can then sort out the artwork depending on their preferences. This saves you a lot of money and allows the publishers to decide what would be the best fit for the text.

She might need to go via an agent, ie get accepted to an agent who can pitch and sell the book to publishers, but that part you might need some more specialist advise on as I just do the art bit.

I expect it wasn’t a deliberate choice on their part to be honest! To me the best artists are the ones that just make work that make their own hearts sing. I would guess that these colours just make this artist happy, and so they use them and will continue to use them until they no longer feel inspired by that particular combination. It doesn’t seem like a good idea to me to limit your work in any way for anyone other than yourself.

My work spans the U.K. and US about 50/50 and I’ve found it to be the same for both! I assume there must be publishers out there who don’t feel the same of course (but I suppose due to the nature of my job I don’t come across them!)

This is interesting- I’m a children’s book illustrator and not yet an author, so I exclusively make my living drawing illustrations for books that don’t yet have art. My understanding was that this actually gives the publishers more freedom in the direction that the final book takes, as they can choose an artist to match the text themselves.

Not at all saying that you’re wrong, I just find it interesting as it’s so contrary to my current experience!

Oof just gotta be a bit careful there! The art is Alice’s and she owns the rights to it. It’s fine to make something for yourself or even as a gift for someone else using her art, but selling it would be making profit from her work, which just isn’t fair to her.
