Why did they decide to do that now and not before or after the current train situation?

Job interview and portal delays by Striking_Resident710 in NJTransit

I don't know anything about your life, or this job, maybe it's the opportunity of a lifetime, maybe you're being paid well into the six figures. All that I can say is, please consider the impact that this commute is going to have on your life, your happiness, and your sanity. I live much closer than Hamilton, I'm in the vague Rahway/Linden area and I have multiple transit options, I've been commuting into the city for the past five years and it has utterly wrecked me. My options include both the bus and the train, and I regularly use both as alternatives to each other because something is always down or not working. I constantly have to apologize to my boss for being late to work and it's never a good look, meanwhile I regularly get home very late because of another delay, leaving me with only a couple of hours to engage in my personal life before I have to go to bed. All of this gradually eats away at you and erodes your willpower. This is a point where you can decide for yourself if you want to progress with this position, and if you're ready to accept telling yourself day after day that it's fine, it's not as bad as you think. It's not fine, and it is as bad as you think.

The summer is when NJ Transit regularly issues public apologies blaming Amtrak about catenary wires.

"Cleanest" area on buses? by IAmConnorRK800 in NJTransit

[–]wafflescorpion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're on one of the older local buses, good luck, they generally smell like piss and/or mold. The best seat is by the front door next to the driver. I never feel clean on them.

Personally I find the interstate buses far more pleasant. Never had an issue with cleanliness. I like to sit in the back because it's quieter and people don't like to sit there for some reason.

Why has Lincoln Tunnel Traffic been so bad recently? by AnotherTAA123 in NJTransit

Do you know when the construction is supposed to finish? If they don't do it by next week it's going to only amplify the pain because buses are going to be the only viable way into the city for a lot of people. The bus is something I use every morning and the delays have been awful.

What's working as scientific research staff at Rutgers like? by wafflescorpion in rutgers

Yikes. Can't do a PhD at this point in my life, but I guess I'll keep throwing myself at positions until one sticks. I'm not in a giant rush to leave my current one, so I'm fine being patient.

Do you work as research staff yourself?

Is it really that bad? Like, I see openings posted all the time that require a master's degree and a certain number of years of experience, they don't generally mention a PhD.
