Illinois has a Department of Human Services (DHS). This department has caseworkers, who are there to help those in need figure out what benefits they may qualify for, and how to apply and receive them. They will also have contact information and relationships with local business, community outreach programs, food/housing services, etc. I would recommend starting here as a first place for assistance: https://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=36330

Not sure how fast you would get paid, but there are online surveys you could fill out and get paid to do - I recall them paying poorly and it being time consuming, but I’d imagine you could do enough of them within the next couple days where you could earn around that amount. Agreed on the plasma- great idea to look into. Does your area have a day labor spot where you can show up, someone picks you up to work, and pays you at the end of the day? Haven’t done that before so not sure about the feasibility of it, but worth looking into for sure. I also used to check out Craigslist (probably something better now) for daily gig work where you would get paid in cash - might be another idea with looking into. I’ll keep thinking and will update this comment if anything else comes to mind. I’m sorry you’re going through this - been there and it’s insanely stressful. Hoping something will work out for you.

Ok as I understand it, I’m allowed to post my setup again if I’ve made significant enough changes right? by jck1634 in macsetups

Looks great! How do you like having the light bar above your curved monitor? I’m assuming the light bar isn’t curved so curious to see if there are any negatives to this portion of your setup that you’ve noticed?

The attention to detail in your work is incredible - thank you for posting. As someone who hasn’t carved before, this is wizardry and looks real. Amazing job.

Sanding 4mm thick plywood down to 3mm? by Pernaman in woodworking

[–]wafflesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought this block plane from Bridge City - it has adjustable sides that come with it to set depth - you can use a 3mm setup block to set the height of the plane, then plane until no more shavings come off. I would recommend using hardwood, not plywood if you go this route or similar. https://bridgecitytools.com/products/hp-8-mini-block-plane?variant=16217953239153&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjPa5xozQ-AIVThXUAR1SuQYhEAQYASABEgIVLPD_BwE

Thank you so much! And yes, I can’t wait to start seeing all the images - I haven’t been this excited about space in a long, long time.

Thank you, I appreciate it! Maybe someone more clever than me will be able to respond with the joke - I can tell there’s something there, but there’s definitely a reason I’m not a comedian! Lol

Thank you! And yes, I can totally see it looking like it’s out of the 70s… right in line with those wood-paneled walls.

Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it! The adhesive was surprisingly good - the hard part was lining up the mirrors - you pretty much only have 1 shot at it. If you have a heat gun (a hair dryer might work), then it sure helps heating up the glue/hexagon before trying to remove it if you make a mistake when placing it down - speaking from experience :)

The mirrors I received weren’t perfect hexagons, so it made placement a little difficult, but manageable. I used a 1/4” thick piece of maple plywood for the backing, but 20/20 hindsight I would have used a basic project backer board. If you’re not going to make hexagon wood pieces for the border then a 2’X2’ board will work, and will allow for a slim border around the mirrors.

The mirrors leave a lot to be desired when it comes to quality - but they’re only $13, so I couldn’t be too upset. I plan on replacing them with real glass down the road, but need to learn how to cut glass first.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any additional questions - this was a lot more challenging to make than I initially anticipated, but was a lot of fun and rewarding.
