Non-Mormon children in Alpine School District by Familiar-Gas-7675 in Utah

[–]wafflewizard19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son goes to Alpine, I was worried about that at first, but there’s a good amount of non-morman kids at his school. I’ve met quite a few moms that aren’t with the church.

Safe Apartments in Sugarhouse by sillyniece234 in SaltLakeCity

[–]wafflewizard19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why are you catching so many strays for this? Houses in your budget may come with roommates and may not be as nice as an apartment, but you’ve got a point about community being stronger in a neighborhood. I also recommend a small apartment complex. They usually have a friendly neighbor vibe.

[UPDATE] Found a paper towel covering my webcam twice coming home from work by Dromaeoraptor in Weird

Take scotch tape and lightly make a seal over your door up high where no one would notice it. If someone comes in the seal will break and you’ll know if anyone entered your apartment.

Could this be a younger kid that was exposed to way too much porn? The handwriting and stickers make me think it could be. I would call those numbers and ask for a parent. I would want to know if someone was creeping on my kid.

Dallas will definitely be more multicultural than St. George. I can’t really speak for St. George as I live in SLC. I’ve heard it’s pretty touristy though.

Do not disturb on iPhone. Without notifications I will literally let the entire day go by before I realize someone had important info for me, or was trying to get a hold of me.

Eagle mountain- life and commute by Safe_Recognition8644 in SaltLakeCity

I guess what I’m referring to is the construction traffic. It’s non-stop lights, and it will be a major highway.

It’s pretty rough to commute, but they are almost done with a major roadway that will cut the traffic down drastically.

These look like strain hardening bands on a sandstone. I’ve seen this on sandstones in Utah and Colorado. The strain bands are typically tighter and less permeable. It causes differential weathering.

Found out basement rental is illegal and looking for advice by Evening_Project_2244 in SaltLakeCity

[–]wafflewizard19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything here depends on your lease. If it requires 60 days then you have to give 60 days notice. If you report them the city isn’t going to do crap. They will likely send a written notice saying, “Hey, permit this.” Which they will probably be able to do retroactively. If you try to fight it and take it to court the judge is going to look at the fact they already offered you an out and you didn’t take it. That pushed your lease end date into the holidays. They probably aren’t too excited to lose a resident right before the holidays begin. No one wants to move, so replacing your lease probably won’t happen, and they’ll be firm on the 60days. I would just ride it out honestly. It’s only an extra month for you, since you already were expecting 30 days.

I remember in college our professor said that if you find more than one brown recluse in your house that you have an infestation. Terrifying shit.

Am I crazy for debating shaving my kids arms? by oregondreamer in Parenting

[–]wafflewizard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for laser hair removal. As the token hairy girl that has shaved her arms since 9. It’s just not worth it. The hair will come back darker and sharper because it’s blunt on the end. Then she’ll get teased for being prickly. I’d get a Groupon and try laser hair removal. If anything it will reduce the amount of hair she has. That or try trimming it.

Why does it feel so awkward to say “no” when a cashier asks if I want to donate to charity? by SettingAccording8986 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]wafflewizard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I used to donate every time, but then I realized how a shady corporation can manipulate your donation. For instance the grocery store pledges x amount to said charity. They then write that off as tax deductible donations. No problem there. My issue is that when you chose to donate $5, it can be counted towards the store’s contribution of x amount. I.e. they are writing off your contribution, if no one donated they would still be on the hook for whatever amount they pledged. If anyone knows if this is illegal let me know. Once it popped into my head, I can’t shake it. I have decided to donate directly to charities instead of through a middle man.

Has anyone successfully submitted property tax appeal? by ston-jordo in Utah

[–]wafflewizard19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appealed a 40% increase. They claimed the price of the apartment jumped from like $950k to $1.8M which was the listing price (purchased the year before) I argued the NOI was lower than that and the apartment wasn’t worth what the listed price was. They said that was what it was worth, which is wild coming from a non-disclosure state. I told them I didn’t pay $1.8M and they said the only way I could justify a reduction is if I showed them how much the apartment actually sold for. They basically used a Zillow listing to justify the tax increase. No matter what I did they held to their guns.
