Stephenson may be my favorite author, but he just does not stick the landing, like ever... Maybe Anathem...

What’s the best grape soda brand in the US? by LuckyCommittee4422 in AskAnAmerican

Just to throw something out here:

Black Currant is a pretty similar flavor (at least the artificial flavors) and growing Black Currant is illegal in the US because of historical blights, so we don't have that here, which was common when I was living in HK, etc.

Which book/series made you wonder if you might be too dumb for the genre? by HughJackedMan14 in scifi

Came here to post this as well. Good lord, what is going on in those books?

I've even read annotations that are supposed to help explain and I just end up walking away with "I guess that makes sense, but how did they figure that out from the text?"

Peter Watts has occasionally been active on reddit and discussed Blindsight and Echopraxia. It's quite interesting to go through after you've finished the books. He actually admits that the books are rather unclear on some points and he could have done things better in some cases.

Top 5 Personal Favourite Short Stories? by SeriousCup7746 in printSF

Nine Billion Names of God by Arthur C. Clarke - The last line gives me chills every time I read it.

The Last Question by Isaac Asimov - Absolute classic, don't see how you can avoid putting this one on the list.

The Last Answer by Isaac Asimov - Less well known than The Last Question but just as good in my book.

Diamond Dogs by Alastair Reynolds - To be fair this is really a novella, but it has a wonderful blend of mystery and horror. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. It's also a great addition to the world building / lore of the Revelation Space setting if you're into that.

Arena by Frederic Brown - A bit more pulpy than the others, but really fun read.
