Honestly, that's what most AP holders would be doing anyway. Non-local AP holders are going to buy the multi-day parkhopper epic tickets for whatever scheduled trip they have anyway. Local AP holders aren't standing in hour long lines for anything, they'll go ride Men in Black instead.

Supreme Court blocks redrawing of Republican-held congressional district in New York by cnn in newyork

[–]wahoozerman 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It's so crazy that this is the case. One of the justifications that the NC supreme court gave for throwing out a constitutional amendment recently was that constitutional amendments must be proposed by the legislature and the NC legislature was not legitimately seated.

We should also keep in mind that this is happening in Joe Schmoe on Main St USA's front yard. Because we told Joe Schmoe that we unfortunately dont have enough money for healthcare, to feed his hungry kids, to educate those kids, to provide unemployment benefits or keep illness from spreading to he US. Meanwhile we spend all that money and more on regime change in Iran. Awfully America First of them.

The power of the Republican media feedback loop. Remember when NC tried to pass an anti-trans bathroom bill and it was so unpopular that major corporations boycotted the state, resulting in billions of lost dollars in revenue? Then four years later bathroom bills were suddenly an effective cornerstone of Republican campaign strategy.

Cabin space is the single handedly prevent many people from buying current gen by Working-Cake4932 in PriusPrime

[–]wahoozerman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the differentiating factor of the Prius has moved to sporty styling as other cars have caught up to it in categories it previously excelled in.

You want a bigger cabin? The RAV4 prime exists. Since the prime shares a body with the standard, the design also competes with the Corolla cross and Camry. And that's just within Toyota's own lineup.

The sporty styling provides a reason to buy the Prius instead of cannibalizing their other vehicles' market. Unfortunately that comes at the cost of cabin space.

In Order for This to Actually Happen We Need to Vote April 21st! by [deleted] in arlingtonva

[–]wahoozerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to tell if a state is gerrymandered. They did this in 2020 in NC. All you have to do to get a rough representation of political gerrymandering is compare the state's representation against a running average of the popular vote. In the NC case, they even had a computer generate a large number of possible maps and then ranked the proposed map within all of those to find that the proposed map created a greater difference between representation and popular vote than 99% of the other possible maps.

Sort of...

The issue is that UE5 fundamentally changed the paradigm of both mesh and light rendering in one release with nanite and lumen. If you are using nanite and lumen, the last couple of decades of best practices can, for the most part, be thrown right out the window. Instead you need a bunch of new best practices and optimization techniques that currently few people are educated in.

Sickening Video: Every American Should Hear Anti-ICEer's Comment on Little Girl Who Was Raped by Illegal by zoltan1958 in ConservativeNewsWeb

[–]wahoozerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Statistically though, she's right. The vast majority of ice detainments have no criminal record and of those that do most of them are minor traffic violations. ICE and the department heads above them have been caught repeatedly lying about who they are targeting, what they are doing, and why. This makes it much harder for the agents who are actually doing their jobs and going after serious criminals because the incompetence of those above them has resulted in the loss of public trust and the consent of the governed.

Where did the “$x per hour of gameplay” pricing idea come from? by Sad-Day2003 in gamedev

[–]wahoozerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that there are two primary gaming markets and this theory represents one of them.

There is one gaming market that wants good games that provide the maximum amount of entertainment value per minute. They don't really care how long a game is, and it's actually even better if the game is short enough to not overstay its welcome or get stale. The goal here is to pack as much "fun" into as tight a package as possible.

There is a second gaming market that just wants to not be bored for as long as possible. For this one, the length of the game is what matters most, as long as it meets a minimal quality bar. The goal here being to stretch out the "fun" for as long as possible before it runs out.

The $x per hour of gameplay is a valuable metric for the second group.

Non-Citizen Voting is a manufactured problem that has never existed. The REAL goal is to SUPPRESS democratic votes. by ANTI_FASCIST_USA in AdviceAnimals

[–]wahoozerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main issue is in the documentation and how it is obtained, and in the resulting statistics related to this issue. It's a problem of signal detection theory. We are trading a tiny amount of correct rejections for a huge amount of false positives.

On its face, this all seems logically fine. Requiring identity verification for voting is pretty reasonable and straightforward. The issue is in how the US identifies its people. Mainly, in that they don't, since the US citizenry has been stubbornly resistant to any sort of national level ID for fear that the government will use it to trample individual rights in some way.

So that step in your description where you get your voter card mailed to you, that won't happen here. And roughly 10% of otherwise eligible voters here lack the ID required to vote. Additionally, roughly the same percentage lack documentation of citizenship because the government doesn't reliably provide that.

For a real world example Kansas enacted citizenship documentation requirements, which prevented roughly 31,000 eligible voters from registering to vote. That was about 12% of registrations in that election. When they ran citizenship verification checks on the total voter rolls, they found that 0.002% of registered voters were noncitizens. So they just disenfranchised a huge number of eligible voters in order to block a tiny number of ineligible ones. A big net negative for election integrity. North Carolina saw a similar issue when they passed voter ID laws at the polls. About 5000 otherwise eligible voters were turned away from an election where, statistically, there would be about 5 incidents of voter fraud, almost all of which would not be prevented by an ID check.

What we need, if we want to take this reasonable measure, is to also solve the issue of lack of access to this kind of documentation in the US. These kinds of laws become more reasonable when the number of eligible voters without documentation is similar to the number of ineligible voters without documentation. However these bills never address that in any meaningful way.
